I am always weary of self improvement content but yours actually helps me. There's no overpriced courses, no "depression isn't real, just clean your room" bs, no toxic positivity bs, no "everything in your life is 100% your fault" bs. You take self improvement seriously and the wisdom you share is real. This goal setting system sounds great and I'll definitely try it for my current goals. Thanks a lot for doing what you're doing and good luck with your second book!!

I think your use of AI is exactly how artists, real artists, need to use it. It’s a sounding board, something to inspire and jump off of, and not an actual full solution to creative problems. This is cool. I might give it a shot, as some of my goals this year are very nebulous lol

The AI prompt really floored me, man. It was wild how good it was at giving goal-specific advice. It's clear you poured a lot of your wisdom into it because a lot of it made sense, and even had a healthy dose of your personality in there! I've been a huge fan of your methods for as long as I've known about you... they really resonate with me. Can't wait to take this with me as I tackle 2024!

I've been wanting to meditate and exercise more and I've adopted a strange strategy to help with that: Floor time. No matter how I feel, every single day I will lay on the floor. That's it, that's the goal. I will not get back up until I feel like I've accomplished Floor Time properly. On a good day I immediately go into yoga and meditation and might follow up with one of my more intensive exercise options like weight lifting. On a bad day, I will lay on the floor and stare at the ceiling, notice how shitty my body feels, and think, "Well, I'm here, I may as well stretch out my joints. I can do some deep breathing too, that doesn't take much extra energy." Sometimes, it wakes me up a bit and I'm able to properly get into whatever I'm doing. Sometimes I am just genuinely, truly not feeling it because I have absolutely no energy, might be sick, whatever. On those days, I let myself do the bare minimum. I know that if I Push Through like all the motivational speakers say to do, I'll burn myself out and start to associate Floor Time with Pain Time and I'll want to stop doing it. The key is that even when I feel like absolute garbage and am realistically not doing anything that actively drives me towards my goals, I am still maintaining the routine that will get me there. I don't have the shame or anxiety of 'falling off'. I laid on the floor, I listened to my body, my body said no, but I still laid on the floor. It keeps up the habit of putting myself where I physically and mentally need to be every day to make it happen on my better days.
@wa5657
@wa5657 8 месяцев назад
🤝 reading it on the floor, mate at first I was trying to do exercises everyday, but of course I started to slack off, and now when I have a shitty day I know that at least I can relax my spine and slow down the world a bit while lying down floor is a nice place

I really appreciate the video even though I'm still likely to struggle with figuring out an actual clear goal for a while. My 2023 was both amazing and absolutely horrible. I met the love of my life, went traveling on my own for the first time, met some amazing people and made great memories. Then maybe about a month after I got back from my vacation I lost my father to depression. Our relationship was incredibly strained for the past year as well because of childhood trauma and my parents finally going through with the divorce that they needed. I never got to say goodbye though or received the apology I felt like I was deserved. That was back in October and I still don't think I'm fully over it, definitely not enough to properly interact with the outside world yet. My heart goes out to you, losing someone suddenly fucking sucks. It's nice though to feel like I'm not completely alone, the piles of trauma I have feel like they just keep getting more and more tangled the more I try to undo them. I've been to an amazing therapist but she just costs too much for me now at this point. I know you're not licensed but I really appreciate you doing these videos. You make me feel like it's not as hopeless as it seems sometimes. Even though I struggle to genuinely implement anything helpful in my life I still have the comfort in not feeling crazy or lazy even for not getting anywhere. That easy path in my brain is so smooth it's practically a waterslide. Things like this help me sit back for a moment and just breathe, try and help get my thoughts in order so I can try again. Thank you for all that you do, best wishes to you and your family

Mate, I'm 21, been watching your videos for like a week, and it is having a PROFOUND effect on the way I see my life. All I've wanted for the last few months is to move myself closer to the life I want. Financially, creatively, all that stuff. I'm sick of reading books and watching videos that tell me "You do have the time, you're just not doing anything with it" and sitting there with rings around my eyes at the end of a day feeling like I JUST haven't ticked enough boxes, or eaten enough frogs, or feeling enough fear or changing enough about anything. My life is feeling like a sliding puzzle recently. In order to get to what I want to do/finish/work on, I have to put out five other fires, move loads of shit out of the way, and then when I finally get round to it I have no energy to get started. It's fundamentally draining. Seeing people like you putting out videos all the time and at such high quality whilst I take months and months and months to put out one 8-minute highlight video is a real kick in the teeth, especially when I compare where I am to where you came from and tell myself I've got it easy. it's not about the amount of water you're drowning compared to that of other people. It's about the fact that you're drowning. Thanks for that tidbit Cameron :) Off the back of your content, I'm going to try and set myself up better for progress, and try to make it easier for me to get started on things. Thanks for existing boss.

