That means paying for other horses, the upkeep of them and the upkeep of the whole yard etc still. To be a millionaire in the horse world you have to start as a billionaire
What are you on about, the main money is not in the prize money at all, it's in the breeding , and to make money in breeding you need to win prize money
Cheers for this, been searching for "how do they handicap horses?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Peyarper Subjective Primacy - (just google it ) ? It is a great exclusive guide for discovering how to get a profitable betting system minus the normal expense. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my buddy got amazing results with it.
@@KumiKotara agreed. They just like to justify starting them too early. Sad to see horses at four and five years old when they're actually ninety percent grown, broke down already.
@@carolmorgan5614 I respect your opinion. I'm not sure that any breed at a year and a half is mentally or physically able to handle the stress of racing. That's why they are done racing by the time they're five or six. Too much too soon.
Appreciate video content! Excuse me for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you tried - Riddleagan Punting Profit Remedy (google it)? It is a smashing one off product for learning how to get rich on the horse racing minus the hard work. Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 at last got amazing results with it.
To give you some information, one of the main question for racing horsing is where will the go after they finish p, their are many options their is retirement, the breed, or they can go to programs which stop horses going to the slaughter house such as off the track, if you decide to sell your horse after the would most likely go into a different type of sport such as show jumping or dressage. Every owner and trainer try’s so hard to keep them out of the slaughter house but their are some people which unfortunately do it and the are shamed upon. P.S this comes from a horse owner in horse racing
our horse just got back to newmarket to continue the success he found here, his family is good and we got a new trainer, every like is a prayer that he wins thank you. this man clearly never heard of good jockeys like frankie dettori, jerry bailey and mike smith, just to name a few there are many more
@Karl Wilson what kind of argument is that supposed to be? For a good documentary you should cover positive as well as negative aspects of a topic and leaving out the abuse and danger of horseracing is simply very one sided. What has that to do with dogs? This is a completely different problem and doesn't justify cruelty with horses
Why they never talk about how abusive it is?? Cuz it's not abusive it's just horses running if you think this is abusive have you seen horse jumping??? Horses love running but they don't like jumping, and it makes the horses feel like there running in a pack, nothing wrong with that
@Karl Wilson where did you get that information from? From what I have seen and learned troughout my horse-back riding, I know racehorsesare pushed to their limits, with a lot of pressure and stress. If they break a leg, they go to the slaughter house. I think it is also the mentality that is disrespectful
(3:11) to all who say horse racing isn't about money it's about people who love horses and try to defend it by that statement. It's just absurd statement in my opinion. (6:40) He talks about horses like objects that make money.
James Girvan RaleighLink14 look her up and learn about the abuse and lack of care the goes on in the racing Industry. Also do you know why they take horses off the trace after a few years? IT’S BECAUSE THEY WANT TO BREED THE HORSE BEFORE IT LITERALY RUNS ITS LEGS OFF!!! It makes me sick to think that people can still support the Racing industry. And if horses don’t want to be forced to race then why do jockeys carry whips also why are you so many jockeys shock there horses out of the gate.
I know jockeys, some trainers and met a few owners. They all absolutely love their horses. Not because they give money, but because they just love horses. In America they are all drugged and unvaccinated, while in the UK there are strict rules about the caring of the horses. The whips in Europe do not hurt the horses, they are used as a “tap”. They are trained to know what that tapping and waving means. Just try find any picture of any race horse that looks unhealthy, unhappy or with scars because you won’t. The unhappiest they would get is in the stalls ready to start, and that is because of lack of experience. I hate people saying this is animal abusr because the people in the industry could not care more about them, and their main priority is for them to finish the race and get back, which is why sometimes they are pulled up mid-race if the jockey feels the horse is not ok or cannot finish. Some rules in racing include it, and also include unnecessary use of the whip (which is a fine and suspension for the jockey), dangerous use of the whip (if the whip is used very near another horses face or body) or exceeding limits of the horse (keep riding the horse and showing the whip when the horse is clearly not able to finish or is tired).
The greatest event in all sports was Secretariat and his performance in the Belmont Stakes. All of his records in the triple crown still stand. That’s greatness.
Where not gonna talk about about all the deaths in cross country? So many horses get killed and injured in cross country and nobody is talking about it
@James Carney there are way more diff races for thorough breds from the point of view of the horse and rider allowance claiming races takes races there are a lot of diff class moves below the maiden win etc too
I have very fond memories of the Galway Races, I used to go with my brother when we were young. I would watch him pick his horses with such care, then he would tell which horse to bet on. We would almost always win on one or two horses, then we would go to Lydons Restaurant for high tea.
