Take your finger and point at a light switch in your house. Notice you look at your light switch not your finger. Same thing with a red dot. Focus on something small like a light switch or a dot on the target. Draw your pistol bring it up to your eye, don’t bring your head down to the sight. Just super impose the dot on the target but keep looking at the target not the dot.

Your suggestions of practicing with attention to more nuanced factors, like grip and body position consistency, makes a lot of sense and should really help me.
Retired LE still HR218. Just added red dots to my Qual weapons. Totally a different deal. I appreciate your to the point no BS tutorial. Headed range tomorrow to practice with your tips. My first go-round so hopefully years of old-school sight alignment are overcome.
Nice tips, I'm having a little trouble transitioning to a dot myself. Seems like I'm hunting for it on my draw. This guy shouldn't be having any issues with that SRO, the big window makes a hell of a difference. The small window on the 507K on my EDC definitely makes it tougher.

I added my taller front metal to help grab the dot, wow...night and day. Thank you! Do u think there's a problem with leaving the stock rear metal and not adding the taller rear? I'm on a Glock 43X.
Probably not, unless you try to use the irons without the dot at some point. Your impacts would be low most likely with a taller front sight and normal rear sight.
What iron sights are you using with the SRO? My Trijicon Tall and Bright are barely visible through the SRO window compared to the using them with my other red dots.
Walther PDP compact 5, Lupold propoint optic. Why am I fishing to find the dot? I am far faster with iron sights. I really want to figure this out. I am almost to the point of taking the optic off.
Trying to remember who makes the red dot with an oversized circle. The circle doesn't show when held at arm length. The concept is to help acquire the dot faster instead of fishing for the dot.
It’s the ACSS Vulcan reticle and you can get it on the Holosun HS507C X2. Not sure if any other makes or models have that reticle. It’s pretty geniuses especially for people new to red dots.
The extra length actually helps. I think the G34 actually conceals better appendix than a G19. The longer slide provides leverage to keep the grip from wanting to flip out over your belt line.
@@sethrich5998 I think that depends on body type, how tall you might be, etc. I have a Dark Star holster for a glock 19 - 34 with a Streamlight TLR-1 hl and it's not the most comfortable holster in the world. It dig into me a bit. Now my Tenicor Sagax Lux for a g19 that I run w/TLR -7A is super comfortable.
@@johntoughlove479 Oh it absolutely does, there’s always a lot of personal preference. I think many people just assume it won’t work for them. I originally did as well. You sure it’s the slide length that’s digging in and not the light? I tend to find the larger lights are what make it uncomfortable and not the extra slide length.
@@carryeveryday910 Are you like 6'9 and a solid 350 lbs? No way I could conceal that in appendix on my 5'8, 150 lb carcass. Well, maybe, but if I dropped my keys in the Home Depot parking lot I wouldn't be able to bend over to pick them up. LOLOLOL

It just depends on what you want! Trijicon and Ameriglo make some good ones. Some people like tritium, some like fiber optic, some like blacked out irons.
Be careful if purchasing from Tier1. The reviews on their website are handpicked. They wont post the negative reviews. I had an issue with poor workmanship and they stopped communicating. I left a one star review and they did not post it on the site.
