In the end Thrawn confirmed at least two things for himself: 1. Darth Vader is definitely Anakin Skywalker 2. The man he once knew is gone

That's a little depressing. Anakin was probably one of the few people he considered a friend.

An adventure where Obi-Wan and Thrawn reluctantly work together and try to troll each other would be the best piece of Star Wars media ever.

I love how reading someone to see if they're joking or being sarcastic is an actual force ability.

Seriously the canon is treating him so well. Kinda wish they went with thrawn to be the villain of the new trilogy.

The words "I know" mean so much in Star Wars. When Thrawn changes his response from "So I've been told" to "I know," it's a really poignant moment. He acknowledges and accepts that Anakin is gone, and there is only Vader.

Thrawn isn't an idiot. If he had the Force, he would rule the Empire.

Thrawn also thinks “it is him” during the last battle seeing Vader’s flying. I think that also supports him knowing that Vader once was Anakin but he accepts that Anakin has psychologically died.

Thrawn shows up in Episode 6 and he's like "Interesting lightsaber design, Lord Vader. It reminds me of a certain Graflex wielded by Anakin Skywalker many years ago..."

Actually when you think about it, Thrawn tried to bring Anakin back just like Obi Wan and Ahsoka, but with no avail.. Vader didn't even receive any flashbacks even tho Thrawn was constantly mentioning Anakin and his doings. So sad....

I finished Thrawn: Alliances yesterday. One of my favourite bits from their interactions was Vader, again questioning Thrawn of his true loyalty, sort of rolling his eyes at Thrawn when he says Vader would stop him from betraying the Empire, so it's not a smart decision. Vader basically says "I'm sure you've thought of some way to kill me, right?" and Thrawn replies, "Three ways, actually."

*Thrawn having dinner with Vader* Thrawn: **looks to Vader** Hey, Anakin, can you pass the salt? Vader: 😳 Everyone else at the dinner table: 👁👄👁

Thrawn: I didn't choose the thug life.

Thrawn trolled the whole Rebellion in every fight

So in a way Thrawn was trying to bring the good back in Anakin? Wow I have to read this book.

Making Thrawn Canon was the first useful thing Disney did since buying Star Wars. All they need now is to make Revan Canon

I have this book on my shelf. Thrawn never intenionally 'trolls' vader. The video makes out that Thrawn took the piss out of him with the skywalker translation thing. In the book, when they originally met, Thrawn is initially confused about Anakins last name, something that Anakin takes note of at the time. Later, when he explains how 'skywalker' is what the chiss call the force sensitive kids as guides, Vader actually appreciates it somewhat, thinking of it as a 'small mystery, now put to rest.' At the end of the book vader and Thrawn have come to a sort of mutual appreciation and form of trust. Vader basically comes to terms with the fact he knows the truth and says they and thrawn will never mention or discuss him again. Thrawn agrees but says that he will continue to respect his legacy. Then after some awkward silence Vader offers to promote the TIE defender program (he flies one earlier in the book and thinks the only thing better is his TIE advanced X1) and suggests some design improvements, which are actually implemented in the elite version seen in 'Rebels' which is a pretty dope tie-in.

Would of been hilarious if after translating the word 'skywalker' to Vader he started ending his sentences with Skywalker. "Prepare yourself, we are about to jump to hyperspace....skywalker"

The sheer audacity of baiting Vader is impressive, most impressive. He was savage to Anakin as well. Granted, Ani was an easier target. My favorite exchange: “She’ll recognize my style.” Anakin said. “Is falling into enemy hands part of your style?”

I like that scene on the bridge when one of Thrawn's officers started to offer a suggestion, only to be scolded by Vader, who was then interrupted by Thrawn, asking the officer to state the suggestion, then called it an "excellent idea, you may proceed," praising the officer while Vader stood there and fumed that he had been overruled and that the suggestion had been a good one.

Thrawn may very well be the most complex and fascinating character in Star Wars. Intelligent, fearless and completely dedicated. Ruthless when necessary but not evil, it's all about achieving a goal. And to top it all off, able to troll and manipulate Jedi Masters and Sith Lords alike.

Just wow, thrawn was practically telling Darth Vader "you are Anakin Skywalker" multiple times and had such superb mental control to live afterwards. Got to respect that, nuff props.

Now that I watched this a second time, this feels really sad. It's almost as if Thrawn was trying to save Anakin from what he has become to a certain extent.

Thrawn in my opinion is one of the best Star Wars Characters due to his passion for any Species art and can understand and adapt to any situation in a moments notice, If anyone could single headedly take down an intire Army with just their Great tactical mind without a doubt that Honour would go to Grand Admiral Thrawn.

I can only imagine Vader's frustration when Thrawn in his classical calm voice said that the Chis call force sensitive navigators "Skywalkers" X)

I love the canon version of Thrawn so much. I wasn’t too fond of the Rebels series, but his portrayal in it, as well as the books, was fantastic. I wish he had killed Gallius Rax instead of Sloane. I would have loved it if Thrawn had created the First Order.

They call thrawn a genius, but how hard is it to figure out palpatine's favorite jedi that he knew all his life mysteriously dies without any record, only to have Vader show up, commanding the 501st and using force powers. Such a connection requires a grand mind indeed

While I know Thrawn would never act like this but I image it went like this- Thrawn "Oh man, have you ever met Anakin? He was so AWESOME with his Jedi skill and combat prowlest?" Darth Vader "No, he's dead you know?" Thrawn "Or so I was told."

It kinda made me sad a bit near the end cause thrawn was serious and Anakin was still conflicted with everything and didn't even care about anything or anything to do with his past life, until luke came along which made me realize it's even more sad that he pushed away people close's to him not even thrawn, ahsoka or obi wan could turn him it only took his son to do it... Trolling Vader? How? He was just pushing his buttons, nothing more. The tense relationship between Vader and Thrawn was as great as I imagined it would be. Vader flying a Defender and suggesting the improvements that we later see in Rebels was awesome. I also loved the subtle ways that Thrawn let on his awareness of Vader's identity. Even though Anakin didn't come close to having the relationship with Thrawn that he had with Padme, Ahsoka, and Obi-Wan, Thrawn's "I know" moment to Vader still managed to hit me in the feels a little bit. He really respected the fuck out of Anakin.

Gotta love Thrawn...is he smiling?? Cuz he looks so cute when does.
