✔️gourmet food - high-quality food which is more unusual or sophisticated than ordinary food, and is often more expensive
✔️fancy - special, unusual, and decorative
✔️pretentious - trying to appear more important or clever than it really is

VOCABULARY I've learnt from this today programme 🍱 * Gourmet food: high-quality and more sphisticated than usual and is often more expensive. * Fancy (adj): special, unusual and decorative. * Pretentious (adj): trying to appear more important or clever than they really are. * Turn someone off: make someone stop feeling interested or excited. * Sarcastic (adj): mock or insult something by saying the opposite of what you mean. * Posh (adj): fashionable, smart, expensive and exclusive.

Pretentious: [more ~; most ~] disapproving :having or showing the unpleasant quality of people who want to be regarded as more impressive, successful, or important than they really are 3. Neil said 'posh means fashionable, smart, expensive and exclusive'. Smart and expensive are separated by a comma, as Neil was listing the similar words. 'Smart' is to look stylish, and 'expensive' means that it costs a lot of money 😊

Most gourmet foods are fancy and use posh French names to sound pretentious. However, this might cause some diners to be sarcastic or even turn them off completely.

French words in English can be tricky to pronounce! Even native English speakers sometimes mispronounce these words 😊
