This is probably the one movie that is closest to Norse mythology. So many movies (looking at you MCU) use Norse characters without actually knowing how to make them feel and imbed them in an actual mythology and atmosphere.
This film looks great! It looks like it has the perfect blend of historical accuracy and fantasy WOW factor. Most Viking media these days does a poor job at rendering the culture well because the people just put the actors in leather and fur wether they’re doing a battle scene or not. I’m looking at you Vikings and Last Kingdom. With video games like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, there’s more leeway because game makers tend to put characters in one general outfit to save on programming multiple different textures and colors for different outfits in different scenes, even if said character only wears a different type of outfit once in the game. It’s a lot more work than just changing the actors costume, so shows and movies have no excuse, which is why I’m so glad that this movie is actually focusing on portraying the clothing with relative accuracy. So excited for The Northman!
the reason History Channel is a joke. All their _history_ is -How the Nazis invented everything from the B2 Stealth Bomber to UFOs to Secret Antarctic Bases to the Hollow Earth, Moon Bases, etc… -Cryptids like the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot -Ancient Aliens
@@trolltalwar true, clothes and armor are better than anything put to film so far, even mannerism and way of life to some degree. But it gets religion all wrong, apary from that, the average height in those days was 4’9, swedes were not gigants and built like The Rock. They were strong cause most were farmers and everyone lived a hard life. But if it was accurate it wouldnt show any of them so ripped and tall.
@tepes vikings didnt run around in battle with no clothes on just to show their sixpack. They didnt drink from horns made of glass. And they did not have magical swords that could only by unsheated at night. And kids in that age could not row a boat on their own from Iceland to Russia. And they certianly did not do the Haka like they do in this movie.
Though it's worth noting that the oldest actual record of nordic mythology and spiritual beliefs we have was written by an englishman who didn't fully understand their language.
Thanks to Christian monks atleast they wrote down your Sagas of u illiterate tribals. If u was invaded by Muzzlims ur norse people wouldn't even ve a history to look back😂😂

@@ColombianThunder you’re thinking of metatron i’m pretty sure but biblical angles were not robots, they were weird looking yeah but metatron is the only “robot” angel that is mentioned and even then i’m pretty sure it’s only some weird subgroup of mormons and christian’s that believe in that
It's crazy how Norse myth is even older than ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology. It was a time when writing only existed in the form of runes which ultimately led to the evolution of language and writing. The fact that there are some similarities between Greek and Norse myth might suggest that many vikings introduced their stories to the Greeks thru merchants
Norse mythology is amazing, but it is not older than Greek or Egyptian mythology. In fact it was probably based on Greek mythology and not the other way around.
No. Greek Myth is older and so is Egyptian but remember, Norse Myth is Indo-European. It shares the same origin as the Greek one and Indo-European myths encompass Norse and Greek. Thor = Zeus = Indra (North India) = Perun (Slavs).
Hello one question How historically correct is the Viking priestess outfit? That "crown of feathers" that looks like an Aztec plumed crown really existed in the viking world????
You mean... There's no black high-ranking warrior, or trans lover, or lesbian kissing, or mixed race romance??? No it can't be! 🤣😂 Finally, a non-woke film to look forward to 👍
Originally it was spelled and pronounced Óðinn (with a soft D) but changed over time as the Scandinavian dialog evolved. But it is still spelled this way in Icelandic and Faroese.
@@derekavigliano4567 There's nothing in the 2 shots of the horned helmet figure to indicate he has a head in his hands, there is no head in the first shot and the second is from behind and there's no shapes or anything that would lead anyone to think he is holding a head. How you came to that conclusion is beyond me. Pause at 4:17 and explain where you got the idea of a head being held because that is not what is shown at all lol.
That looks to be a ceremonial helmet though, historically ceremonial helmets often did have horns or skulls or wings attached. Theres actually a really interesting celtic one from the 3rd century that had flapping mechanical wings, there's also the Sutton Hoo viking helmet found in the 1939 excavation of a burial ship with an elaborate dragon cast in bronze that has its wings over the eyeguards and tail over the nasal guard.
😂 because there is a vikings saga where this happens. Its what inspired the Shakespeare play of Hamlet. So since then they've just kept using this type of story.
