"A Star Is Born," starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, scored eight Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. It has also been praised for its use of both music and sound, which might explain why it was also nominated in the sound mixing category as well. We talked to the film's sound team who showed us how they captured, layered, mixed and edited all the sounds for the scene featuring the song "Shallow," nominated in the Original Song category. Balancing dialogue, Foley sounds, and instruments would be difficult, but the team also had to work with live vocals, which presented the team with and especially tough challenge. What we end with is one of the most Oscar-worthy scenes of 2018.

When I was in the theater, just seconds in the movie you can hear crowd noises and people screaming, and you can actually feel like you're in an actual concert sorrounded by thousands of people

It makes me glad they have their own categories at the Oscars cause their work is vital. It also makes me sad that some other important jobs (casting directors or stunts, for example) don't have their own categories yet

I got the chance to watch this movie in dolby atmos theater. It was surreal, the sound was on another level. And i think the sounds guy deserve OSCAR for their work.

Yoooooo!!! when the intro started I instinctively cowed my shoulders and almost turned fully around....like wtf, that is a live ass band playing behind me. And then ppl shouting in front of me? I was on stage! The choice to open in black really made you aware of the effectiveness of Atmos . ASIB should ONLY play in Atmos😁

Actually, in real life, her best friend Sonja passed away while filming that scene. So, the tears were real at the end

She did amazing even take though. She never missed a beat. No mistakes. Even though she was completely devastated about her friend. But the pain was used for that scene and it is felt through the screen. She's such a strong person!

@destiny escobedo GaGa posted herself on Twitter that if we wanted to be part of the ASIB filming in Los Angeles, we just had to donate like $15 or $20 dollars to the Born this way foundation and then show up the day of the filmings at The Greek theater, The Regent in DTLA, and The Shrine Auditorium. I did 3 days of filming and it was the best experience of my life. Made lots of friends and made a dream come true that I never imagined would happen. Never thought I would be able to say that I was part of a film with my favorite singer ever Lady GaGa!

I saw it 9 times in theaters and went to the LA premiere with both Bradley & GaGa present at the same exact place where we filmed the last scene of the movie. It was magical! I can't wait to buy the DVD/Bluray in 11 days!!!!

I watched the movie at home on You tube and it completely changed my attitude about Lady Gaga. I had no idea of her immense talent, I am a boomer and listen to music of my generation. She has an outstanding voice, there is no doubt about that. More importantly though, in all the interviews I saw on You Tube she was so humble, kind and loving and obviously more than just a musican now. I also find her natural beauty with her natural hair as she was presented in the beginning of the movie to definitely be her most attractive, far more than the grey and platinum hair, and excessive makeup. I will forever more be a huge Lady Gaga fan and even more so of Stephanie.

Lady Gaga as ally totally floored me. I was not a Gaga fan before this movie. I thought she was pretty but as ally she's real and a natural beauty .As I watched the movie when Shallow was sung I got chills . It was a incredible experience that I have never had in my life watching a movie. That movie has made me a Huge Gaga fan. I know she has many more fans after this performance. I have always been a fan of Bradley Cooper. I saw them perform at the oscars tonight and they sang the song live pitch perfect, it was truly amazing.

Watch her Netflix documentary 5foot2. I fell in love with her because that documentary open my eyes to how truly amazing she is. That plus the film and all her appearances makes me a very big fan😍.

I had never really heard Lady Gaga before - stopped listening to pop music 2 decades ago. I'm now a monster fan of virtually he whole career. Mesmerized 🙌 is what i am. She's always been a theatrical performer, not just a singer, while being the best pure singer of her generation as far as i know. I love both the theatre and the voice.

Also interesting: the crowd couldn't hear the instruments and vocals because the risk of leaking audio recorded by the audience was too big. The sound engineers worked really hard to make the live recorded parts sound like they blasted over the audience

That was in the live events where they filmed some of the performances like Glastonbury and Coachella. Shallow and I'll Never Love Again, for example, were recorded in controlled spaces and thus all the extras were not allowed to have phones and were obviously under NDAs.

I LOVE that entire sequence, but especially the part from when she is in the wings and decides to go sing to the end of the song. That could have been corny and unbelievable and it wasn't - I totally believed it, and it really was exciting. I LOVED the way he looked at her- a couple of times in particular he looked so proud and happy for here, and he really relinquished the spotlight to her completely. And she was fantastic too - I love the look on her face at the end when the song has ended and she suddenly comes to and is sort of in shock to realize what just happened. This whole sequence made the movie for me.

This was so fun to watch!! I saw the video in my feed for a few days now and finally clicked on it today, and it blew me away! I love how this video really made the sound waves visible and easy to understand. That whole sequence in the movie is just so thrilling ever since Ally decides to quit her job. Damn, I really wish I could watch the movie in theater again after watching this video. One of the reason why I watched the movie a couple times in theater is because of the Shallow scene. It sounds absolutely amazing. The main reason, because it's Gaga, you just have to, lol.

I'm working with that now. For someone curious "R3" It's Reel 3 (That's why the timecode begins with 03:00:00:00). The Post-Production cuts the movie in pieces for editing, Its about 18 minutes one reel. LFOA - Last Frame Of Action. And the most Obvius: update 05.24.2018, the last cut from the image editing until that moment.

Saw the very last showing in IMAX for the audio not the video! This is exactly the whirlwind scene and even climax of the movie. It rivals the scene through the restaurant kitchen in Goodfellas. Bradley's snub for Best Director is almost predictable. Academy voters need to do better. The film is a masterpiece.

After watching the movie 10+ times I still refuse to believe that Jackson is gone. To me he is very much alive inside of me. Forever. I hate that Rez Gavron and wish they had never met and Jack would still be alive.
