Tooth Extraction on a Typodont This video is meant to illustrate some principles associated with a tooth extraction & is not meant to be medical/dental advice. Please consult with your local dentist for any tooth related issues.
It's all good man, I have dental anxiety just make sure you talk with your dentist beforehand. Really eases the rest of your trip to the dentist. And! It'll make you fully reassured that EVERYTHING gets done. My dentist was about to skip my cavity and filling and I'm like we're booked for another 30 minutes😑
I've had 3 teeth pulled, and it was by FAR the easiest dental procedure I've ever had. They numb your entire mouth, you literally feel none of it, and they usually give you headphones. Not to mention that you get sedated to the point that you literally couldn't care less what they're doing. (You can also request to be put under if you need to.)
Yeah and spend $2000-3000 for a surgical extraction. (Oh australia) Or spend about $400 instead. Yeah for GA, there’s a very real chance of going code blue (Ie, medical emergency) as well. So no, I’d advise you save your money and man up for the hr. And save yourself $1000+ in the meanwhile
if y'all have a tooth extraction soon, i'm here to tell you that you shouldn't even worry. the injection, if that's what you're scared of, is just a little pinch and they keep the needle out of sight. plus, most of the time, they use numbing cream on the area even before that. if you're scared of the actual extraction, then know this. there. is. no. pain. just pressure. it might be a little startling, but there's no pain, and it's very much bearable. I also suggest you talk to your oral surgeon during the process, it can save you from feeling any pain due to not enough anesthetic. take care, and good luck with your extraction!
There’s some teeth that are easy to get pulled out - I’ve had those. No pain, hardly any pressure. Tooth comes out quick and easy. BUT Then there’s those that are SO hard to take out- including those that are fused to the bone (mandible). I’ve had those too, unfortunately. It’s painful, although it’s not a sharp pain- it’s more dull with extreme pressure. I had to get several anesthetic injections as the procure took forever. Because of my nerves I felt like it still hurt , but then there’s a limit of how much anesthesia they can use on you. I see where you’re coming from , it can be a smooth easy process, but it can also be a living nightmare
Just got my wisdom teeth extracted and the pain is unbearable. But it makes sense why there’s so much pain. Mine were impacted and not erupted at all. It’s such an art, I have mad respect for dentists!
@@JoeBlow-tv7wm I wasn’t asleep, but of course no pain during the surgery and 3-4 hours later. But after that was hellish. It peaked at day 3-4; then it got infected, which is the worst pain I’ve experienced in my life. I am prone to infections because of other medication I take for my health - and I tried to keep it clean, but alas. It wasn’t the socket itself that was infected - but it started at my premolar and infected my buccal and sun mandibular region. Honestly went to hell and back :( ☠️
I had all wisdom teeth removed. Dentist just gave me a piece of cotton to bite on afterwards and send me on my way. No sutures or grafts. Healed just fine.
yep same here. I always see videos of people being put under general anaesthesia and wonder if that's an American thing because that absolutely doesn't happen for the majority of people in the UK lol
@@Jade-fs9kh I am pretty sure it is an American thing. They try to inflate the medical bill as much as possible. They even make them inhale anesthetics for a simple tooth filling.
Most dentists won't graft or suture unless there is a high risk of excessive bleeding, surgical access incisions which need to be closed, or implants are preplanned and the bone needs to be augmented.
Just got back from the dentist about an hour ago and I was curious about what the hell they were doing the last five or ten minutes they were working on my teeth-
@@striker9032 it was great! didnt feel a thing, laughing gas calms you down and makes you not care at all, and i didn’t even notice when the teeth came out, just felt like they were putting their fingers in my mouth
Just had this done yesterday, and man what an experience. My root was lodged in there sideways and it took the dentist an hour to get it out, it doesn’t hurt but the pressure felt like mike Tyson was pulling on my mouf.
Same I had this experience a month ago. It took the dentist almost 2 hours to get my tooth out. He used the surgical bur and I was given anesthesia twice. I couldn't exactly feel the pain but the pressure was insane.
