German economy is basically based on import of cheap oil and gas, raw materials, and upstream parts from China, and export of high value-added products. For now, Germany has been cut off cheap oil gas supply from Russia, thus the German energy-intensive industries suffer the most. Imagine if Germany loses the access to the China market - not only the cheap upstream parts, but also a 1.4 billion people market that the German products can sell to.
So sad you are so ignorant. The US LNG ban applies to any expansion after the current allowable expansion that is approved. That approved expansion covers any possible requirements by the EU and Japan together. Get yourself an education.
What do you care 🤔 you don't live in Europe 😅😅. You must be sad predictions said we would die of cold 🥶🥶 we have reserves full , prices are normal and life still goes on 😅😅 . Thanks for worrying , we're fine 👍 thanks
That's funny. lol Then develop yours and Europe's military and uninvite them. Europe is 4 times the size of Russia, so stop being the sheep and become the wolf. Power respects power. Europe doesn't need US troops t just needs the will to be independent and the willingness to defend it. You're a part of the greatest willing collective of nations in history with the 2nd largest GDP. Everyone needs to drop their nationalism and think EU Collectivism. I'd vote for joining that, as opposed to being swallowed up slowly by the US. 🇨🇦 We're more politically and socially aligned with Europe but economically tied (exploited) to the US. They don't worry about running out of fossils because we can't use all we have and we 150 years worth of oil reserves and only one real export customer. Yeah we're number 3 in reserves and ahead of Russia. Let's make a deal.
Peter Zeihan points out that this ban kicks in only after the current allowable expansion of LNG exports from the US has been used up. The expansion in LNG exports that have already been approved would cover all Japanese and European LNG requirements. So it is a political move in the US, but has no real impact in the EU.
Yeah this is news for the sake of clicks. As a American living Germany, I hope Germany gets its energy security in order. It is foolish to rely too much on any one country, Russia or US, as a source so have a nice mix of import sources and focus on building out the future.
@@mddell24 Germany prefers to make a mistake, and make that exact same mistake again as FAST AS POSSIBLE. they have a whole 1/3 of the country is in the Greenie Hippy party that actively seeks to destroy Germany's capabilities
Saying it's a "US export ban" in the title is very misleading. The US is still exporting LNG, and is on pace to double exports in the next few years. The "ban" is on future LNG projects not yet already approved. All of the approved projects, and there are many, will continue as planned.
The real reason why U.S. is holding back LNG exports is low prices for it in Europe. Now the price should rise and after elections the Washington will agree to resume all projects.
@@Tabula_Rasa1JD Rockefeller was good at buying and selling Fossil Fuel Products. When someone was outselling Him, He would buy em out. Or force them out of business using any method. A lot like current US Gas Producer methods. They were only able to sell 20% of the European Gas Market before blowing up the Nordstream.
Wake up EU, US is a super colonial. Their story changes by the year, NO ONE CAN/should ever believe what they are saying today will be their story tomorrow. Hint, Russia is a neighbor! Russia keeps honoring its contracts. The world watches EU, still stuck on some "post WW11 anxiety" drug. The world has moved on, Eu needs to follow. Your colonial times are over.
The logic of German Running away from dependency on Russian Gas to dependency on American Gas beats everyone's understanding. The German economy now has to be controlled from the US white house that has never wished any other country to have a stronger economy than own unlike Russia that was seeing Germans as equal partners in development and trade. America has always managed to contain Europe with the help of Europe! Funny and sad at once
The US has benefited greatly from the Ukraine war .Not only has it boosted the export and increased the price it receives for LNG exported to Germany and other countries but it arms industry is receiving multi-billion dollar orders for combat equipment to replace the old out dated stock they have shipped to Ukraine .No wonder the US economy is doing well.
France has replaced oil dependence with energy independence and nuclear reactors. Good job France. We could only wish Germany was as smart as you were.
