My teacher once told me about one of her students that was applying to a college, and his interest stemmed from the fact that director of the lion king attended that school. However throughout the essay he misspelled lion to loin, and you can imagine how that must’ve looked.
Yeah. I once had an extremely strict English teacher in 8th grade. Never accepted late work, was harsh on her grading, and gave loads of homework daily. But, if you went to her for help before or after school, she was super nice about it and gave you some pointers in the right direction or whichever assignment it was that you needed help with. I got at least a letter grade higher each time, and I got more out of the assignment in the end.
I have the exact same physics teacher. Lots of people don’t like her because she’s quite strict and makes us do lots of supposedly unnecessary things to get higher marks in our exams. However she would be welcoming if you wanted to find her before or after school for help. I used to not like her but then I started using her advice and it made me so much better and actually physics is now my favourite subject
We had a an American college professor as our highschool English teacher. He’s around 65. His class was the hardest class especially since English is either everyone’s second language or third. You’re doing a miracle if you get above 95%. I got a 194 points on a 200 points worth essay and apparently other teachers told me he was always talking about how good of a writer I was. He even complimented me during class and he has never done that to a student before. I had that essay on my wall of awards.
As a straight A student, I can say that running essays by your teacher, asking question, and accepting feedback are some of the top ways one can get amazing scores in school.
I got my English teacher to review my entire essay, she gave me feedback, I fixed everything she told me and even spotted some of my own errors that she missed…..and still got a B Edit because this is very heated for some reason: yes the essay could have been better, now that I'm taking more advanced english classes I see some of the mistakes, however this teacher was generally not good seeing as how it was an advanced class and she gave us the same materials as the regular class and was easily persuaded by the class to change due dates, additionally she had not taught in several years due to working as a principal at another school. However I was upset because it was grammatical things that she pointed out and I lost the most points on things like that. She took points of for accidentally having an extra space (the essay was typed). I don't have the best depth perception so sometimes it's hard for me to tell where the spacing errors are and I wouldn't have been upset about her taking the points off if she had pointed them out when I asked her to check my essay.the other most common reply was the typo I had in my original comment. It was most likely didn't realize I had already typed out the word therefore I typed it twice. Thank you, have a nice day/night and stay hydrated.
I remember when the teacher was complaining to herself that all the essays she reads are just the exact same. So I took that opportunity to making my essay as unique as possible by taking a completely controversial opinion and going for it. She gave me an A and started paying attention to me more in class
I also had a teacher fully correct my introduction and give me her take on how I should structure it. She then later wrote me up for plagiarism citing "Bro, you copied my homework"
For a quiz, tell your teacher that you’ve been working really hard and ask what they think you should focus on studying for the quiz. They’ll basically tell you everything that is on it
This is such a great thing you're doing. Teaching others how to be good at school. Because I think we can all agree that education is the most important thing in our youth.
i'm really lucky that i had an understanding english teacher at my school, she was really nice to all of her students. she's the reason why i'm good at english.
My teacher always tells my class to do the body paragraphs first so the introduction and conclusion will be much easier after knowing everything you've written about in your essay. So useful to me
Honestly, not a bad idea since it can make it clear what important things your body paragraphs are talking about. So you can easily summarize the main points and include them in your intro and conclusion paragraphs.
One time, we had study time with my science teacher. Since our test was coming up soon and she wasn't really doing anything. I asked part by part of the things we learned, asking which ones were important and if they were going to come up on the test. She didn't clarify most of them. But the ones she did, really helped. I had a 192/200
My English teacher was just like this and many people hated her, but the real reason why she was being so strict was to prepare us for the next grades. She’d always remind us about how whatever we’re learning will be needed the next year. Because of how strict she was, the next year in English was a breeze and I got a really good mark
My cousins said that Harvard tends to accept people that have some kind of sob story in their essay because they want to make kids’ lives better by giving them a chance. Is this true?
