I used to be a licensed nail tech, and the secret to not flood the nail is to place the blob of nail polish about 3 mm from the cuticle, wiggle the brush in place to slightly spread the bristles and then push the polish back to about 1 mm from the cuticle, and then pull forward to the tip. Your brush should be on a 45degree angle or less to your nail bed. Place your brush back up near the cuticle and swipe to the right to fill in the side and repeat on the left. 2nd coat will cover and streaks.

Cristine, I have been an aggressive nail biter since I was about 6 years old (I’m now 30). I love your channel and recently bought some Holo Taco to support you, my partner promised that I could paint his toe nails (mine suck from years of a, now cured, fungal infection - yuck!). After I made my order, I realised that I had actually stopped biting most of my nails for long enough to have a small amount of length. I had tried to quit in the past with little long term success. Once I realised that I had stopped without trying, I was more motivated to keep some lengthy my order arrived a few weeks ago and I’m loving my new glass nail file and nail tool kit, and I’ve been painting my nails on my days off (I’m a nurse so can’t wear nail polish at work). I guess I just wanted to thank you, my nails have never looked so good. And yes, my partner now has holo toe nails.

A good way to know when your top coat is all the way dry is by gently touching your nails to each other after the surface is dry to the touch. If they feel the slightest bit grabby with each other, you're not dry yet, and have the potential to dent or imprint your polish.

@dangerbirb4981

You also don't flood the cuticle because your skin is soft (movable) and is moister than your nailbed. If you put polish on it, which is brittle (even gel which is less brittle), that's exactly where your nail polish will start lifting first. Your cuticle skin is super delicate. You can push it back by accident reaching into your purse, cereal box, whatever. If something pokes it, it moves. Now imagine putting something brittle on top of that and you can see why it cracks or lifts.

We love Holo Taco Glossy Taco in my house! It self levels, it drys fast, and keeps our nails looking great even a week or two later! We even have the Matte Taco too incase we feel the nail strips are too shiny! We do have some actual Holo Taco nail polish too (I referring to colors and stuff) but we normally don't have time to use it. My mother did just use it on her toes though so it does get used! And when we do use it, it's amazing!

The other reason to wrap the tip is because a lot of glossy tacos contract a little bit when they dry, so that prevents the polish from leaving a tiny sliver of bare nail at the tip. As for glossy tacos...I've never used cristine's, but for a long time the go to in the nail community has been seche vite. You can get it at Sally beauty if you don't feel like ordering it online and waiting. But it is quick dry like 20-30 mins after you finish you can rummage around in your purse type quick dry. There are also specialized tacos for like heavy glitter that give you that glass finish in one coat rather than 2 of a normal quick dry.

Sorry if this has been said already but I feel like something nobody talks about for beginners is how you bring the brush and polish out of the bottle to control how much polish is on the brush and where on the brush it is. For example, I usually do shake the bottle before I use it (I don't have problems with bubbles) so there is excess polish on the plastic shaft part of the brush. So I scrape the excess off of the plastic part and the bristles of the brush which also shapes the brush if it's round. Then dip back in the bottle for a different amount for each nail and scrape one side of the brush to place the polish on the brush where I want.

For me personally using a good base coat (orly bonder) is the single most important step to getting my manicure to last. I can use ultra cheap nail polish or high quality indi polish it lasts all week. I also use a good top coat but it seems less important but both are a good idea.

Thank you for all the tip 😊 Recently got into painting my nails and this was helpful. I've been using a gel polish that doesn't require a base or top coat but tried a peelable base coat because of you and I prefer it. Easier removel and I like changing my polish more often. The gel polish was lasting to long for me (yes I'm weird I know). One question, for regular polish is there any real reason to use a nail dryer? Or it that solely used by salons to get you out faster?

Cristine please do a video demo for applying the multichrome polishes, they are the most difficult for noobs to apply. Thankyou!