Well, Russia not only uses the barbaric technology of hydraulic fracturing like the United States, Russia produces a considerable part of its gas using the same drilling, which is much more environmentally friendly than hydraulic fracturing. In addition, to liquefy gas you need to spend a colossal amount of electricity, and transportation by gas tanker costs money; it is much cheaper to put gas through a gas pipeline. And the conflict in Eastern Europe was started between the two largest gas exporters, the United States and Russia for the European market, the United States raised the price of $1,000 for its LNG, but since Europe entered into cheap contracts for gas supplies from Russia, the United States decided to stir up a hornet’s nest.
@@Homo_Sapiens8bln thats exactly what I said. God loves Russia, so he gave it easily accessible resources and blessed it with environment loving societies in close neighbourhood so that a piece of pipe will do and not much technological advancement is necessary to ride.
Relying on the USA for gas seems like a bad approach. I have a better idea: create a pipeline from Russia through the Baltic Sea to Lubmin, and we'll call it the "Stream of the North.", if more energy is needed build another pipeline we can call it the "Stream 2". a win-win.
16 Feb 2024 - Biden paused approvals for LNG exports last month as his administration looked to revise environmental and economic impacts of the industry..
we tried that already, and russia cut the gasflow to Germany a month before the pipeline was damaged. Russia is not a reliable supplier. That is why Norway has become Germany's main supplier, they have 3 pipelines to Germany already.
Some people seem to have misunderstood the video, probably because it wasn't as clear as it should've been... However, note the first sentence of the summary under the video: _"The White House has paused all future liquified natural gas export projects."_ This is a (temporary) pause on future LNG expansion, which doesn't affect current supply or prices. The reason the German government is unhappy is that it delays their own future LNG expansion plans and they're (perhaps overly) keen to replace their previous piped NG from Russia with ferried LNG from the USA.
16 Feb 2024 - Biden paused approvals for LNG exports last month as his administration looked to revise environmental and economic impacts of the industry..
The real issue is whether to decrease the use of LNG or not and how quickly. Right now, LNG is necessary and Germany should diversify it's sources. As it turns out, the U.S. is the reliable supplier to the EU which is still adjusting from the problem of Russia as an unacceptable supplier. It's just the reality.
Australia has their own terrible electric grid. just like Germany. I read the news that Australians about 10 years ago refused to turn on their lights and would cook and do dishes and read by candlelight
Which country has one third of the worlds supply of LNG? Which country has a tight, corrupt free administration that provides certainty? Which country can ship to markets in Europe and Asia without bothering with the Suez or Panama Canals? Which country can ramp up or restrict supply to moderate markets in a sensible way? Which country is a reliable source and is politically advanced with the proper rule of law? Australia. Knock on our door, Germany.
I'm not sure that Germany has a choice given its lack of oil and natural gas. And using more solar power might help but Chinese companies dominate production of solar panels.
@@geofflepper3207 The more reason you diversify. Get some gas from the Russian, some LNG from US/Qatar, Solar/Winds from China, Hydro from the Swiss, oil from ME and nuclear from the French or whoever.
Methane just stays in the atmosphere for 12 years while CO2 stays there for centuries. So, even if Howarth's calculations are correct that LNG has a worse impact on climate than coal (and his article gets accepted in a peer-reviewed journal - not the case today), this will turn after phasing out natural gas. Within 12 years, we will lose the atmospheric heating effect of Methane losses. In the mid-term and long-term, LNG is the better option than coal or oil. Nevertheless, all fossil fuels need to be replaced by renewable energy as soon as possible.
Yes, the US occupied Germany (for good reason at the time), and never left, even when the need was no longer there to stay. The US citizens can cry all they want about the EU, but they can't let it go either. Can't leave their lovely bases. If only it could practice what it preaches.
@@thegreatdane3627 That's not true, China wanted a railway passing through Ukraine to Europe in their BRI. Only the shipping route remains, which might be cut off too if the middle east conflict worsens. It's like all recent events target China's trade routes mysteriously.
Not sure of what impact this will have globally. The reality is the US financing (or underwriting) global projects ( and the direct business this brings to US companies) is currently a grey area. Yes the US can stop LNG exports.....but the short & long term financial impact on growth could be hugely detrimental to the global market. It is yet to be seen what the decision will be in this regard. Keep an eye on the EXIM decision on the TotalEnergies Mozambique LNG project as a good indicator......... If the project is not given the green light.....the alarm bells should be ringing for the future.