So sorry for your loss man. In 2022 I lost a dear friend in February, followed by a second even dearer friend in July, followed by a third in September, 5 days before I was due to have a surgery that was meant to be an overnight stay in hospital but went wrong and had me there two weeks, finally topped off by witnessing my brother in law die graphically in a freak accident in our front garden a week after I got out of hospital. It’s been a whole year since all these tragedies unfolded in such a short space of time and I’m still not doing too well. Spent years in therapy from 13 years old to almost being discharged as I was finally on top of all my past traumas and then 2022 happened and since then I’ve been in a whole new form of hell I never could have imagined and it’s so hard to know how I could ever get back to where I was before all that tragedy. But anyway that’s a whole lotta dark stuff, despite all that pain I’m still here and still trying my hardest and sure it’s fucking agony at times but I am lucky to have a beautiful 3 year old son who I have to be strong for and that is a blessing I couldn’t begin articulate the importance of. I’ve always found so much comfort in your content because I feel we have eerily similar lives, views and interests as well as troubles so I feel I relate to you heaps and I’m so sorry that now we can relate on loss. You’re a huge inspiration to me and clearly so many other people and you give such a huge breath of fresh air from the day to day hell that life can be so thank you so much for all that you do. Sorry about your friend Cam, that's a pretty tough thing to have to handle :/💙 Tbh doing anything after something like that is impressive, so definitely take it easy. Life isn't always consistent enough to plan for, so there's no shame in slowing down for a bit. If it's a struggle to keep goals, perhaps prioritize them differently and let some things slide for a bit, at least until you start feeling well enough that it doesn't feel too "heavy" to handle anymore. If you can't be "productive", aim for grace instead. Maybe it will be a hard time, but showing yourself grace does more for healing then beating yourself up does. Perhaps it could become a lesson in how to be kinder to yourself, or delve into why productivity is so important that you would feel shame for not being that way all the time, even when circumstances do not allow for it (what your values are + where you originally got them from, and if it is valuable to keep them or not, or in what situations). I hope you can hold the space and time to grieve + heal well, and I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure you made their life better and they were happy to have known you while they were around, just like you were happy to have known them~

I find another thing that is important is to look at your flaws with detachment. What I mean by this is that it can be easy to look at what you don't like about yourself as a bad thing. It very well might be. It could be a pattern of behavior that is ruining your life, destroying relationships, and keeping you stuck. I find that if you judge those behaviors too harshly however, you can get into a guilt/shame loop. You want to stop these behaviors, you feel ashamed for doing them, you turn towards unhealthy coping mechanisms, you notice the bad behavior, and the cycle repeats. Another way I see it is that if you associate the "fixing" of the behavior with the negative feelings of having that behavior, your mind likes to be efficient and cut out the middle man, so it may end up looking like: 1 feel shame about behavior, 2 try to fix shameful behavior, 3 feel more ashamed when you don't see immediate results. Then your brain condenses it to: 1 feel ashamed when you notice the behavior at all, even when you are working on it. I find that the best way around this is to work at the source of the shame, and to try to find where it's really coming from. Often times it comes from other people's judgements from the past becoming internalized as our own. Friends, family, parents, and past lovers all fall into this. Once people let them go, and accept where they are with no emotional judgements, changing the behavior becomes easier.

Thanks for this post. I noticed also that when thinking about who you'd have to be to achieve a certain goal, you also get to decide if becoming that person is worth it. Like say I want to lose 50 pounds. Who do I have to become to achieve that goal? Someone who wakes up early to exercise every morning, counts calories, watches everything they eat, and can't really enjoy meals anymore they way they used to. Now if my reason for wanting to lose 50 lbs is because my health and my life are on the line, then becoming that person might be worth it to me. But if it's just vanity, like I want to lose 50 lbs so everyone at work will compliment how great I look, then becoming that person might not be worth it. Maybe becoming someone who makes better food choices and slows down and enjoys their food and incorporates more healthy movement into their day is the person I'd like to become instead. If I lose a few pounds that way, great. But if not, I've made the choice of who I want to be and accepted the end result of that choice. I think that's why our goals fail so often. We think that having or doing this thing is going to make us happy, but we're thinking of it in the context of who we are right now. Like if I as I am right now had this thing, it would be great. But when we start working towards a goal and realize the person we have to become to achieve this goal is not in line with our values, we give up. Then we punish ourselves for being a failure, when in all honesty we are not. We just realized subconsciously that the person we had to become to achieve that goal wasn't someone we really wanted to be.

