Video Summary:
Acetazolamide inhibits carbonic anhydrase in the proximal tubule. This results in decreased absorption of bicarbonate and sodium in the proximal tubule. yet, the diuretic action of acetazolamide is mild because most of the Na is reabsorbed in the later portion of the tubule. On the other hand, the excretion of K is markedly increased.

Thank you! Can you explain why there is selflimiting action, in Wikipedia I've read that bicarbonate (HCO3−) itself can not diffuse across the cell membrane in its polar state.
@NonstopNeuron
@NonstopNeuron Год назад
Both your confusions are already addressed in the video. The self limiting action is because eventually HCO3- level decreases in the body. So less of it is filtered. This small load can be reabsorbed even without carbonic anhydrase. And HCO3- is absorbed in the form of CO2. Watch video carefully again if needed.

Hello ! First thank you so much for this vidéo!!!! I have just one question about co2... I didnt understand when you said " co2 is lipid soluble? I thought it was a gas ( i hope you understand my question sorry for my english xD )
@NonstopNeuron
@NonstopNeuron Год назад
Gases can dissolve in liquids. Why is the confusion? Haven't you drunk carbonated drinks?
@zel2058
@zel2058 Год назад
@@NonstopNeuron yes, but when you said that co2 is lipid soluble it means thats the co2 have the ability to easily diffuse between the membrane ??