Thankfully i got through this...honestly what was i so scared of? it only took 5 mins and I was done Just 3 injections which didn't even hurt to bad and they pulled it out like it was nothing Thank you God
I had my tooth extracted. Bruhh i am just telling to those who are really scared that what will happen? How much pain will he suffer from during the procedure. But lemme tell u guys this procedure is supper fun. You just have to sit for an half hour or so and the dentist will do he's work. You will go from no pain trust me literally no pain 😅 . So just have confidence and think positive that everything will be all right and best of luck for you extraction. You are not only the one who is having the extraction. There are many people with you😊
@@Alluringspace ah well. my doctor injected me 5 anesthesia because of the pain i felt. it took an hour. my doctor also sung a song because I was so nervous. I endured the pain til the end coz I really wanted to finish it. I am now in peace. Don't be scared. If others can do, u can also do it.
I had my wisdom teeth pulled in Marine Corps boot camp, and I can tell you that this is exactly the opposite amount of care an attention it was done with. It was done with channel locks and a levering motion. I can still feel where it broke the bone of my upper jawline.
Just pointing out that they won’t use a drill unless they top of the tooth breaks off not giving them anything to grasp onto with the forceps. That tool they use to remove the gums from the tooth is called an elevator, it’s actually used to “elevate” the tooth, and or loosening it. They don’t generally have to use a surgical method if the tooth doesn’t break or show signs of surgical intervention. For anyone who is scared now don’t be scared please, it’s a quick process where they numb the tooth, loosen it a bit, and then use the forceps to gentle rock the tooth and pull it out. Every dentist has different methods but generally they won’t jump to using a drill this quickly.
it goes: 1. numbing cream applied to tooth. 1.5. temporarily move archwire (if needed). 2. syringe gets put in the gum ( it'll hurt bad for like, 2 seconds). 3. elevator goes in, loosens the gum around the tooth. 4. tweezers pull the tooth out (you wont feel anything because your gum is numbed [at most you'll just feel pressure]). 4.5. put archwire back in (if needed). 5. done. (gum will still be numb for 2~4 hours. you might get a slight toothache after the medicine goes away, but it wont be that bad).
@@dutchdragon443one of my teeth has a cavity that reached the pulp but they are letting me be put asleep whilst is ti extracted, if you are scared maybe ask for that too? But it should be okay either way ❤❤
👋 I’ve seen this comment before because I think some dental students are taught to use the term instrument in front of patients. An instrument is typically used to gather information and a tool is used to perform an action. In this video, I am using tools (periosteal elevator, forceps, curettes). If I was using a periodontal probe it would be considered an instrument. All the best, Sami
I had my first tooth removed from the back of my bottom right jaw today. I thought the needle was going to be the worst of it…. I was wrong. I legitimately thought the dentist was going to break my jaw. But the pain I was in was excruciating prior to removal.
@@Abdullah10948 honestly my pain was so intense I would of taken any procedure to help with pain. It was a bit uncomfortable when they take the tooth out because of the pressure you feel. But the dentist was so calming and really great about the whole process. I promise you it will be ok 😊
Do clarify that this is a surgical extraction performed by an oral surgeon. Under a general extraction performed by a general dentist, most of the time, the use of a fast handpiece drill will not be used. The said 'tools' called luxators/elevators are solely used to rock the tooth and then followed by forceps to extract the tooth. The dentist will then examine the socket for any bits of tooth still in the socket. Most of the time, the sharp bits of bone will be left as it will be healed.
General dentists who routinely perform extractions use surgical hand-pieces everyday. This is dependent upon a variety of factors but most importantly the anatomy of the tooth. . . A molar with divergent roots should be planned for sectioning prior to picking up that instrument.
I felt that in my nerve lmao. Ive had 4 adult teeth extracted and trust me yall- as long as they do the numbing shots right you're not gonna feel anything but a tiny bit of pressure.
Nah... had a tooth removed the other day.... it went like this. Needle, numbness, plies, out. Seriously I was asking about each and every step as he proceeded, and it's legit all that happened. My mouth hole still hurts by the way.
Same for me. They even took my tissue away before I left so I was just left with blood coming form the mouth like a zombie 😅 it didn’t hurt though and only took like 10 seconds (I was horrified when they gave me the tooth back in a bag though 😂) they injected my like 25 quizillion times before hand which was the bad part for me
About two weeks ago I had the exact same operation. It was a broken tooth with triple roots back in my upper mouth and when the procedure started I didn't know what was going on. I was hearing loud bangs in my head as if someone is using a hammer. Watching this video now I realize that it was the surgical bur. My dentist probably used a bur with edges. So when it was rotating it was cutting the tooth and causing hammer like noise in my brain. It took about half an hour to extract the tooth piece by piece. She placed some paste in the hole as shown in this video and then she stitched the gum. I did not feel anything, except the last needle which went very deep in my pallet to the root. The dentist was superb and did a fantastic job. After the anesthesia wore off, I didn't even use any pain killer. It is fully cured after 2 weeks.
