Thanks for the inspiring video! I wasn't sure how needed that was for the very well maintained, clean 2001 MR2 I bought this summer, I started by checking the indoor water inlet area which was indeed quite dirty. I opted for using a "trumpet cleaner" tool (wire with a small brush at the end) from the inside, and managed to flush and clean the ducts well. One side was partially clogged, got full clogged when I started to brush the duct, but having it full with water and moving the brush tool against the clog I could get it fully released and clean. Probably not as clean bottom part as with your approach, but I am worried about removing the side plastic vents with their fragile pins.
Hello. The pins on the plastic vents are actually tough. People break them because most just force pull out vents from the outside. Which is why I made the video to show that if you press pins through the fender, they can be saved. But I do understand your concern. If the brush you have can clean the drain holes and you don’t have any water drain issue, then that’s good enough. This is just an extra step on case you start getting water in the compartment. You didn't show the inlet of the drain tube? Where did you insert the wire? Couldn't you have just blown the tube out with compressed air? Also, did you tear the cover off the drain outlet insert?
Hello. The video is actually tailored to current MR2 owners who most already knows how to access the drain from the inside. I just want to give them an alternative process on how to remove the side vent to prevent breaking the tabs and clips. Most videos online would suggest just to pull the vent directly out. There are two plugs in MR2. One is the shown in video, the otherone is at the top wher the roof folds down. These are the main culprit for letting rain water in to the seating are and carpet. The one on the left side is actually right next to the ECU unit and its connectors. Horrile horrible design, as the top one is not so easy to get to.
