Thank you SO much for this. Just recharged my stock AC setup in my '90 Camaro with the Ford orifice as suggested. 33 degrees at the vent on max in 86 degrees ambient sitting still. First time it's made cold air in 17 years!

Third Gens have never be known for having the greatest a/c. I replaced the whole system on my 84z and still my a/c sucked. I switched from electric fans to mechanical clutch fan ftom an 87 monte carlo ss. It fit right in with minor modifications. Car runs cooler, does not drain power, and my a/c actually works better. I will seal my evaporator shown in this video so i can get colder air. Great video thanx for the info!

So I sealed my evaporator just like in the video, man, i can feel the difference! My a/c is actually blowing cold air. When I replaced my evaporator I never sealed it and it was the reason for me not getting enough cold air! I'm very happy and enjoy driving my 84z now! Thanx LsxMatt for putting informative videos for us third gen enthusiasts!

Great content in the vid! Just a side note to help you and anyone else out that has the older cars, the 88-92 cars have a different high side hard line that has a pressure switch where you put yours but the service port and orifice tube are up right next to the air drier/accumulator. You can put that line in the place of what you have now and it will be much easier to service the system.

I dig the long videos Matt...they make me wanna swap something for myself other than just for customers at my shop haha....btw gotta say Coldhose kicks ass, I used them in my "Arctic chiller" design for super cooling my lsa supercharger coolant and never had an issue with any of the kits I sold using their hoses...they are insanely fast for shipping too that's the main reason I keep using them.

@lsxMatt This is a great video, but there is one mistake. When using a fixed displacement compressor like your Sanden, the A/C request signal from the dash control needs to go through the existing low pressure switch before going to the PCM. The low pressure switch is needed to prevent the evaporator freezing up. The LS1 Camaros didn't need a low pressure switch because they used the V7 variable displacement compressor that internally sensed the low pressure and adjusted flow to meet demand.

Hey you should get the heater valve ac Delco 15-5533 it will work with the 3ed gen vacuum selector and when on full cold it acts as a bypass so pump still circulates. It's the valve from a 99 k1500 and many other vehicles.
@Avi8tor857
@Avi8tor857 6 лет назад
A little more info in case some finds this trying to solve their problem. Right now your air is going through the hot heater core and the AC box add this valve and the heater core will not be getting hot water. The 4th gen uses a flapper door to divert the air and water all ways flows through the core thirdgen shut off water flow to the core. But ls pumps require the heater core ports to flow. This valve allows this.

First of all, love your third gen! Beautiful car! I would like to ask, how did you wire your dual Ls fans to your camaro! Did you use the stock wiring to connect them? Or did you buy a wiring kit? My Camaro is a 1984 z28. It is equipped with a single electric fan. I would like to upgrade to a Ls dual fans from a fourth generation Camaro. I just don't know how to go about wiring the dual fans. Any help i would appreciate it! Thanx and keep the videos coming!
@danielstark8258
@danielstark8258 4 года назад
its very likely you can split the line and add onto it, the cool part about electric motors is that they cant pull power they are not being supplied without damage, if you split the line and run it to both, worst case scenario is that your fans don`t spin as fast, that could even be changed however if you put a higher amp fuse. just make sure the cables are wide enough to handle it

Great videos - thanks. I just opened the evaporator in my untouched 1985 camaro sport coupe to replace it for R134 conversion. My evaporator has a screen glued onto the drivers side with glue like the residue you can see on your evaporator. Looks like someone has had your evaporator out and has removed the screen. Perhaps if was used to filter out leaves and debris from getting into the plenum?

Is there a particular reason why you chose those sensors? I was debating on using the sensors from the truck "year/model" and get them through rock auto (crazy cheap for each 1).. My swap came from a 2005 truck (using a similar compressor) as you into a 95 c1500 T56 conversion. Not sure whether to order what you posted up or use what went into the vehicle that my transplant came from into a 10 year old truck.. The parts you mention look close/identical (small differences), 1 sensor is a 3 pin (high side) and the other for the dryer/accumulator is a 2 pin. ECM is a P59 DBC, Holley turbo manifold (7875 Gen 3) and Holley cooling manifold drive system (pieced it together much cheaper than the whole package saved almost $1300), air is all that's left, hard lines and rubber lines are en-route. Thanks for the content!! Love the channel!

Great vid man... couldn't you use the 3rd gen A/C harness and just send the a/c request signal to the LS PCM? I'm using a Holley Terminator X, so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. But my car was not a factory a/c car, so I swapped in the harness and control module from a 90 model camaro. Hoping to use the thirdgen relay and switches with the sanden compressor. We'll see... thanks for the vids!

Last question hopefully. I haven’t been able to get a straight answer from parts sellers. If I replace the evaporator, the condenser, and accumulator with brand new parts that have never had r12 In them, can you run 134 or do the parts need to specify 134 compatibility? Some parts on Rockauto like some of the accumulators and evaporator don’t specify 134 compatibility. I did find the spectra parallel flow condenser on there and it does state 134 compatible

Ok, so question for you matt. Currently have a 89 GTA that im wanting to upgrade the system to 134A. But my blower blows at defrost only. Could be the diaphram under the dash or the vacuum line correct? Is there an upgrade to this style system that is decently easy?
@lsxmatt
@lsxmatt 5 лет назад
Yea theres a hard vacuum line that runs from the hvac harness in the bay over to a port on the intake manifold. On my car it goes to that black plastic box by the brake booster. Make sure that line has vacuum first. But yea, defrost is the default blower mode, so if you have no vacuum to the diaphragm in the dash, it wont switch.

hey I have a question I wanted to know did you use the AC recognition wire to stepler throttle up when your compressor comes on?
@deankay4434
@deankay4434 4 года назад
@G B > On the “LS” engine, regardless if drive by cable or drive bace cabe, the A/C button inside is a request to the compressor to come on. The PCM looks at the 3 wire “Trinary” switch to see if pressures are too high to allow A/C operation. The on-off switch at his compressor shuts off when pressures are low (Evap Freezing) or on to start cooling. The PCM will maintain programmed warm idle, colder air fast idle and back out the IAC for slightly higher idle warm if A/C is allowed. If drive by wire, same thing only it uses the internal motor of the throttle body to run a little faster. No additional switches or wiring is required. Just let your re-programmer know if you have A/C or not to enable this function or at least double check to make sure it is on. They can raise the idle for all functions warm if running a high lift cam or A/C. If the power steering high pressure line is equipped with a fitting for a PCM sensor, idle will rise when hitting lock or end of travel for the P/S as the internal p/s valve drags down the engine as well. Hope this helps! ASE Master Tech since 1978 - Retired
