@BarnaculesNerdgasm I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! My Aunt passed away this week. FELT SO BAD AND DOWN LATELY, Watched your video and made my day alot brighter! Thank You for THAT!!!
DUDE, I never know how simple it was to make something basic in 3d. This video helped me get my son interested in 3D design. He made a duck thing in Tinkercad. He was amazed that his design could be made into a actual object. Thanks Barnacles.
Im so dedicated to watch your video's that my internet went out and i simply started tethering from my phone internet at like speeds of 0.50mb/s. Anyway's jerry keep up the good video's that you have always made.
Loved the video as always Jerry, I'm never disappointed when watching your videos. Everyone at Vlogger Fair is going to be completely blown away. . Keep up the good work Jerry!
If you're in school and have a school email address, you can get the educational version of all of the autodesk programs, which are nearly identical to the full version.
Try partially paint. Pour paint just a little bit on table, then dip those coins to it. If you have just enough paint, only edge and the VF-logo will get painted.
the thing about .stl's is that they are not meant to work on them with a modelling program, although with some offer limited functionality. What you want to do is model and export into .stl for the only purpose of 3d printing, or machining etc. I recommend getting into Rhinoceros since it's one of the most easy to use programs for modelling out there and very well equipped aswell. Meshmixer is also nice to play around with .stls with no major precision needs.
Your videos are really cool , I have now a daily routine to watch your videos and the one about Robin Williams was really honest and amazing , keep up the good work !
Hey Baracules, If you want a free but powerfull 3D program there is Blender. It's an amazing software, I think it's under the GPL. The interface is a little bit crazy but once you've learned it it's just kicking ass. And there is a great comunity around it and tons or resources online. You can use it for creating object for printing it, creating films and 3D animations, event assets for video games. Also everything inside blender is scriptable using Python!
It feels like 3D printing has such a learning cruve :/ I'd be pleased with a mainstream company coming out with a mainstream printer with really user-friendly software :P
For anyone wondering, 3DS Max is available for students, student trial lasts for about 3 years and comes with all of the bells and whistles that the paid version has. (Apart from some super advanced stuff)
Really nice video, I wich I had a 3d-printer tough =p P.S: Please 3d-print one without the coin around it I wanna see what it looks like the BV logo emebeede in the iris. Hope you understand what I mean :D like it was at 5:00. Greetings from Belgium
Awsome video. I never knew that u can make 3d models from photoshop!! What a time saver.. thanks man. We need more video like that. Some complicated cool stuff.
Until now I seriously though printing 3d was just so complicated but it seems reasonably easy. And yeas I know the coin is not the hardest to print but it can't get as complicated as I thought beforhand.
In 3ds Max, instead of choosing Boolean, choose ProBoolean. Then you can select every object to be booleaned together without having to do another Boolean on top of the previous Boolean. This allows you to easily edit them as it is all in 1 stack of the modifier. You can also change the operation from Union to Intersection, Subtraction, and reorder the operations without having to redo it from scratch. If you have Adobe Illustrator as well, you can do an image trace of the image to get a vector shape. Export that out as Illustrator 8, so 3ds max can then import that shape. Now you are able to add a extrude modifier on top of that shape and keep everything editable. Using these within the ProBoolean will allow you to change anything you want as long as you don't collapse the stack. And if you are looking for a better software package that is fairly inexpensive and more geared towards engineering, check out Rhino 3D. It is hard to get the hang of at first, but its spline, Boolean, and surfacing tools blow away anything found in 3ds max. You can easily add a bevel or fillet in Rhino 3D after doing a Boolean, not so much in 3ds max.
Always enjoy your videos! This may have been posted already: I like using Sketchup for basic 3D modeling. There is a plugin for importing and exporting .stl files. More importantly, Sketchup Make is free!
Dude.. kindred souls! Dig the videos, can't wait to go home and spend hours watching more. Keep up the great work! BTW, what version of photoshop is that?