I've painted my nails on and off but I've become a proper Lacquerista (tm) ever since I became a Simply Simp! This stream was both fun and really informative since there were a few things I still didn't know. (I have always had trouble with imprints on my nails) Now if only I could figure out why I have 1 or 2 polishes whose formula refuses to dry solidly on my hands even after 24 hours! I suppose it's a matter of body chemistry since the same polish dries solid on my mom's nails just fine but she couldn't see herself using it as often as me and it happens to be my favorite color :( no idea what to do about that so hopefully Professor Simply can have a class about that lol

Thanks for this version! I love your content! I have a question about wrapping the tips. For you just do the free edge or underneath as well? I can never quite tell from watching Cristine and it was hard to tell in this video still, maybe it’s in the stream?
@JamisonS15
@JamisonS15 2 года назад
She doesn’t TRY to get a ton underneath but it does happen when she wraps that free edge. I always just try to make sure the whole end is covered and anything that ends up farther underneath my nail I usually just leave there 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ edit:spelling!

how do you wrap the tip when the nail doesn't extend over the edge of the fingertip? I have chubby fingers and can't have long nails. I've never succeeded with wrapping the tip of the nail without fully painting my fingertip in the process.

Short nail club member here! I do two things to help with this-- using weird angles to just get a tiny corner of the brush to lightly get the tip. Tho, especially when painting with my non-dominant hand, I'll still get a little polish on my fingers. Second thing is I don't wrap the tip last. When you have to get weird to wrap the tip, usually polish globs at the top. If the rest of the nail is already painted, you can't re-stroke or else it'll pick up the color that's already down (as Cristine demonstrated). So I do one swipe of color starting from the cuticle and down the nail. THEN I wrap the tip. THEN I finish the swipes on the nail in order to get any globs outta there! Hope this helps!

I guess you don't need to? Once the nail is past the finger edge, that's when it's probably more likely to chip.

I like to add another coat of glossy taco a few days later on the glitter polishes especially. I once got long lasting base, Play Rosé, with super glossy taco to go 4 weeks without a single chip. I just cannot with long nails so I ended up removing the polish to file down my nails but it was still going strong. I went a little file happy so I'm currently waiting for my nails to grow enough so there's a tip to wrap and I don't end up looking like I finger painted 😅 Now off to add some cuticle oil

Omg you unlocked a memory for me , when I did nail art all the time , I used to use the underside of my tongue to fix dents or finger marks . Is that bad , wait lol nah you've shown us ingesting nail polish is fine and noble as a nail artist (disclaimer don't eat nail polish)

I was wondering if you could try one nail polish from each brand that’s available from drugstores to see how they do. I never know what nail polish to pick that are really great results. I think it would be a pretty fun video to watch. I’d love to see how they preform kinda like a review first impressions.

something that helps me with duck nails, especially if you work in food service, is always using 2 coats of top coat and painting the underside of your nails with the top coat when you wrap the tip.

My strategy has always been to do whatever as long as the nail itself looks good, throughout the day all the polish on my fingers will flake off (I get to pick it off which makes me happy) and by the next day it looks perfect, to the point where people ask me who does my nails lol by the next day it’s already chipping bc I don’t use a base coat and my “top coat” is a clear polish

19:20 for bigger dents i very very lightly fill in the dent with the same color nail polish. and when its dry go over everything with another top coat. it might make the whole nail a little thicker but luckily i only need to do that for big dents. for smaller ones like she did in the video, afterwards i like to go over again with top coat to hide the finger print marks. also for none-gel nails getting a little desk fan to make nails dry faster is a life saver

Great tips. Thank you. It pisses me off when I work so hard on my nails before work and then go to work and they get all messed up. I’m in healthcare and I get up very early and that’s when I do my nails. I always make sure they are dry enough and then go to put on my gloves to give a shower and then take them off and they are all messed up. I will definitely be trying some of those tips. Thank you.