You are not dependent on LNG. This is a lie in itself. There are terminals you can build aniware and sell to anyone. Dependency is inposible is such sistem it is truly free market. There is nothing that stops forming contracts and investing in terminals aniware.
Good call. There are no brakes on the hype train. It's time to slow down LNG expansion and avoid a boom/bust-cycle. Further expansion would only serve to lower LNG prices, which does serves neither American interests nor the energy transition. All this talk about "transition fuel" is just a distraction from net zero, which must be achieved in the next quarter century. "Quarter century" sounds like a long time, until you take into account how little has been achieved over the past 25 years. Moving to LNG as a "transition fuel" on the way to net zero is like tossing everything into a corner on the way to cleaning up your room. The mess is all still there.
@@Wolfcamp555Sure you will. For starters, biofuel will be another excuse to subsidise corn growers. Synfuel and ammonia will also power combustion engines just fine. The energy transition will also be a great excuse to invest billions in nuclear expansion. It's important to understand that you don't need to be a vegan pacifist to achieve net zero.
Make more natural gas domestically by building out biogas and methane digestors, ones that are backed by digital support. This is a very convenient way to create energy streams on demand. Do not leave money on the table.
Industry will always need LNG until we find a chemical/energy source to replace it. For the rest we should go renewable and nuclear, then when we have solved the expensive storage issue we should move towards closing the nuclear option. Germany closed em before they had a good option to replace it so keep the darn coal until you have and stop making yourself so depending on other countries(you can develop the energy consumption also, like in today's world we waste energy on things like elevators, self opening doors, advertisement signs, places light up like christmas trees 24/7... my point is that there are places to save on consumption).
When Ukraine joins the EU and Russia is finally forced back to their own land Europe should have enough LNG for the Industry so all you need to do is to get everything else working with an other source like renewable. Like put 10 solar panels on every house and then invest on windmills, even if making a temporary gas that then can be used as energy source is "wasteful" its better than adding CO2 or being dependent on outside sources. As Russia was only a trusted partner for a small time, so is USA. When it comes to "milking the cow or slaughtering it" USA is one of the most greedy. What was done to the nuclear energy was done and is very hard to undo but my point is that you need to stop taking the cheapest option and get your own system.
Germany is never going to be totally energy independent, but this lack of natural resources is one of the reasons why Germany is such an industrial powerhouse.
Don't be so pessimistic, the German new Northsea wind turbine park will ensure the equivalence of 75 big nuclear powerplants, the project is ongoing and will be 50% completed by 2030 and fully by 2050.
Having a former US Senator who is now a shill for the very energy company brought up in the story and given a megaphone is just irresponsible. Mary Landrieu is an example of everything WRONG with our politics.

yes, the independence party of the strong national republics of Rhinelander. Somehow forgot their own name, and escaped into the foothills of Rhinelander. carrying only a charmeleon. just in case they had to burn the foothills down.
How about we do this. All the "greens" who don't like LNG agree to give it up and leave the rest of us alone. They would need to stop flying for vacations, cooking, heating their homes, etc. The rest of us will do fine without them.
There are environmental activists who are hypocritical with personal activities that don't match their words but you won't be fine without them because getting rid of them won't change the fact that humans are drastically changing the world in a number of ways and there will be severe consequences from that. 2023 was the warmest year in history and data from this February is expected to show that it was the warmest February in history. It seems that humans have already lost the battle to keep global warming to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels and humans are still pumping lots of CO2 into the atmosphere so things are going to get a lot worse. It's already effecting people. Try to get home insurance in Florida and you'll find that it's very expensive and difficult to get because as businesses insurance companies can't afford to pretend that climate change isn't happening - any insurance company in Florida which pretends that climate change isn't happening will go bankrupt.
Germany just switched to LNG after abandoning Nuclear and Russian Gas and already they are being shafted. Germany can't get a break. BTW it turns out LNG has a huge Methane problem.