Yes sir, it is true, this was a huge rumor back in 2017 when I was in Harvard in the state of Ohio where things were really strict and hard to get into, luckily I got in from my store in my communititive essay which was very depressing according to my scholars.
@@mimi_rowe8406 hello im 5 years old i have 2 types of cancer, im an orphan, my mother died a few minutes ago. i have a severe condition of my nervous system and my mother didn't even come to my birth. * cries and then acts horribly and still wins*
Does Dru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rw4z-rSwNjY.html, it is a video I found online talking about the origins of COVID, and that the video talks about the west is responsible for COVID, I don’t know if it is true but this video was 10 years ago, and it predicted many things that have become true since then. I love America, but I am with humanity if this is true, if you guys can share this it would be amazines
I had a strict English teacher in 8th grade. I tried my best in her class and I did good on the homework’s, but her tests and essays were hard. In the beginning of the 9 weeks, my grade dropped to a D after some bad grades. I asked her for help and eventually I raised it up to a B. However, since she knew that I only wanted As and so did my parents, she raised my 90B to a 93A for my effort. I did good the rest of the year as well. She probably helped me write really good essays in my high school years (which I am in now) and her teaching allowed me to a get a much higher act score in the future. I hated her at the time, but now I appreciate her a lot.
For me, I sucked so bad in my essays up to my junior year of high school, it never worked out and because of that I always struggled with my Portuguese classes(the main essays were always in Portuguese not in English). Then I started reading a lot and putting what I read into my essays, both on what to do and what not to do, it helped a lot!!!
For my first really big essay my teacher gave a lot of help, yet I only utilized it for one paragraph that I thought looked a little wonky. I ended up getting a B, which isn't bad, but I had a A+ in the class, my first one in ELA, and I put it down to a B+. Always Use these materials!
Idk how you guys have “strict teachers”, over here in South Australia every piece of work is moderated by at least one other teacher that’s specifically trained to moderate that particular assignment. It removes all the irregularities of teacher marking
Hey Gohar I have watched every video of your. Please give some tips for international students (Indian specifically). You guys in the us have lots of resources and enrichment opportunities but what can an Indian do to stand out. Waiting for your reply
I have a strict teacher and she suck’s at giving feedback. This makes people have to go to her over and over again since she’s never clear, and she get frustrated at the students when they ask more times. I literally hate my English teacher to my gut
"All I did was one day after school I went up to her room...." I hate my mind for imagining what happened next. Add the fact that he got A after that lmfao.
Getting feedback from teachers on my essays was always the best part, because I could see what I was doing right, what I was doing wrong, and how to improve and make it better. So many people in my class used to complain about getting feedback and that they found it useless, but I loved it
My rlly nice English teacher has left the school bcs she realised teaching wasn’t for her. She brought us all chocolates and I aced every essay bcs of how good she was. We have now got a rlly strict English teacher I’m dying rn
All my english teacher is busy and always not in class. But when they are in class, it is REALLY FUN. This happened for 3-4 years. Even without much learning, most of us still manage to get A+ because the exam is fairly easy. But now, we got a new english Teacher, and she is kind and fun too. She tell story ALOT. There one time she go from talking about the hills in our school to her experience going to New Zealand. She told alot of story but she manage teach alot too while telling us all sort of story. 10% Teaching 90% Storytelling but i learn more in those 2 months(because of quarantine) than my previous 2 years.
This also helps because the teacher will have a harder time grading it worse because this is what the teacher caused or they’ll just get fed up and tell you you took their feedback wrong whilst not telling you the right way
That's wonderful that they gave so much feedback. That's a good teacher. I did a near perfect presentation once and they said they had to nitpick to find things wrong with it. He gave criticism to help everyone help everyone learn. However he asked everyone if they wanted criticism beforehand. So each person could choose to get feedback or not. He was the harshest teacher in the whole school that I was aware of. Notorious. But he loosened up on the year I had him because he realized he was too strict and wasn't helping students by being too harsh. So he dialed it back and tried to understand how everyone was feeling at home and trying to respect anxiety. He gave people an option for a little bit off the grade of the presentations to not have an audience except him. So people with social anxiety wouldn't have to deal with crowds of students. He really tried to be a better teacher. He made too many students cry I think. Or maybe just got some feedback somewhere that made him rethink his methods and attitude.
