The great thing about the red dot is, after you learn it, you are forced into having proper technique with the handgun, so even if you go back to irons your consistency and presentation is so much nicer than it was before.

@the zodiac guru I'm sorry I don't follow and I don't want you to think I'm being hostile. It's not a P229/p226 so you wouldn't decock. The P320's they're using don't have an external safety. Reset what on that firearm? Are you saying he should have emptied the chamber and reinserted the mag? Do you not carry with a round in the chamber? I never saw him violate one of the four fundamentals of gun safety.
@torranceparsons5216
@torranceparsons5216 4 года назад
@Zodiac, The P320’s are striker fired not hammer, striker fired pistols have the same trigger pull regardless first shot or second or 3rd, I’m assuming your referring to a SA/DA pistol
@torranceparsons5216
@torranceparsons5216 4 года назад
@the zodiac guru Guess I’m confused by what your referring to “resetting”, all P320’s are striker fired with no safety so it’s either stick back in the holster ready to rock or take Mag out, eject live round, reinsert mag and holster but then you’ll have to re-rack before next drill or next time you need to use...

Now that they've accepted it can and does work and it's not going to fade out people are investing time in learning it and developing instruction around it. There were classes for red dot edc guns around since 2012.

I'm almost 52. Been shooting since I was 8 years old. Very good with AK's, AR's, shotguns, etc. Grew up hunting, even as a kid, sometimes in order to help feed our family. Do my own gunsmithing for the most parts as well. I can fit and install every part on a 1911. Strip and clean AR/AK blindfolded. My all time favorite handgun, the one I qualified (perfect score) with for my CWP, is an old, well worn P228, my most cherished handgun in my collection. But for the life of me, I CAN NOT GET THE HANG of red dots on a handgun. I have tried in the past with a Canik TP9sfx. Took the dot off after 10 minutes. I gave up. It was not natural. I DIDNT trust the dot. It was floating unnaturally around. I didn't want to send one over the berm. My buddy took the handgun..boom boom boom, center mass. I was so frustrated. I also have bad astigmatism. The dot is not a dot. It's a star bust. I felt left out of a sport I truly love and cherish. I recently bought a Sig M17 and a M18 (my buddy is shooting a Sig X5 Legion with a Romeo sight. I chose to go with two handguns for the price of one..but one day, if I can learn this red dot thing, I will buy a Legion as well) and I am going to learn this skill, once and for all. I got a Holosun with the circle dot in green. This is easier on my eyes with my astigmatism. Having two items on glass makes it easier for me to find the dot and put everything into perspective. No idea why. But it is. This has been the very BEST video I have found on how to learn this skill. Thank you Colion and Sig Sauer Training Academy!!! I have this video on REPEAT. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Sorry for the novel, but I had to share my excitement.

Colion, I am a long time viewer of your content and sometimes critic of your platform. I believe that a 2A voice with your abilities should not use your statements as a hook to bring in the audience and then hit them with a merch offer. My opinion only, is that this (your) advocacy needs to be less about commercialism and more about altruism. That being said, I have to tell you that this was hands down your best video ever. Here’s why: it unapologetically showed your flaws and pursuits. For those of us who carry for a living, it’s a reminder about complacency in our training. If you watch this video and have any self awareness, you’ll see some of yourself in what Colion was doing or not doing. From how he placed his support hand to his chest, his muzzle awareness, his head and shoulder movement, his attention on the instructor, his obvious commitment to his training (i.e. not going through the motions for the sake of a RU-vid viewer count) etc, etc. I learned a lot, I recognized some of my own bad habits, and for that, I sincerely thank you.

