Thiazide diuretic drugs are medications that help the kidneys get rid of extra salt and water. This is done by making the kidneys produce more urine. When you have less fluid in your body, your blood pressure goes down.
Another way to think about it is this: imagine a garden hose with the water turned on all the way. The pressure in the hose is high. Now imagine turning down the water pressure. The water will flow less forcefully, and the pressure in the hose will go down. In the same way, diuretic drugs reduce blood pressure by reducing the amount of fluid in your blood vessels. This makes it easier for your heart to pump blood, and your blood pressure goes down.
I hope this video helps your understanding of why thiazide diuretics are used to lower blood pressure!