The greatest sporting event I’ve ever seen was Secretariats performance in the Belmont Stakes. All his records in the triple crown still stand so I’ve never heard of Frankel but if he’s the greatest horse in history I’d love to get to know him. Lol
Everyone is talking about how the facts are wrong meanwhile the comment section has to be one of the most IGNORANT and most INCORRECT comment section on the internet.
If you call horses getting DRUGS injected in their veins, note illegal drugs, being “taken care of” you are incredibly selfish and clearly don’t care about the horse’s safety.
I didn’t say the trainers were injecting drugs in their veins. A lot of horse racing facilities inject illegal drugs in them to make them run faster. Also, there is proof for this. I saw a study earlier on, since I was researching about the sport, that most race horses showed positive in an illegal drug test. I’m not saying I know shit about horse racing, but there is proof that it’s cruel. And, I do know, since I am a horse rider myself, (even though I’m not saying I’m “qualified” because of this) that making the horses do all of this running, especially at a young age, is really bad for the horse.
To all the people who are talking about the American horses in the comments. I'm guessing the reason that they only talked about British horses is because they were I'm Europe. Also Man O' War and Secretariat were better than Frankel :)
@@edthesock2101 Stop commenting crap. Secretariat will ALWAYS win. No one can beat him. Have you heard of secretariat winning the Belmont park stakes, by 31 lengths? I guess not, because you keep commenting crap, and is too busy doing that, and not looking up a historical race, horse.

not really a balanced look at the world of horse racing. where are the horses who don't work out as winners? where do they go? tell us about the kill pens; the horse meat trade. the horses killed in training and in competition. another rosy picture of a less than rosy game.
or the horses who get adopted out to loving homes but live their entire lives with scars from the sport. lost two horses to lymphangitis this year, from poor care on the track.
gatorgityergranny They get sold to homes where they get schooled to jumping horses or whatever i have an retired race horse at my stable and he didn’t win so much so he got sold to the stable i ride at and he was in really good condition when he came to the farm
Yes hardwork, hardship and sweat from the horses. Money making from animals - do you really think they would be racing these horses if there wasn't something in it for them.....Greed!!
Good doc but was hoping you would find out more on the corruption side of which there is a lot. Horse racing is rife with fiddles and the punter that funds horse racing gets to hear none of it they treat the punters with contempt and share the spoils among them selfs.
A very one sided account of the racing industry. Would love to see the flip side that shows what happens to the thousands of horses that don't run fast enough!!!!!
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most of the people calling this abuse have never been to a racetrack let alone the backside of the racetrack. You could argue whether or not its humane but abuse is far from the way these animals are treated. This is an industry with regulations like any other. These animals are pampered considering the amount of money the owner pays the trainer. Every race morning the Vet comes to the barn to see that the horses that will run that day are looking in top shape. The slightest indication of anything bothering the horse and the horse wouldn't be able to run. The horses are also checked a second time that same day right before loading into the starting gate. And then a 3rd examination by the vet occurs post race. I'm not arguing that there aren't bad people who have done terrible things to horses. I remember reading an article on google about a farm who's owners abandoned their horses and they were found starving to death some time later. That's abuse. Horse racing isn't.
Completely agree, alot of the shit you see about the horse racing industry is abuse. They never show the good side of it, the actual caring of their horses and how much their owners love and care for them. It's disgusting really
Race horses are wonderfully talented and love to run, truly magnificent animals. The common instances of abuse and discarding the horses after breaking them down needs HUGE improvement though. Laws and regulations need to be stricter to cut down on the very common problematic practices, so this sport and thoroughbred horses can continue to exist without them suffering for it.
She is an amazing horse. I don't think we will ever get a mare performing as consistent as her for the amount of time that she has. She is truly a great. What she has done in Australia might not ever be done again. Frankel is another beast as well as Sea The Stars. Enjoy the horse while you can because the truth is their careers are very short!
G'day.. First of all I love the YT name you have LOL.... Secondly Winx is the worlds greatest racehorse ATM! As was Black Cavier in her time andhý Frankel alike! I am an ex jockey and in my humble opinion Black Cavier was the best (they all raced over different distances so hard to gauge times etc..but BLACK CAVIER had a host of issues physically and the was brilliantly trained by Peter Moody who kept her sound enough to do what she did...and that in itself deserves extremely high praise.
Yep. Just a tidbit for any readers unfamiliar with this abbreviation. A.I. stands, in this instance, for artificial insemination, not artificial intelligence. Another black eye on the Thoroughbred breeding industry is nurse mares. Also, related to the no-A.I. issue, is when Stallion owners are so money hungry that they subject their stallions to airplane flights in order to transport them to the opposite hemisphere of the globe so the stud can cover more mares. I doubt air travel is easily tolerated by horses.