So many "EXPERT" firearms instructors teach different/conflicting approaches. Leads me to believe that so many firearms instructors are self-appointed experts, and they gain their notoriety by convincing others that they are experts. I have light eyes and large pupils and i frequently feel that it's more "bright" (as far as my eyes hurting) when it's overcast than when it's sunny. UV is invisible and doesn't cause your pupils to constrict like bright visible light does, but it still hurts your eyes. So you can actually get more of it in your eyes on a slightly overcast day than on a sunny day

I recently set up a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 on my ZPAP AK-47. It works GREAT. Having said that I don't see a red dot for a handgun. First of all, you should carry concealed as a last resort and, God forbid, if you get into a gunfight shoot combat style, i.e. point and shoot. If you take the time to aim you will lose. I practice combat style at the range from 3, 5, and 9 yards. Longer shots I take with the iron sights. Secondly, I can't see a red dot holding zero on a semi-auto handgun. The slide moving violently back and forth has got to have a deleterious effect on the red dot. In any case, each to his own. I suppose it's subjective.

@@victorcoleman949 - do you run backup iron sights, and if so which ones. I’m looking but a delta pro, but I am concerned about the height of the sights needed to get over the height of the base of the delta point pro. I will be putting it on a G35 as a carry gun. Also, if you run iron backups, what holster did you find that would accept the taller front sight?

"Aim small miss small." Don't hear that enough these days! Most of the stuff today is "how fast can I put rounds anywhere on this steel plate?"
@InnocuousTransition
@InnocuousTransition 4 года назад
You should train to shoot at fast as possible and hit whatever size/distance your target is. The 9mm and 5.56 are rounds that are very forgiving of missed shots. You're more likely to have good effects with multiple rounds. If your target is man sized at 10m you don't need to be taking slow, accurate shots. You slow down your shot cadence for more distant or smaller, low percentage targets.

I'm a Boxing coach, and when I go to my range to shoot, be it pistols or rifles, I'm in my BOXING STANCE. Boxing Stance is an hand to hand combat stance, and it involves maintaining your weight in a certain position which is usually 40/60 or 45/55 with most of my weight (the 60 or 55) slightly leaning back with the jab foot forward and the cross foot back some, that way when your ready to move in the ring or in battle with a firearm, you will have that ability to do so with ease. The main thing is to keep your feet apart like an (A) frame..visualize the letter A, thats how your stance is when in battle an A with a bit of head wind blowing it back as to have that 60/40-55/45 ratio in your stance. I haven't got into the pistol Red Dot thing yet, because that will require me to re up all my holsters, etc, also, I think when it comes to life, drawing a firearm at a threat while concealing it, one shouldn't have to be thinking about whether their battery is drained or not etc, but thats me. Brother Noir, check out my man on RU-vid ..Ronin Tactics Inc, this brother is a Martial Artist, and former Green Beret Special Forces operator , who shows and explains good tactics when it comes to self defense utilizing firearms etc.

You're supposed to push straight out from the draw with iron sights as well! The techniques he's showing are the same techniques you're supposed to have been doing with iron sights as well. It's all about mastering the fundamentals. Had he mastered the fundamentals during his iron sight period, the transition over to red dot would've been uneventful!

Colion my issue with red dots is in a fight you don't aim. Not with a handgun not with an m4 a 240 or 249 unless its the beginning of an ambush. I can see their use in competition but sadly for most Americans we have one handgun for most eventualities or sporting uses. Love your content. My question is what is your recommendation for red dot vs iron sights now that you have had more time to properly learn? (For competition and combat)

A lot of panicked self defenders dont use their sights and just shoot to shoot but if you watch hundreds of police body cams and security camera footage you notice the people aiming stopping the threat as quickly as possible. This is what I'm wondering. If the dot is focused beyond 10 or 20 ft, then presbyopia - which causes issues being able to see iron sights clearly - won't be a problem. In my humble opinion and owner of a red dot here are my three rock solid suggestions. 1.) Go buy a g-sight laser bullet. 2.) Site the red dot with this poor mans laser bore site job starting at ~25ft and then move back to ~40ft. 3.) Obtaining the red dot consistently via center glass requires muscle memory aka practice which is accomplished by using the g-sight bullet. The g-sight has helped me to the point I don't need my iron sites let alone red dot.

Now THAT was informative... especially now that I’m trying red dots on pistols instead of iron sights only. The whole fishing thing with my eyes is still something I’m working through. Right hand shooter left eye dominant. I also shoot all long guns left shoulder only. It’s a work in progress with these red dots especially coming from years of training where we come out of the holster and swing up towards the target.
