The postal service has always been a source of wonder for me: Pop a letter, with a red stamp with the Queen's head on it, into a red cylinder into the street and as if by magic, materialize in London. Or order online, without having any verbal contact with the seller, then you receive a package with YOUR address written on it from someone you never met with the item you bought exactly! What a coincidence!
The Royal Mail has become a total scam. It's misleading customers and in return giving bad customer service poor excuse ignorant annoying negligence at all times just read the complaints there is no positive review given. It may be the first world courier service but the bloody slowest. After its privatisation it's feeding off extra paying customers on first class premium mail delivery options so the business can survive longer. I don't give a single fuck from the workers whining either, I payed for my service so I want my deliveries on time infact I'm the reason you have that job. Dozen within the workforce turned out to be thieves in rightful term 'scum' and in medieval times it was treason death penalty. Don't be mugged for sending Special Delivery or similar options it's all 2nd Class anyway like No Show Up, 1st Class Stolen or Damaged Class. Royal Fail
Dropping parcels in bins nowadays who knows how many parcel have been tipped into rubbish. Leaving 'Sorry you were out' card' when you were in and them without knocking your door or ringing the bell. I have these dumb acts on evidence with CCTV Door cam. Then if they fuck up they have the nerve to offer 41p Royal Mail stamps and £50 compensation item when your could be 100 times the value.
Who ever made this video ought to start a company which creates videos of how things work. It was quite entertaining, informative and interesting as well. Especially as I work for the United States Postal Service and have some simliar operations but also different methods. I have been to England a few times and every little nuance fascinates me. Especially the public transportation. It's fantastic. A bus came by every 15-minutes and only cost a pound or two to ride. Easy to get around

@@videocurios Plus there are many instances of letters being sent to people who live in small towns and villages, with only the recipients name and town/village written on the envelope but because the location is small and close-knit the postman/woman is able to ascertain where the letter needs to go.
To all the people moaning about the price of a stamp - for that price your letter or parcel is delivered anywhere. Try putting same cost of fuel in your car and see how far you get. 1st class mail gets there next day 96% of the time. In any other sphere of life a 96% success rate is considered a dead cert, an amazing performance, an operation with a near certain chance of success, a First Class degree etc. Royal Mail does this every day. All the detractors - do you all perform at 96% in all areas of your life?

Most of the British public do not realise just how good RM is. Try living in a lot of other countries.I lived in the Philippines for 3 years, and the postal service there is diabolical. I sent a letter just 50 km from my home. It took 14 days to get there, and it had been opened, to see if there was anything in it worth stealing.

Bless your heart, I'm an avid philately & postal service enthusiast (especially UK Royal Mail) and I admire postal workers very much. I'm always happy when a postman rings my door no matter if he brings me my delightful Amazon package or some dreadful overdue credit card notice (LOL). the workers most of them atleast have my full respect, the place itself as a business a now private business with inflated prices not so much, the sorting offices take on mostly people that dont want to be there and often fuck with peoples mail, it is not as it seems on the outside.
That is stunning. That's like the best of the West, really. Everything so efficient and mechanized and I love the way a van will drive all that way just to deliver one card. And get there too. A whole country all knitted together by the post. And how about all those people who just put names on the envelope and no address? How can 400 people a week do that?
it really isn't as effecient as videos like this suggest, I worked at the huge sorting office here and the majority of workers are people that don't want to be there don't want to be working and have taken the job as a last chance effort to get the dole off their back about job hunting, most do it for christmas and just fuck around throwing shit and destroying peoples parcels, it was honestly shocking to me how some people will act while handling other peoples goods, i never used royal mail after that, i'd rather not have shit stained fingers gary wiping his ass with his hand and then wiping it on my parcels but that is the kinda shit you'll get there.
OH MY! MY LIFE IS A LIE!! I was told that once you put the letter through the post box, a short gremlin picks it up and through it underneath the ground in which the letter teleports to the destinations nearest postbox!! Never saying Hi to the gremlin inside the post box again..