@Barnacules Yes, you are doing a good job! :) I was just wondering that, what if tou printed just the iris and the "VF" logo without the solid part. Would the "VF" logo fold those little shutter parts of that iris? Greetings from Finland! Beduiini
Try adding a few drops of acetone to a beaker, then add the coins a small distance above the acetone, doing this, the acetone will vaporize causing the plastic to become slightly softer, briefly, after hardening, this will give the coins a smoother surface, and shine. WARNING! Do not leave any 3d printed object alone with this process, if you wait to long the plastic will sag and become deformed!
Hi, Jerry instead of using PS i recommend you use Illustrator. Not only it helps you with variation of point editors the ".ai" is compatible with 3dmax directly. after that all you need to do is Extrude and convert it to editable Mesh or poly.
You should make some 3d printed coin for your channel to sell or other 3d printed items, some that is representing your channel so others can collect and you make a little money on the side.
Instead of selecting both sides faces, you could just have selected the front ones. then you didnt have to do the other weird thing when you try to make back flat again, and end up with a hole :) and by that remove the netFabb step.
Barnacules Nerdgasm I did a similar video to this starting with Blender on my 2nd channel. I won't link it here unless you want me to Jerry. One of the great things about Blender (other than being free) is that it come with a set of 3D Printing tools. I never need to use Netfab. Thanks for the video Jerry :)
true but its part of an ecosystem that is not free plugins etc. and why subscribe to something where the goal is to rope you in and make you pay for it eventually, the reason "free to play" games are mostly terrible
Barnacules Nerdgasm Great video as always! Love all of the 3D prints you do! Hoping to get my own here soon. I was thinking I'd suggest a hobby that is very family friendly that I think you would enjoy. It is called Geocaching and can be found at geocaching.com. To summarize, you use a handheld GPS or phone to take you to sites where people will hide containers called "caches." Once you are within say 30 feet, you begin to look for the container which contains a logbook for you to sign, and trinkets to trade. It can be anything from a 5 foot walk from the car, to a 5 mile hike up an overgrown trail. I just figured I'd suggest this as it as I've participated for a few years now and it is a very cool adventure.
You should try soildworks for making simple things like this I feel like it would be great, although idk how much it costs... I got it for free from my school
I love your show very much, you are very inteligent and talented person, and you are freaking good with programming. I'm amateur programmer, VBA, C++, C#, Micro C and I use MATLAB because I'm an mechanichal engineer. I just wanted to say, that it would be good, if you implement for example Solidworks, and do more 3D modeling in your 3D printing episodes. For example you could create your own solution to some problem (I saw that you are very good at improvising, so I think you would be very good with doing your own 3D projects, mechanisms and so on). I mean, you would not use Solidworks for commercial purposes, and you would give them free commercial, so you wouldn't have to buy it. And Solidworks have implemented 3D printing via Windows 8.1 for 3D printers which have a driver for Windows 8.1. In your own defence you done it, yeah, it is a way, and you can use it, but let's face it, it is too complicated, you used 3 or 4 softwares in this video for creating a coin. Don't think I am some hater and criticizer, i think you are the best, and I really like your videos, so I just wanted to recommend to get this thing you are doing to a next higher and more professional level (trust me, it is even easier than using 3 or 4 softwares). I think that this is something people would like to see, and for me personally best episodes of nerdgasm are those where you do something technical. Codegasm is very very good, and Jerry rigged is very good (but I personally would like to see little more professional approach to a problem - which I think you would be good at). Best regards.
Either way. I'm pretty sure he has alot of money saved up for a rainy day. If hes smart enough to be working at Microsoft for the majority of his life, I'm pretty sure he knows how to spend his money. Keep in mind, he's buying things for his viewers, for something we get to watch.
Hello there Barnacules Grate Vlog as always :) i have a Question. you do alot of 3D printing. what is the cost for each print (coin)? what did the terminator head cost to print?
