Really appreciate this, I just took my 2015 Summit ED in for an oil change for $175 not even realizing I could just use the air suspension as a means to DIY. They wanted $300 to do the fuel filters but I bought the pair and necessary tools for under $50 and will keep this video in mind for my next oil change as well.
I have a 2014 for over one year been in and out the repair shop for the whole year with every engine problem you can think finally took to dealership and they will replace engine thank god I’m still under warranty. You gave great knowledge on how to maintain a beast.
I bought a 2014 JGC Eco-Diesel Summit model new so I have gone through the whole emissions saga and all the recalls of this vehicle. I have about 88K miles on it and overall apart from many many recalls and 3 glow plug failures, it has been a very reliable vehicle. The performance and fuel mileage are excellent and it's capabilities as a SUV are a class above a typical SUV in this segment (especially towing). Having said that, if you do not maintain this vehicle like a fanatic, you will experience expensive issues. 5k oil changes are a must because of the EGR gases contaminating the oil as well as Fuel filters every 20k. Also DEF has gotten 300% expensive since I bought the vehicle and the DEF consumption has increased because of the new EPA approved software. Overall I love this vehicle but this will be the last light duty Diesel for me. The additional cost of Diesel, DEF, Fuel filters, expensive oil and all the funky emissions crap is just not worth it.
I am using 2-stroke LiquiMoly semi-synthetic oil instead of diesel additive. 300 ml (1:100) on every tank of fuel. Costs close to nothing, great lubricant, burns ash free, great for the HD pump and injectors.
@@chrisc5574 Really? I do an oil change about every 7500 miles and have used amsoil since the first. I haven't heard of anyone having that problem before
@@battlehero-qx6on ya I don't know for certain that it was the oil just never thrown any codes using Rotella T6. It was a big enough problem with other coded that we needed the dealer to force regen, change the oil, and remove the codes
Hi. I just saw your video! Great video too. Mine is a 2015 ecodiesel and I use Pennzoil euro L 5w-30. There is a lot of debate out there on which oil to use but my manual says use ms-11106 approved oil and thats what I use. I got over 150k on my ecodiesel and it runs like a champ! I also change it every 5000-6000 miles.
In the UK the spec is now 5W-40, I think Jeep changed the spec because a lot of the Eco-Diesels were spinning their main bearings. The thicker oil was meant to help prevent this but it still happens. Very impressed with your miles, many don't get to a third of that. We're selling our 2014 GJ as fed-up with reliability, cost of parts and the risk of main bearing failure. Hope yours keeps going strong.
Funny he mentioned his wife thought the engine is loud. I did a lot of driving for work and when it was time to get a new jeep the sales guy knew of my driving habits as this would've been my 5th jeep. I usually go for the HEMI, however he introduced me to the Summit eco-diesel. I mentioned that diesels were stinky and noisy. He lined up a new Hemi and the eco-diesel side-by-side. I was shocked that the eco-diesel was quieter and not stinky. I'm on my third Eco-diesel now. Too bad Chrysler has discontinued these.
That's one thing Chrysler benefited from there venture with fiat in Diesel engines ....fiat make some of the best Diesel engines in the world...most diesel cars in Europe with Peugeot and fiat engines go more than half a million miles...
Car off. Hit the start button twice (do not put foot on brake. Do not start engine). Floor it three times. Hit start to turn off. Finally hold start and brake to start car.
excelente video, me ayudarias a conseguir el filtro de combustible para el mio, de preferencia en la marca MOPAR?, estuve viendo por AliExpress pero dudo que sean originales, te lo agradezco.. saludos desde Perú
@@INFINITE-AMMO it's easier to look up videos on youtube about ecodiesel diffuser cleaning and map sensor. Some good videos on it. The cleaning of the MAP sensor helps the computer with fuel/air and the diffuser is usually full of soot and can get plugged.
Excellent video. I can tell you were a auto tech nerd wouldve gone far. What did you end up doing with the jeep? Just got the GDE tune-Night and day difference regards to performance.
Thank you! We ended up trading it in on another Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 gas engine. I sure did enjoy it while we had it, I wish I had some time to put a tune on it too!
Agreed, its a shame really since the technology has improved so much. Makes me wonder what the manufacturers could do if they just focused on power and economy instead. Thanks for watching!
are you pulling the filter prior to the drain plug? It should speed up the draining time or I just haven't noticed the time since I'm always doing multiple things.
GamersLife, I don’t think I am. I do remove the oil fill port cap to eliminate any crankcase vacuum but I don’t usually pull the filter cap until after I drain it. I’ll have to give that a try and see if it makes a difference!
@@thatlldogarage ya, i think it will help as I pull it prior to the drain. Hope it does help, whole point of this crazy internet thing sharing ideas and all. haha
I have a 2018 JGC with 83,000 miles with an ecodiesel. When I change the oil I drop the drain plug, and while it's draining I change the oil filter. I've never seen "2 or 3 cups" drain out after the initial drain because I'm not looking at it. I can only go by how many quarts I put back in and usually it's right at 8 quarts to hit the full mark on the dipstick with the filter removed while draining.
hey dude. thinking about getting one of these. currently have a 2005 Grand Cherokee.. its been nothing but great (except the MPG).... would you recommend?
