How the HAMILTON Quartz Khaki Field Compares to Previous Versions 

I don't distinguish between field and military watches. Given that the Khaki mechanicals cannot be regulated by hand at any watchmaker, the quartz seems better. Military watches were designed to be field serviceable. it's sort of a given a bad quartz movement is just replaced. If these calibers are compatible with readily available replacements, overall the quartz feels more like a field watch.

I still have the 33mm Hamilton purchased through L.L. Bean in 1987. After two servicings and a couple of regulations, it is still running at about -5 secondds per day. I'll never part with it.

I think this is a great release. My first "real" Swiss watch was a 40mm quartz Victorinox field watch, as a young college student. I later supplemented that with a black 38mm field watch from the same brand, which I still have to this day (runs great). I can probably blame my love on field watches on that watch. It came on a nice leather strap, but had only a mineral crystal for a whole $5 less than these new Hamilton quartz models (adjusted for inflation). Sapphire is a nice bonus here, though to feed into the discussion, anti-reflective coating is not mentioned in the specs like Hamilton does for the 38mm Murph releases. Victorinox doesn't have a current equivalent in their lineup, so it's nice to see this entry military inspired quartz option. As for the triangle up top on these Hamiltons, there definitely are vintage Hamilton references with this layout. Just look up the Hamilton 6B military watches. I am all in on the 38mm, but will be curious to see how well the 33mm sells. It may just be perfect for those with young, small wrists.

Very nice....I just wish they would split the difference and offer the Khaki Field in 36mm even though it would probably mean a 19mm lug width to keep the same case proportions.

I want the 33mm so bad, but $400 is just crazy talk. I literally can get a khaki field mechanical for less than that brand new.

Looks like a British pattern G10 as built by CWC in the 70s for the MOD. Great looking little things. The price for a Quartz watch is a little crazy though. I don’t get why the didn’t make it a hand cranker. Cheap move.

I think it’s a shame they they used the same hand set as the mechanical 38mm watch because the minute hand doesn’t reach the railroad track marks on the new quartz (they are shorter than the tick marks on the mechanical version).

I’ve waited a long time for them to remake a 33mm quartz. I’m very happy.

Nice video. For those “in the field” for weeks and months, smaller, less obtrusive watches are preferable, imho. Glad to see they are coming back.

Nice watches but I’d have preferred a slightly domed sapphire, like on the mechanical version. Or an acrylic like vintage ones. I just don’t like flat sapphire crystals.

i'm a big fan of the 33mm khaki's and had multiple so far. I bought this one because i wanted a brand new one. I must say on my 90s khaki the finishing is nicer, i don't know what Hamilton is doing with their bead blasting these days. The old ones were nice matt and smooth, the new khaki's have a much rougher bead blast which doesn't look as nice imo.

Overpriced piece

I bought the 38mm black dial vintage lume. I love it. Love the railtrack. Love that it is quartz. Zero servicing costs, watch is ready to go day after day year after year. I am not a quartz snob, I have a few automatics but they don’t always suit my lifestyle. Picked the watch up for £315. Great price for a Hamilton.

Something about the standard tick quartz in the Khaki Field cheapens the whole, whereas the manually wound movement with the sweeping second hand in the OG elevates it just enough to hold its own in the market. It's idiosyncratic in a mostly automatic world, yet simply and tastefully done. It kind of refuses to be taken too seriously, yet requires tending to keep it going. It's a winner. I just wish Hamilton would simplify the strap design. The leather keepers are too quaint and the feeble strips over the holes don't hold up.

Just got mine. I LOVE it. I’ve had many Hamilton Khaki field watches, mechanical and quartz. I think this one is my favorite. The dial is so clean and the 38mm size is perfect. The crystal does have anti-reflective coating on the outside. It does smudge, but really helps with reflections and legibility-especially at extreme angles.

Also the lack of the 24hr dial is common on British military / non-service dials. I prefer this dial.

I would like to encourage anyone who's reviewing watches to test their accuracy as standard practise. That includes the quartz ones. Because there are quality details that get overlooked when accuracy is disregarded. Yes, there are people who don't care, but what about those of us who do care?

thats a really charming watch to have passed down, I brought one of those domed arylic quartz hamiltons a while back and love it to bits! you must be really pleased with it

Overpriced for what it is. On the plus side, you won't be exposing yourself the the (not if, but when) that crap hand wind mechanical movement fails.

38mm black quartz is the best easy to dress and looks really good on wrist