I cannot thank you enough for creating and sharing this tool with us (FOR FREE!), I’m amazed at how valuable I find the results. I’m printing it off and hanging it above my workspace now. It’s also very motivating being able to check off some of the Ingredients, telling me I’m already on the right path. THANK YOU ❤️🙏🏼😭

Your AI app is powerful! I put in three different goals. At first, it's humorous with the trajectory of inaction. Then it's full of useful tips, with a timeline. The third one, well it must have hit a nerve, I was in tears. I like how the plan is downloadable and have saved all three. Thank you, seriously, you have already helped one person. Really decent of you to make a tool that can benefit us. Thank you

I found your channel at 2021 and many of your videos made me question myself and have hunger to actually change and go for my goals. Last year was a blast because of that and all I want for this one is to keep on with the snowball.

Just wanted to pop in and say this goal setting AI tool has been a GAME CHANGER! Especially because I am more motivated by "dark why" and FOMO type of anxiety. I mean, if I am going to be anxious may as well use it productively, which in turns means I am getting more done, and so then I am overall less anxious and overwhelmed. This and "Does it make the boat go faster?" thinking have been massive for reframing things and my executive dysfunction.

Struth, Struth! Discovered you yesterday and ..... well....... Thank the multitude of deities that may have lead me here (yeah I know it was an algorithm but that thawt is such not as fun) I am 59 and have been procrastinating (kind of. lol) for at least 56 of them. 5 years ago I went to uni, got a degree in visual art and communicion with a major sequence in animation. And...... still on the longest most meandering road to doing. I have many reasons for the longevity of this path. Some extremely legitimate and some completely self entrenched road blocks. Many of these are still (yes at my age) flamed by self doubt that was instilled by a certain role model of my childhood and then habitualised by myself. My environment has been progressively been changing for the better and so too my ability to see the fork in the road. I truly believe that your approach to content, execution and delivery has hit a chord within me that will help me move past aforementioned self imposed road blocks and begin making! So today I am setting a goal to watch your content on a regular basis and implement action on at least one step gained from this each week. wicked shit mate. Every mark made is a step forward.

I just wanted to say, this last year I doubted my goals. I was struggling so much just to complete *something*. While I was able to do some things I'm very proud of, the question that sat in the back of my head was "Is this really what you want to do? Surely if it was you'd have done it by now!" Despite knowing that last year was an unusually hard year due to circumstances out of my control, I still doubted myself. For shits and giggles I typed that goal into the prompt. And the first two answers had me sobbing. If nothing else, having this reflect to me what would happen if I didn't pursue this has solidified that *yes, this is what I want to do, damnit!* Thanks for the video and the tool and for 2023.

fyi, you helped so many people with your first book, all because of what you had to say and your journey in life. I’m sure that you’ll help and inspire people with the book your writing. I read your book when I had a massive burnout, and reading your book and journal exercises where the first steps I took in recovery. 2 years later and im weirdly enough grateful I even had a burnout, because I’ve grown so much over the past 2 years and feel more fulfilled and happier. Consider this some motivation hehee :)

I JUST started the video but the 4th question is so important: Why haven’t I done it yet? This question helps you also realize other things that HAVE to be priority that you may not have made a connection to. For me, it’s health. I haven’t done it yet because I live in chronic pain, which is a fairly new circumstance for me. I’ve been trying to just suck it up and deal with it on my own, but doing that means I am too fatigued and in pain to actually work on my goals. So my goal for 2024 is to figure out treatment, and thus have the energy and ability to work towards other goals.

You’re such an inspiration bro. I had a mate die suddenly at the start of 2021 a week before his 30th. Im still fairly fucked up about it. I soon after relapsed and escalated my previous drug addiction. I’m currently sobering up and hating life and feeling lost and directionless. I’ve been out of work for 5 years due to injury and surgery which led into covid and a whole bunch of traumatic life shit and then in active addiction for the last 2. I’ll definitely be coming back to this video and perhaps having a look at some of Allen Iverson’s ideas for me and my goals. Thanks for making such open, honest and vulnerable content, it’s the realness the world needs and I appreciate the wisdom you share.

One thing I saw which has really helped me, especially as a parent is when something goes wrong We have the tendency to go The day is ruined we Will try again tomorrow but why wait till tomorrow we have the ability to restart our day whenever. This could look like well I’ve already eaten five chocolate croissants for breakfast I may as well have an unhealthy day when after breakfast you could say we didn’t get after the best start, but let’s think about what healthy lunch I can make. My toddler through a huge tantrum and I didn’t handle it The best will try again tomorrow instead apologise for how you handled the situation and think of something positive you can do to help them through the same situation next time. Being able to reset your day whenever really help stop procrastination