Lot of ignorant people in the comments who you can clearly tell have never had a racehorse. My dad and family have had race horses, and they are loved like you would love a family dog. Don't even mention the money that goes into caring for them...
Did the jockeys hit the horses with sticks and stuff? Did your family give medication/drugs to the horses right before a race? Racing horses have a great life until it comes to an actual race or when they're too old and most of the owners don't care about them anymore. Not saying that your family treated the horses badly, but abuse is a problem in general
Melina K You know that nobody uses sticks while riding. Also the majority of all race horses gets treated good, just because you watched a video from PETA that only showed on stable doesn’t mean everybody abuses their horses! Race horses must take drugs test before competing, but you didn’t know that, did you?
The business of horse racing reminds me of "puppy mills". Everyone wants the next super stud, so who cares if the horse only stays healthy enough to race for just five years. We could double the racing careers if we demanded that all competition horses "must" compete without any form of hoof protection. Almost everyone in the medical field know that most of the health problems are rooted in hoof care, but it doesn't fit into their business model to push for change. You see for the medical professional it's more profitable to correct a torn tendon or ligament, for the owner's we've made it more profitable to put it out to stud. In other equine sports it is because of ignorance, in Tb racing it is intentional ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7fnW3NLklCw.html Look around my channel and see the transformations that are possible when we help the hoof perform as nature intended.
While it is very true that there are bad people and bad owners in the racing world, it is also very true that Many of those in the horse racing industry are smart enough to know to take Extremely good care of their horses. For most people these horses are investments and a broken down horse is worthless (in investment terms), so it makes more sense to them to take proper and exceptional care of these horses so they may be used or sold for stud to create future winners.
@@reverse_thoughts8120 At first, like most, I thought “those evil owners,” but after watching this video I’m not so sure ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GDS2YkMcJ0Y.html In California >35% of the horses on the “Vets List” are managed by < 5% of the Trainers. The most enlightening fact for me in this video started around 18 minutes
Reverse_Thoughts are you really serious? You believe that? Use ‘em up. Buy another. Horse racing owners aren’t in it to take exceptional care of their investments. It’s to expensive. Sort term fast gain is key. Cash flow is key. Vets are expensive and only the best of farms really use them to prolong the life of their horses. Taking good care of racing animals is a good way to go broke. Puppy mills are the same - sell pups while they’re cute. Breed the kennel breeders until they can’t. Putting vet care into them is not making money. Once they can no longer make money for the mill owner off they go for the one way walk over the hill. The Amish are notorious puppy mill operators. Believe me. They don’t feed anything that doesn’t make them money. The number of horses that make it to a good home after their race career is low. The number that get sent to the killers is much higher. They have to wring one more dollar out of the animal by selling it to the killers.
bmc06239 TBs have big bodies for lung capacity and very long lean legs. That doesn’t ever get balanced. I don’t think they ever get to mature properly before being put to work. Tbreds have notoriously terrible, shelly, thin soled feet. And yes. No foot. No horse
Hey gattergetyrgranny- Well most of the Thoroughbreds end up as sport horses. Many are used as pony club mounts. Hunters, jumpers, dressage, and event horses and show jumpers, and yes even cow horses.. The kill pens also end up with thousands of mustangs which supposedly are illegal to kill.. Explains that one to me genius before you condemn an entire industry for the economic realty that because of market economics causes horse- which are farm animals to end up like cows, hogs, chickens sheep etc.. The realty is people like you are the ones who truly only tell half the story.. best Bruce Peek
Poor horses those people treated horses like abjects a machine for making money even inject all kind of drugs on the poor animals racing is a very cruel sport.
Any equine sport is in that case abusive. I have raced and jumped, I love my horses with all of my heart and nevef forced them into anything. Ofc there are bad people but there is everywhere in all sports.
Why does anyone bother with horse racing anymore? The number of none runners makes it a mugs game. If the bookies just return all bets when there is a none runner that would be perfect and refuse to sponsor the event if the trainers are so unreliable to withdraw in the last 2 hours before a race starts that would make it fair for the punter. Otherwise the trainer has all the power, can withdraw when they feel like it and deliberately mess up the market. If a horse is unfit don't bring it along at all. Leave the bugger at home, don't bother coming to the event to save money and announce it a day before. The trainers have all the power in racing. They literally have too much control over the racing markets and can rig it as they like.