When I went to the dentist when I was 11 they just took the pliers straight too my teeth. Had 6 teeth pulled when I was only supposed to go in for a cleaning. Worst day of my life.
I have read stories like yours. When some patients have Medicaid ( child/children) some dentist take Advantage of the insurance. By pulling to many teeth or putting silver crowns on kids teeth. Parents always need to over see all dental work.
Totally different in UK . After they remove the tooth in UK they don't clean the area afterwards. They just give you some cotton wool . No stitches . So mostly we get dry sockets and weeks later we find small pieces of bone or tooth left behind
Yeah this isn't common in the US either, they just have us bite down on some gauze and send us on our way. This is why people hate the dentist, they try to do things as cheaply as possible most of time.
The gauze actually helps promote the formation of a clot. Dry socket has to do with poor aftercare. Small fragments (bone spicules) can be common and are naturally pushed out by your body during the healing process. A quick Google search could tell you all of this.
Dr. yr accurate..It's nothing like having the work done at a professional setting with a knowledgeable Dr. and supporting staff. It's a tramatic experience having the removal but; bearable having a Dr. and staff that cares about the wellbeing of the patients..Great content!
I wish I could insert a gif rn 😭 my tooth is actually still growing in (hurts like a mf) and it might get removed sometime this year… this video RIGHT HERE OML 😭🤣🤣 idk if seeing this was good or bad but it sure was interesting.
My dentist definitely didn’t do that after he pulled one of my teeth out! He gauzed me up and said it’s not sown or anything so be careful what I eat. It took a week to seal up since I have an autoimmune disorder. I’ve visited more dentists in my area for the same thing and they never do anything besides sanitize the wound and put on gauze. The only time was when I had my wisdom teeth removed.
This did happen to me when I was 7 but, I fell asleep while waiting. I am so glad that I didn’t have to go through all of that. Thanks for showing me how lucky I am. ♥️
I had 4 teeth extracted at 14 years old. Wasn’t really scared, the dentist did a great job. Didn’t have to suture or nothing. Sure there was bleeding, but no pain or soreness from the extraction.
I was awake for this for the first time and it wasn’t that bad. Just be sure to tell your dentist if you feel pain so they can giving you more numbing medicine
I got my wisdom tooth removed last week. My dentist just numbed the area, pulled the tooth out with this plier looking thing and then placed a gauze. Mine went quick, thank goodness!
I’ve had a few teeth removed. The first time was just some baby teeth. The second and most recent was 2 adult teeth because my orthodontist wanted them removed because of how crowded they were
Hey there I'm getting my braces within a few days.. today my orthodontist put seperators and 4 of my premolars will be extracted next.. I'm scared as hell.. any advice please?😢
It is painful. Everyone saying it isn't is lying. I'm sure some dentists are easier than others, but it DOES hurt after the numbness wears off. I've had extractions that were brutal and I had one that didn't hurt at all. The painless one was performed by an oral surgeon.
I have a big question what happens if the tooth brakes and the dentist left one of the roots in and just covered it with bone graft? please I need a answer
doing this tomorrow i’m so nervous because there doing 2 of my teeth since i need more space in my mouth and they are giving me stiches after they finish or this? i think it’s this but they said it dissolves
Had my top wisdom removed and My dentist didnt sew the wound? Just put the cotton there? Is that right i thought for sure id get a stitch beld for like 2 days
😢😢my first extraction was really nice and went well, the second procedure I was left with a torn gum that took months and lots of antibiotics to heal...only to go for a check during my healing period with my tooth in hand😅and the new dentist said it should've not been removed. Filing was the best and only procedure needed😢
Just got my back upper tooth pulled the other day. I asked for the laughing gas and it only took about 15 minutes. I was sore but not much pain afterwards.
Doesnt hurt during the process too much pressure but feeling some type of pain and headache after just left the dentist 1hour ago am yet to see how it goes if the pain will become intense
Just had this done and the scariest part is for me they didnt wait for the numbing fully so I could feel EVERYTHING on the left side of my mouth I was secretly crying
