This power electronics video discusses how the switching frequency affects the inductor value in a buck converter, dc/dc converter, Why the average current in the capacitor is zero. It derives the minimum value of the inductor needed to keep the converter working in a continuous conduction mode.
at 00:53 If all the energy stored in the inductor is transferred to the capacitor before the end of the switching time Ts (not the duty cycle), the converter is considered working in the DCM because the inductor current reaches zero. And of course when the switch is turned ON before the current reaches zero, then it is in the CCM.

Because IL is the average so it is in the middle between ILmax and ILmin. Accordingly, ILmax is equal to IL plus delta IL over 2.
