This is how the theremin "flute" technique helped stabilize my best friend's rapid heart beat! The theremin "flute" technique or the space flute is a new playing style I have developed for the theremin this past year. It's aimed to help soothe others who may experience anxiety, stress, and/or depression.
The space flute or theremin "flute" technique started out inspired by sitar. I really enjoyed the pitch bends of the sitar, and playing Eastern music helped build a foundation for the space flute.
The space flute is the equivalent of calling a violin the fiddle. The theremin "flute" is never intended to rename the theremin but it's considered a new style for the instrument inspired by the sounds calming flute music.
I’d like to mention that this technique is never intended to replace any traditional instruments. It’s just an expansion of the theremin, aimed to help others who may experience stress, anxiety, etc.

Native Ameican flute and Japanese shakuhachi (and me playing my self-made bamboo flutes which are somewhat in between a quena and a shakuhachi) are also some of my inspirations for my theremin playing (beside a lot of ather influences) and I've played my theremin in the context of sound healing as well.

That’s awesome! I’m very excited to have found out that others have been using the theremin for sound healing as well. Theremin therapy can be very helpful! 😁

any tips for someone with ADHD to learn the theremin? did you know how to read music beforehand? how did you stick with it long enough to get good at it?

In my young adult years, I had to juggle many hobbies that didn’t really go anywhere. I did photography, videography, graphic design, and then theremin. I unified and combined all my other interests into my theremin work. Try asking yourself, can some of my current hobbies be useful or add value for the theremin? I haven’t read music notation since I was in middle school band. For me, the theremin “flute” stems from practicing improvisation and a good ear. I normally feel much more comfortable improvising than I do with written music. I have a hard time with motivation. Sometimes my brain doesn’t get the mental reward that most people get when doing a task. And it can be difficult. Right now I’m going through that a lot more. I find theremin videos that help me keep on track and motivated! Hope this helps!