Especially the people who haven't been there long. 1st line of address and postcode are the most important thing to make sure of. And FFS, please check that your sticky labels on your plastic packaging doesn't easily peel off. One company kept sending us mail that had stickers sticking to stickers and pulling them off both pieces of mail so much that I just emailed the company 🤷🏻♂... Ah, good memories to this, I used to have a summers job in a mail sorting centre. One of the best summer jobs I've had, even though it was at an oviously fast pace.
We are using very similar mail system in Hong Kong and is very efficient. What I do not know is that Royal Mail in UK has their own cargo flight. In Hong Kong, we use the payload of commercial airlines available, like Cathay Pacific Airway.
I am in HK too...I guess the system here was adopted from the British because there used to be red post boxes, I think, with the Queen on...1997 seems a long time ago now.
why cant they build a high speed conveyor belt lets say, 15000mph, underground i must say... to my house and only my house, from every main depot in the uk, so me and only me can get my mail... instantly as quick as im posting this comment... why i ask? why me.
Good for the post, although postman now arrives in the middle afternoon. My great grandad was a postman and he'd be turning in his grave if he knew this was happening now. Go for private companies when sending big parcels, half the cost and more efficient!
gosh how things have changed-a post box gets emptied once a day as early as 9am in villages and 5pm in towns so if you have a letter in a village box going in at noon there it will sit till 9am the day after,all collections used to be 4-5pm and 6.30pm in towns,then the letter can go in to the system and either arrive next day,arrive never or arrive a fortnight later with "not at no 32 try at number whatever" on it as its sat in the wrong house for a fortnight misdelivered untill its been kindly put back in the post.
29/01 23, 9am collections rarely occur within my post code area & neighbouring codes - the Day tabs indicate this. This does however jack up RM's 'efficiency.' Their Quality of Service results are based on Collection times - the time from when the mail is collected. Many p m collections have been scrapped so your letter won't be collected from these boxes until tomorrow, excluding Sundays & Bank Hol's, unless it shows an afternoon collection time. Comparing results may not be a like-for-like comparison when giving current & any previous Quality of Service data. RM now want to be a parcel & packet delivery business along with numerous competitors. Your groceries maybe arriving via your postperson who'll be competing for road space too along with half a dozen of the Supermarket's own vehicles out there as well, all claiming to have their own individual 'Green' credentials. What would Great say ?
Time it takes Royal Mail in a modern country like the UK, to deliver a letter over a distance of say 400km? 1 day. Time it takes Canada Post to deliver a letter in a modern country like Canada over a distance of say 50km. 1 week. Royal Mail are the best in the world. Enough said!

I have read a few comments saying how much cheaper Chinese mail is. If nothing has changed in the last few years, Chinese mail to us is subsidised, probably to help a developing country! So the seller of cheap chinese tat pays not a lot to send the cheap crap to you and the royal mail don't get paid to deliver it.

Thing is I'm not complaining, the only thing I moaned about was the difference between the round in this clip and mine. His being miles easier than mine. There's plenty of easier rounds in my office but round allocation is on seniority order so they are all take by the guys with 20+ years service. I actually like my job, it keeps me fit and the money is good and I there are great benefits for working for RM like the pension and various other things like healthcare plans etc.
Sam Parker If you take into account that 65 million letters are posted every day, thats about £20 million a DAY to fund all of what goes on, and that doesn't take into account all the parcels which costs about £3 to post. That is £7.3 billion funding for all of the post in the UK, and the boat is just for the Scottish Islands
The cost of the "personalised" services is subsidised by the shorter bulk delivery routes . That is what the universal service obligation is all about and what governments are helping to destroy ! By allowing other companies to muscle in on the more profitable areas they are in effect taking away funding from outlying areas .
I don't think that the public get that the reason we strike is to protect the universal service (and our jobs obviously), and the delivery service itself. We love our job and we strike to protect it. God help you all when we are privatised in 2014, the service will go to hell and you will all be to blame for not supporting and protecting Royal Mail.

hm delivering by plain, driving in the middle of the night....one might wonder if it worth th cost and heavy work for regular, non-urgent mail......24 hou service in my opnion should be reserved for urgent matters only as I work for the mail in the Netherlands as a mail deliverer myself, for most mail 2 or even 3 days is not a problem
@Triwood1973 On the flip side tho, I hate it when I knock the door and can hear someone behind the door but they won't open it because they think I might be a bailiff or the police even when I say "it's the postman". I then spend a couple of mins filling out a card and the second I pop it through the door they open it with some bullshit excuse that they were in the garden.