I actually tried this and my teacher gave me 2 types of essays: Professional and straightforward other one was a enjoyable and enthusiastic essay. My essay was good for business means because it was professional and straight to to point. He told me to use figurative language because that would add enthusiasm.
At the beginning of the year, my teacher said she will occasionally give bonus points on an essay if it is good enough, but this is very rare and your essay has to be very good and well written to get the extra points……….I have gotten them on 4 or 5 essays this year, and we are only halfway through the year. I am aiming for double digits at this point
My comp teacher was pretty strict with grading. Many people did not do so good on the essay, so the day I had a research paper assigned, I was nervous since it was the final, so I forced myself to talk to the teacher after school, and boom, I was one of the very few who got an A on my paper. Sometimes just talking to your teacher's guys helps in the long run and leaves a good impression that you are interested in the class and your grade.
I have a English teacher in my 10 honor literature class. No one has an A as an average (unweighted) and everyone failed the first essay. I finally started getting As and I felt so happy! She helped me improve my writing tremendously.
Yes, it is true that as an english literature student, back in school days, I wrote snd practiced for hours and hours on how can I write which will please the teacher, but failed. On listening to her ideas and intros, it really became a piece of cake. A little bit of hints on how she wants the essay to be and it really will be the greatest. That is why it is important to listen to the teacher while she provides lectures. Just follow the way the teacher likes it, not your way.
Even with less strict teachers, this works. By asking for the teacher's feedback, you can see what they want from the essay and how they want it written, meaning its free points for you after a quick revision and these points can cushion your class grade if you mess up on a test. If you have a talent for writing a decent quality essay really quickly, it helps, as you still have plenty of time to revise it. Better yet, if you have a parent who's pretty good with writing and literature related topics, ask for more feedback. Its an easy way to finesse an A on your essays or creative writing assignments. This strategy can also work with history or science projects or papers.
Intros is by far my best part of the essay everytime and usually makes the rest of the essay easier due to how the intro essentially structures the rest of the essay
I'm currently in highschool and my English teacher is also strict, like really. When checking our portfolios (clear book with our worksheets), She grades the look of the pages, if there are folds, it would be -1 up to -5. She's also very strict about following the directions and the requirements but at the end of the day, she explains that her being strict is necessary for us to get used to strict teachers because there will be more strict teachers on college.
I’m a freshman in high school this year, and this reminds me so much of last year, when I had this incredible strict writing teacher, don’t get me wrong he was a amazing teacher when it came to our final essay I asked questions everyday felt confident then two weeks before due date I decided I needed to meet him after school and when I read my essay to him everything about it crumbled and he helped me fix it I was the only student with a 95 every other student had gotten B,C,and D
one of the best things u can do for english or even history if u do a lot of essays is to ask for feedback and help or clarification on essays. ive been asking my ap world teacher so much this year about my essays, but it's made writing them so much easier, and i've been receiving much better grades. i fully believe ill do really good on the ap test at the end of this school year
This is good advice but my gosh, I hate getting my writing ripped apart. It just makes me so unmotivated lol. Although I will mention that most teachers are actually much nicer than you would think, so it’s always good to ask.
I’m a straight A student. I take English honors, and I get A’s on most of my assignments. However, I wouldn’t be as good of a writer if I didn’t have my 4th grade teacher. She always met with us, and told us what could be fixed. She would tear my writing apart, and criticize me for it. I hated it then, but I’m so thankful for it now. Strict teachers can truly impact your education
Same thing happened to me: I had an essay but she said my intro was not reason able I started with "I'm gonna talk about this" and I didn't know what to start with. She started to come up to my table and gave some advice about what intro I should do. Then she even complimented me right after I listened to her.
