Le, every post I have read on this debate has supported China. Nobody wants to buy a overpriced US or UK submarine. I wouldn't be too worried about these submarines which will not be ready for at least 20 years by which time the USA economy will have crashed and it is obvious that submarines will be obsolete and Russian hypersonic missiles will be cheaper and far more effective. I suggest China launches thousands of weather balloons so that the USA will use up all of its missiles shooting them down.

Much in the same way the US forced Europe to sanction and rally against Russia. Blew up Russia’s Nordstream pipeline. Effectively cutting off affordable gas supplies to Europe. Now Europe is forced to buy its gas from the US at a very high marked up price. Similar to South Korea, Japan, Netherland etc. That’s the game the US is playing. Everyone is just collateral.

Physically continental Australia is closer to China and Asia than to UK/USA and Australians should not try to pick quarrels with China in support of the US hegemony. Having nuclear power submarines based in Australia allowed China to now legally targets all the major Australian cities and American military installations located there with nuclear bombs, as Australia is deemed to have breached the "nuclear non proliferation treaty" it had signed and had now lose the treaty's protection.

China, on the other hand, has been involved in fewer military conflicts since World War II. The country has been involved in a few limited military engagements, such as the 1979 Sino-Vietnamese War and the ongoing conflict with Taiwan. However, overall, China has generally pursued a policy of non-intervention and has not been involved in as many military conflicts as the United States. I am from Australia, In recent times I have been worried regarding a conflict with China or the Australian involvement if Taiwan were to be invaded. Australia has said they don't support a conflict over Taiwan and Australia's response is to keep peace via dialogue. I don't see China as threat regarding only Australia and China relations. However siding with the US and their influence on our country/ "preparing for war" is what has got me concerned. How can it be that we are increasing trade and strengthen ties there, but can expect a military conflict or should be preparing for one? I think the Australian government knows going on, but has no choice. The AUKAS deal did happened and I hope they learnt a lession. In the recent Strategic Defense Review from the government they did state they will be increasing military power for Australia. I want to have good faith we are looking to strengthen our military in attempt to have independent power regarding our military. Assuming so we don't have to rely on the US for protection and therefore their influence. Also looking to strengthen ties with neighboring allies. Even if we were to increase our military and defense, at the moment its weak so we need those partners. I *hope* that this is a change for the LONG TERM of Australian interests and slowing departing from the from the US's interests which don't align with ours. But all these wars articles from Australian media make it seems like a conflict would only Australia vs China. What about the allies and others in the region? other countries near by have far worst relations with China than Australia does. Australia is the furthest in the indo-pacific, and China is our biggest partner. there are a lot of Chinese residents here and big investments from China within our country. The Chinese people living here are great. I just wanted to voice my thoughts. I can only remain hopeful as a war with China would be detrimental to our country. It just makes no sense. If you're from the US don't be offended, I'm only referring to the government. The people are good I think its great to have a strong alliance with the US in most cases, but we don't want any involvement in any unnecessary war.

What you're not portraying is the Australian public's opposition to AUKUS. Trade is resuming with China, who by the way, inflicted sanctions and shot themselves in the foot doing so. Also this govt has resumed talks with China after constant requests by us, after the damage was done by our previous govt and the Murdoch media, of which Peter Hartcher is employed.

Unfortunately there is only one senior figure in Australia speaking out against the absurd Aukus deal. Many people like me are highly sceptical, though, that anything much will come of the deal. One of the points made in the agreement is that Australia must dispose of the nuclear waste on its own territory and you have no idea how big a kerfuffle that will cause because Australian's irrational fear of China is more than matched by their irrational fear of nuclear anything.

China is not going to fight wars. They have thousands of years of being invaded and know that war only bring suffering on your citizens. Wars make usa military complex richer so why would China enable them. USA fight wars constantly overseas and majority of usa citizens are in poverty and hundred of thousands homeless. So what has wars and usa so called national security done for its citizens? Drive them into poverty!. When your country disintegrate which enemy are protecting them from? You are only adding the ingredients are your citizens to rebel. China invest in education and poverty eradication. Usa invest in weapons and wars while its citizens becomes more illiterate and everything falls apart

Very disappointing moves in Australia. Spending so much money on secondhand outdated US submarines that will never be used for any real purpose and only to arrive in 2040. China is not going to wait decades just so you can have your scrap metal by then to fight them. The money could be used for actual purposes like a train line from Melbourne to the airport proposed for decades and now cancelled due to no money!

No, Australia should be forced to have lots of immigrants unconditionally from Southeast Asia, India, and China that way there is balance of power. Australia shouldn't put its own interests over the interests of the rest of Asia, and the natural resources and coasts should not be monopolized by the 40 million children of invaders but by the billions of Asia.

I went back to Australia recently for a visit and it felt like being in a parallel universe where there’s so much talk about going to war with China everywhere you look and it feels almost imminent whereas outside of Australia there’s no talk at all from China about it. It reminded me of the country going to war in Iraq after 9/11. I watched it unfold on TV in disbelief, they were going after Al Qaeda and all of a sudden decided to invade Iraq with some bogus reason, I saw the doubt in the newscaster’s eyes as it was read out, but the next day, the entire Australian media rallied behind the war and all of a sudden it was legitimised. Watching that unfold was scary and at the time I was too young to understand what had really happened. Wishing for world peace amongst all people 🌎 🕊️

Obviously the Aukus pact brings benefits to both USA and UK but saying that China doesn't pose threats to Australian national security seems a bit unrealistic from my point of view. I mean, it's not either black or white. We have to look at the global picture and stay away from propaganda coming from both side. In April 2022 China signed a security pact with the Solomon Islands and this has been a catalyst of regional concerns about a future Chinese military presence there. There are other concern apart from a strictly military point of view, as influence operation carried out by China in Australia.

Given the reluctance of ordinary Australians to speak out, your contribution is most welcome. Thank you! Surface warships are now obsolete. As they say in the US navy - there are two types of boat, submarines and targets. Now Russia has announced a nuclear powered torpedo that can get where it is going much faster than inside a submarine. It can loiter or patrol for years. Australia needs an absolutely drastic rethink of its naval expenditures.

The Australians who disagree with the anti-China policy are being stifled by the culture of political correctness and cancel culture. Unless you are an ex-prime minister, you don't dare to speak out. Just look at that guy who was chased out of Q&A last year by Stan Grant, for voicing a different opinion about the Russia-Ukraine conflict. These days, "the west" and "free speech" is an oxymoron. This is why I keep telling people that the notion the west has freedom of speech is an illusion. In the west, they tell people they can express their opinions freely without consequences. But in reality the political correctness is the invisible boundary, and the cancel culture can destroy you if you say something that is politically incorrect. It is like pepole in the west are treading on a minefield, they never know when they might step on a mine and it blows up in their face. As a result, it makes you more fearful and less free to express your views on a subject matter. In China, the boundaries are clear, they outline clearly what you are allowed and what you are not allowed to say, so everyone knows how to navigate the system, and when they say things, they can say it more freely and courageously.