@@lxmxly_0665 Winx isn’t faster than Frankel, Frankel was one of the best milers in the UK.. Winx wasn’t even that great of a horse, just because she won a lot of races in Australia doesnt mean she is the best. AUS races are significantly less lower rated than UK or US races, if Winx would’ve raced once in the US, she would easily get beaten by anyone. That just shows how she really wasn’t that great of an horse. Take Zenyatta for an example, she was better than Winx. She beat all of the boys, except for one, in all of her races. She won two Breeders Cup races, and Breeders Cup races are literally the World Championships for horses.
Particularly its not as seriously bad, they also get paid for training horses which they do not show in this video. Really the jockey is there to ride the horse the right way, while the trainer and horse do the heavier work in respect to the jockey.

Okay I would just like to say, that thoroughbreds love to run. They are made to run. Not all racehorses are used for money. yes they do get injured sometimes. Obviously if you do get a bad owner then yeah, I can understand what you all mean. But look at all the horses in this video, look at how well there treated. These horses are bred for racing. Anyone that says there’s any animal abuse in this video are utterly stupid.
There's animal abuse during the race. Horses are beaten with sticks pretty badly. I'm from Germany and there even is a law that prohibits the jockeys to hit their horses more than three times during a race or they'll get disqualified. It hurts and scares the horses when you beat them so much. Also the race at young age with not fully grown bones is damaging
Melina K Not everyone uses the whip during the race, also not everyone beats the shit of the horses, just a little tap or they just use the whip to make a sound.

@4orrcountry sure he might have been faster but Seattle Slew won the Kentucky derby even when he was showing signs of colic. The drugs are strictly monitored with daily urine tests. Only 2 types allowed in the system, and they stay on the record and bidding sheets for 5 days. The nerve removing surgery is done by severing the nerve responses at the pattern and is ILLEGAL. Anyone who does this is asking for a breakdown (not worth it) and pay a hefty price when caught. This only still happens in third world racing countries
@@youreuglysorrynotsorry9168 why would their noses bleed when the animals are apparently not mistreated in any way? The blood must be rushing too fast in their veins causing damage and thus a nosebleed. Pretty unnatural for a well treated horse, right?
Melina K if you actually did research, you’d know lmao. i never said they were not mistreated in any way. the race industry has flaws like all other events. they get nosebleeds because they’re running so hard, so they give the Lasix to prevent that. other than some little things like that, they’re treated like kings and taken care of very well. y’all need to stop getting information from peta and shit animal rights groups :))

@@CalvesFanatic No, no idiot can ride recently retired racehorses, especially "jumps " horses in Britain and Ireland. They are very intelligent and will often hate certain people and love others. Many years ago, a wealthy female bankerin the City, bought an ex Irish racehorse (jumps) and he hated her. He had a minor injury to the forelock on one leg and I was told by the vet to onlywalk him, but walk him a fairly long distance, with a pressure sock on him. "Blue" and I loved each other. His owner paid me to care for him, and when it was cold winter, I put his tack on him and decided to ride him, although an inexperienced , very basic rider.Everything was going great until he say a low hedge and suddenly galloped to clear it easily. I went mad at Blue. Took him immediately back to his stable. (no fancy riding kit - rode with my full motorcycle kit on). He knew he'd been a bad boy. He got fed and groomed for a week, but not let out, which he'd never experienced. Put the tack on him again and he was a lamb. Nice walking, into the trot and then the slow canter. Can do that, but never tried to gallop or jump ever again with me. What he did with his hated owner is another story. I'm telling you this true story, as good racehorses, evern with minor injuries, are not destroyed and sold for pet food in Europe.

As interesting as this is, Venus Williams has nothing to do with breeding a horse. Shame on you, CNBC. Inappropriate and should have been edited out for sure.
A lot of people here are sharing their opinions, so I’ll share mine. The horse racing industry is cruel to their horses no matter how you put it. Firstly, horses only start at 2 years old, which is when their still growing and their bones aren’t ready to take on a full track. Also, the horses get drugged before and even after races. They put drugs in their feed, and inject illegal drugs, alcohol, or even snake venom in their veins to make them run faster. Around 24 horses die each week in the US alone. Note, only US. So, this means, that even more horses probably died in other countries. Most horses die from when their bones break or shatter. Any horses that don’t win races (which are called “rats” in the industry) are sent to slaughter at just 5 or 6 years old. That’s pretty young considering horses can live to 30. Many racers are just in for horse racing and don’t care about what the stable does or how they care about the horses. Why would you support an industry who kills and slaughters animals for “not being good enough”. Please re think horse racing.
