I agree that if the pH is stable, you really don't have to worry as much unless they are wilds.

I keep my Discus at 7.9 and they are all Hybrids. I have had them now for almost 4 years. No disease or signs that pH is to high.

pH is different almost everywhere. You can also use a buffer if the parameters are to high. That is what I do.

You have it exactly right. pH stability is important and really the biggest factor with hybrids.

What's the longest you have had rams live and have you noticed any difference in lifespan of German blues vs the Bolivia gold's? I'm asking as there seems to be a acceptance narrative pushed the blues only live about a year and the reason is due to store getting them from suppliers who use hormone treatments. Your thoughts?
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
I have had mine three years but did not get them from a store. Mine came from a breeder friend. Bolivians I have never kept.

@@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto Thanks for the reply. I use a small I- pad and have some eyesight issues but noticed a book on your shelf about president Kennedy. I enjoy reading and if you find the fish are not providing a calm to life check out senator Kennedy, you might enjoy his sense of humor.

Does sand keep the pH down i hard that it good for live plants to can you help me with this
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto

Sand is not the best substrate for growing plants, but you can plant swords, Java Fern etc. Sand effects pH just like any soil or rock, but will be a subtle effect. Once you have Substrate, Rock and plants in place and you begin your cycle just let it run for the 4-6 weeks needed to complete the Nitrogen cycle and get you tank loaded with good bacteria. Be patient and let nature work for you! Enjoy … #ph #discus #fishtanks #aquatics

My fish tank water levels for no2 and no3 are very high, I’ve done many water changes and the levels stay the same, I’ve put in a live plant but still isn’t doing anything, all my fish seem fine but, no signs of stress, what do I do? I have a 76L fish tank with 7 fish, everything was good when I got the fish until I started feeding bloodworms and the water went all weird and start getting brown algae on the glass, tested the water level and no2 and no3 are very high, I am really concerned
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
Did you cycle your tank really well with a complete Nitrogen Cycle? If not throwing live or even frozen blood worms in the tank can have a negative impact on these readings. Brown Algae is normally a sign of a tank in its early stages. How are your Ammonia, Nitrites, and Nitrates? By the way, a solo plant will do nothing to reduce these levels you need lots of plants to move the dial on some readings.

In the Amazon rain forest the water has a ph of 3 to 5.
@aquaticconceptsbringingwaterto
It is about stability of ph. None of these fish have ever been near the Amazon unless you are buying wilds
