Just finished servicing my newly acquired 2014 Jeep Summit for the first time. Your video and explanation make this a very simple procedure. One of the easiest engine oil changes I have done in years! Thanks!
Great video, short and to the point. When data is slow on the phone I'm not going to click on the 20 minute long oil change video to figure out where the oil filter is for instance. Thanks again, really appreciate straight forward information!
Hello Good afternoon, Thank you for the Video, I have a question, is it true that the diesel engine in a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee summit has 2 engine oil filters?
Hello! I was wondering if you could give a long term review on your JGC EcoDiesel. I plan on getting a 2016 Summit trim, also EcoDiesel. Been doing my research on this vehicle and I’ve seen a lot people say more bad things and then good things. The majority had a 2014 model and I was told that the 2014 and 2015 are the same and that they started doing changes on the 2016 and above. I haven’t seen much info on a 2016 model. Point is, I was wondering if this a vehicle that spends a lot of time getting fixed or if it is reliable lol. I’ve heard that the main issue they have is the DPF being dumb or going bad easily or just in general, always having problems with it. But yeah, hoops to hear from you soon
I bought a used 2016 Overland High Altitude with abt 33K miles on it. I’ve had it almost 4 years and really like it. I primarily bought it as a tow vehicle for a 4000# travel trailer. My previous tow was a Honda Ridgeline. It would pull ok, but only got 7.8mpg at 60mph. The diesel gets about 12mpg at 70mph, is much quieter, & much more plush. Only trip to the dealer was to handle a recall. My only complaint is that the air suspension is calibrated too soft, but I’m a sports car guy and like a taut ride.
Hi, when refilling the oil, I saw on jeep forum people saying that 4 quarts of the oil needs to go down the oil filter tube and then wait 30 minutes? I am fairly certain that they dont hold my car for 30 minutes in the shop. It appears that you put all the oil down the fill, is that correct? Are you aware of any requirement for that?
great video by the way, very helpful. I have always changed the oil on my gas engines and my diesels have always scared me off for some reason.....this is simpler than most of my gas vehicles. :)
Hi I just saw your video. I have a question if you dont mind me asking. Did the dealer reprogram the computer to accept the new Rotella T6 oil? My dealer has refused to do mine. He said its for 2016 and above that get the new oil spec and computer reflash. Ive been using Pennzoil Plat euro L 5w-30. Its a great oil and way cheaper than the Mobil 1 ESP.
Stephen Smith Yes, dealer cannot flash or manipulate the oil change indicator in order to handle an oil other the one recommended by the manufacturer (5w40 satisfying API CJ-4). But the really odd situation is that of the FCA dealer in my country (Morocco) who use Selenia oil 5w30 satisfying API-CF requirement, which is an OBSOLETE oil and does not satisfy the manufacturer’s requirements.
I've had my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel for the previous year and a half. No issues as of yet. I do a mixture of city and highway driving. My only advice is that if you're going to do a lot of city driving then buy a DPF additive as it gets clogged up quickly, and try to use OEM parts/ oils or dealerships approved oils as bearing damage is common when the wrong oils are used. Other than that it's an amazing car when compared to its other competitors
Yes, it's a great vehicle, but sensitive to scheduled maintenance. As long as you are on top of oil changes, fuel filter changes and Diesel conditioning in very cold months, should be great. I average 24 mpg combined
Thanks Chad. I've had my '16 JGC Overland Diesel for exactly a year now (it was Dealer owned in 16 and early 17 due to EPA hold) Dealer did the first change for free and said they would do subsequent for $190. Yikes - After 20 years of Diesel VW's and doing my own maintenance, this could be a cakewalk. So far I've done 2 oil changes 10K apart and your video is priceless. Thank you. And at 52K miles, my Diesel runs like a top. 25.2 MPGs in mixed driving and hwy speeds usually 80-85 MPH. I averaged 28.6 MPGs on a recent R/T from PA to Florida - All highway with 4 passengers, loaded with suitcases in back and a roof box on top. I am so bloody pleased!!
Chad Lowers can you elaborate further on the major fix you had please ? I am considering stopping servicing my 2018 Overland at the authorized dealer and do it through other means, and this will cancel the manufacturer warranty. So your experience will be very helpful to me. Thank you !
Do you know the part number for the rubber O-ring on the drain plug vs the crush washers? I'm having trouble finding the original OEM rubber O-ring. Do you know the proper torque specs for the oil drain plug? I've always had a problem with mine leaking since new.
How much should a typical mom and pop service center be charging for parts and labor on this? I know it takes a more expensive/special oil filter and 2 gallons of synthetic so it should be more than the average oil change, but how much more? Thanks
Chad Lowers I can get the oil and filter off amazon for about $60-70 total. Is it unheard of to bring the parts to a mechanic and just pay labor? I see no reason for this tremendous upcharge on oil and filter.
