The Vietnamese-dominated nail business in the U.S., now an $8.5 billion dollar industry, started with 20 migrant Vietnamese women in Hope Camp, Sacramento. It was Hollywood actress Tippi Hedren who came up with the idea of teaching them how to do the manicure, as it was becoming very popular in the U.S. in the 1970s. This job has helped many Vietnamese families settle down and many of them have secured wealth.
