as a DJ let me tell you: Grimes's flop at Coachella was literally proof that she cannot DJ, and that she did not prepare her set properly; this mistake would not have happened if she simply made sure beforehand that all her tracks have correct BPM's and that non of them get fucked when she plugs into a console (which she should have checked on the sound check) AND (most importantly) if she actually DJ'ed as most of us do, and not used the 'beat sync' option, which basically makes DJing almost the same as playing songs from a Spotify playlist. The fact that someone without any basic DJ skills performs at Coachella is a bit baffling to me tbh.

I wish you had mentioned her insane comments about how "her son is destined to have the same journey and struggles as Paul Atreides from DUNE" 💀💀

Im not sure what happened at Cochella, but from what I know, modern CDJ programs adjust the speed of songs for you, but old school DJs can do it by ear. This is a major crux in the DJ community, many people believe if you can't beat match by ear, then you're relying too much on tech. If she was relying on the sync button, then software is doing this by numbers. If your numbers are wrong and you can't adjust the tempo by ear then you'd have to adjust the tempo using numbers like how the software does. If the bmp was doubled, I guess you'd need to make extra steps for you to achieve this matching.

Unless she’s djing straight jazz or foxtrots everything should be divisible by even numbers since it’s going to be in 4/4 measures or maybe 6/8 measures if she plays a song with that Gary Glitter beat or the Personal Jesus beat. Frankly, she should at least be able to dj without having to have everything preloaded like its homework assignment. You should be able to dj with a working mixer and sound without even the use of a WAV visualization. Also, having someone doing all your prep work for you sounds like a terrible idea for any club let alone Coachella.

Ah when you mentioned the custody battles that made me really sad. I grew up within a custody battle that lasted over a decade. I would not wish that on any other child ever. I have serious mental health issues because of the stress it caused, I was so distressed by it that my literal puberty was delayed. Man, I’ll never forget seeing an interview grimes did like a year ago where she said she liked the patriarchy because we wouldn’t have food, bridges, or modern civilization without it. 😭😂

I knew things were bad when the way she spoke changed. Little nuggets and terms and whistles that inform me what she's reading online, yknow? For example, in a Vogue interview (I think?) she talked about how a photo of herself kissing a woman went viral and got her a lot of hate on tumblr back in the early 2010s. She proceeds to say this was "before the woke era" so a photo of two women kissing wouldn't be well received back then. I remember thinking what an *interesting* word choice there. 2011 me would've never imagined Grimes and my super Fox-News-Watching uncle would be using words the same way.

As for the dj stuff: basically in rekordbox (dj software) it sometimes analyses the songs at different bpms or half time. I dj drum and bass; so 174 a likely dnb tempo sometimes is listed as 87 bpm. When you have sync on, it will change the track that’s listed at 87 to 174 (ie syncing the tempo); however it means the sound sounds double speed. The way is an easy fix you just press x2 in export mode in rekordbox. She would have encounter the issue if she had time to practice her set 😅. Most DJs know how to dj by ear (with visuals - vinyls is not for everyone) and don’t 100% rely on sync; like it’s a case of just turning off sync, reloading the track and then making if as she stayed 173 (what sub focus usually is) just 86.5 . I have a phone with a calculator. The other issue is she outsourced her rekordbox prep - which I get it’s annoying but like…. Girl no 😂.

I feel like there’s a few things wrong with this video. Just because grimes comes from a wealthy background does not mean that she has been supported from her family in her music career. She is a college drop out who left to pursue music, whilst in college there’s interviews of her saying she couldn’t afford to heat her apartment. It is very feasible she wasn’t supported in artist endeavours when her family appear very academic. However, upon this, even if she had been supported by her family I don’t understand why this is relevant to anyone because she has never claimed to be or not to be, and this has no impact on her art apart from her own personal influences, and if her art is not appealing to you because of her upbringing or background just don’t listen to her? Another which I think is my main point is that you’ve held over her head a clearly abusive relationship. If you have any knowledge on how domestic abuse happens, they influence many parts of someone’s life including what the say and their beliefs. Love and attachment can make people act in so many ways, but when someone has clearly been taken advantage of, I find it vastly unfair to hold this over them especially regarding her children.

That album is fully a 10/10 masterpiece and even though she has followed it up with decent stuff, the best thing she ever could’ve done was drop that one album and fade intentionally into obscurity Jai Paul style. I was a big fan of Grimes' music, honestly Art Angels was one of my fave albums of 2015. I even saw her perform a set at a music festival and it was really fun! So imagine my surprise when I learned she was dating Musk. And then things got worse and worse and I just... yikes lol.

I will always love Geidi Primes, Halfaxa, Darkbloom, Visions, Artangels and some songs of Miss Anthropocene. That being said, it's sad what has happened with Grimes. I know she was always eccentric, but she's said a tooon of tone-deaf things currently.
