Culture shocks are real. I have decided to share my experiences of life in Germany as a Brit, as well as the beautiful places I am lucky enough to visit.
My meditative videos show a calming and artistic view of the places I visit and the quiet, peaceful wanders I take through them. Medieval villages, picturesque cottages, beautiful cities. Relax and escape with me from the busy bustling world to my dreamy and serene slow living way of seeing my surroundings. Experience the magic of peering into the past and being in a fairytale, just for a little while.

My father always said that there is not much that justifies a war. He was a soldier in the Second World War, and afterwards he was a prisoner of war in France. He had to work as a miner and a gravedigger. He then moved to a farm near Montpellier. He was friends with the farmer ever since, and this friendship lasted his whole life. A friendship between two men who, under unfortunate circumstances, might have had to shoot each other. Thank you for the beautiful video.❤️ Sorry for the long text.

These video leaves nobody cool. You found the right words and pictures. For me it was very important to visit Verdun. This lovely town was known as a place of horror. My grandfather was a soldier in the First war. It was very important for to visit the battlefields of Verdun. These fields left me speechless and thoughtful. My grandfather got wounded in Alsace at Hartmanwillerkopf. After WWII he started visiting his former comrade and friend in Alsace. There were never harsh words against him when he was in Alsace. Charles de Gaule hold a speech in Bonn and said: " Ich liebe Deutschland". And he started the French German Friendship. The people in Saarland and Alsace and Lorraine worked in each others countries. Only CORONA told them there was once a border. We should never forget what De Gaule and Adenauer did for each others countries. Lauren thank you for this great movie. You did a great job. Peter

My father came back home late 45 as a prisoner of war from France, he was 18 and underweighted until 45 kg, but he never spoke bad about France nore the French. My grandmother had a French prisoner of war in her house for the winyard work. He came visiting her regularily until end of the 50ees. The same in a neighbourhood house where a bomb had destroyed everything and killed all the people inside except the French prisoner who had survived , thanks to the wine barrels who had protected him from the crashing walls. So good that we live in better times today here in Europe, hopefully the world can learn from the French-German lesson.

During WWII my grand-parents risked their lives as they hid Jewish people and even British aviators at a point. Once the war was over, they were early partisans of the reconciliation between France and Germany; I never heard them say anything bad about the Germans. Needless to say they were warm supporters of the creation of what was to become the European Union. And indeed, if there should be only one justification for the EU, that's indeed this one achievement: PEACE. A long and lasting peace and friendship between nations that in the past wasted centuries and millions lives fighting each other to the point of almost destroying each other. I'm French but I now live in Eastern Belgium close to the borders with both Luxembourg and Germany. I regularly go to Germany (going again in two weeks for the Christmas market in Bernkastel-Kues, my third trip across the border this year), and I must say that it's always a pleasure to visit Germany. I'm not fluent but I can speak decent German.

Speaking from the other side of the Pond, I have to say that, previously, I'd never really looked in to the Battle of Verdun. I just looked it up, though, and was immediately _stunned._ The one in 1916 ran from 21 February to 18 December. Almost _eleven months_ in a _single battle._ No _wonder_ the Great War induced such a state of war fatigue.

My grand-uncle Kurt died at the Verdun-battle aged 19. One of the countless young lives wasted there for aristocratic vanity. And yes, you are very right, it has been much worse in the past. I am sick and tired of all that whining of people claiming it's at the worst ever, for the panic the people spread confirms people's fears. And the more people fear, the more right-wing they vote and the more right-wing they vote, the closer a new war comes.

From tree Brother who went into the First World War, two were killed, two were never found again. One died at Verdun in an attack on an enemy position. The other one, nobody knows exactly where he died, the documents have probably not been preserved, if there ever were any. The last remaining brother was my great-grandfather, who, like my grandfather who fought in the Second World War, he suffered the psychological and physical consequences of the war for the rest of his life. Once, when I was visiting, I heard him crying at night. When I asked him the next morning why he had cried, he just said that these are things you don't need to know anything about, and a little bitterly that I should be happy not to know anything about it and hope that I would never experience it first hand. He only meant that battles and war are only in history, noble and equestrian, the reality is a thousand times worse than what you can imagine.
