Sean, I would love if you interviewed Derek from vice grip garage. My husband and a lot of men I know are absolutely in love with him and it amazes me how he has built a channel and community doing mechanical work on RU-vid. It's like a guy vlog lol.

Having a successful channel where you can sustain a living doing it is nearly impossible to pull off alone. I've been at my MotoVlog for years and realized it's not easy doing this solo. I still do because other bills take priority, but I know it won't grow like it could. I've accepted that. The hardest part is filming yourself, especially if you tell stories. You need a camera person. A good editor is important, but not everything. People don't care about Hollywood theatrics, special effects, or even music. It's the substance that matters. Why are they watching? Entertainment? Education? You have to know what you are delivering to the audience and then get better with each video. Look at the numbers, what do people want? I fight the numbers trying other things and they simply don't work. Numbers don't lie. If you don't enjoy making the content then create a channel that excites you and they will follow.

Thank you for this great interview!! I started a YT channel two years ago. It’s still a small channel. I keep learning and trying to improve. It is very difficult to do everything by yourself and not generating enough income to be able to hire someone to help. But it does help to learn new skills

I don't agree that you shouldn't make videos for yourself. If you don't enjoy what you are making, then what's the point? Sure, there should be interest in what you are doing so people are watching, but it has to be for you or you just created yourself a job and may as well not start🤷

I have busted my back for over a decade on youtube, countless hours spent on youtube, more videos uploaded and then I can count. I have Over 100,000 subscribers, and im about to be homeless due to all the changes that youtube has done to this website, due to the algorithm and due to the fact youtube only sends out 3 notifications per day, youtube USE to send out numerous and or unlimited notifications. All my hard work, all my blood sweat, and tears spent on youtube only to become homeless. Goes to show it doesn't matter how many subscribers you have anymore. 😢
