Tombstones driver shouting "you want some more??" Is everything, the sheer spectacle, showmanship and destruction. This is why Tombstone is one the the all time crowd favourites, he just wants everyone to have fun, what a legend 🤘🏻
John Reid is a veteran of robot wars, he knows the most effective strategy against spinners is jam them up right from the get go. That fight was extraordinary. Probably one of the best tombstone fights. Tombstone has the power, but John has as much experience as Ray does and knows the strategys. It's a shame that that was the peak of Betas performance.
Was stupidly happy to see beta, as someone who grew up on robot wars it's always nice to see robot wars veterans in this. (Beta was formally terrahurts)
I really love beta as it is a hammerbot that actually does some damage, since most hammers are extremely ineffective but the problem is, is that Betas driver never uses the hammer only doing so when it is too late I think the fight between Beta and Overhaul has more uses of the hammer than the entirety of some seasons that beta was in
The driver is modest, always having fun in the battle even when he loses. We can see he loves battle bots. This video shows only these victories however, see some other video when he lost and my point was proven
from 13:59 just kept watching it over and over again. Bombshell getting torn apart like that was brutal, and Ray just laughing as parts of Bombshell go flying all over the arena and landing right next to him.
I think that when ray and tombstone competed they were the most dangerous battlebot in the game I bet when tombstone retired the entirety of of the battlebot world was both saddened but also VERY grateful and heaves a sigh of relief they didn't have to worry anymore thst their bots where going to be scrapped
Fotunately Tombstone isn't retired yet, Ray just had to take a year out for medical reasons. Since then though he's fought with the middleweight version, The Mortician, and a heavyweight vert, Stink Eye. I don't think there's much question that if we get another season of Battlebots, Tombstone will be there.
The only thing that tombstone has going for itself is that mega spinning blade… which of course does hella damage, but its wheels are totally exposed… also the power of its rotating blade creates so much rotational force that once it’s slightly out of balance it will bounce all over the place like a ping pong ball… In my opinion, tombstone has huge stability issues, and very vulnerable maneuverability. Once he looses just wheel, he’s pretty much a sitting duck…
I'd like to think of Tombstone as a boss fight, very strong but has a very fatal weakness that players can strategize around to exploit (like Beta using Tomb's sawblade against itself) which is why it's very fun to watch because of how unexpected some fights can be
Tombstone is the best. I'd love to see Tombstone go up against Carbide from the old Robot wars. That would be one hellacious battle. Dave from Carbide is with Cobalt now. I wonder if they could make it happen.
@@GUMP3RTno robot wars was created about 4 years earlier but that does not mean battlebots stole the format it’s like saying Apple TV stole the format from Amazon Prime you can’t monopolise a whole industry original commenter is a smooth brain
i want to see "tombstone" with protected shuffler-legs, which means weight bonus, while keeping the same weapon. it would be stable and be able to dish out even harder hits due extra weight and while doing so, it would remain much more stable. i doubt Ray comes back with another build tho, but maybe someone will. Carbide was almost a perfect bot, if only it had shufflers instead of wheels, it could have been much heavier.
@@razorsitch9882eh they won because of this season's poor judging rules that based essentially everything on how you use your primary weapon. Beta dominated the fight in terms of control, aggression, and damage, yet because of the rules Tombstone's one hit meant they won.
@@Aztwecas Agreed. I dont like the philosophy that bad weapons should be able to score as well as good weapons, but if it's the case, Beta did far more by constantly coralling Tombstone and just taking armor shots with minimal damage.
Bombshell in the tournament was kinda lucky, it actually lost the qualifiers and there should’ve been Minotaur imo, but hey, their strategy worked until it didn’t
Robots with hammers and lifters are usually useless against spinners, another common problem I see is that they leave the wheels exposed, I do not have any idea why there are engineers still making robots with that kind of designes
There's no regulation against side protection, but adding enough armour to be effective around your wheels means using a lot of weight that might be better used elsewhere. A lot of teams also feel that risking losing a wheel is better than risking getting armour bent into it, because a locked wheel is harder to drag around with the remaining wheels.
