How to Add a Custom Vehicle to City Sample Project?

In this tutorial, I will show you how to add a custom vehicle to the city sample destructible vehicle project from the Matrix Awakens Demo. You will learn how to create the custom skeletal mesh by using the existing destructible skeletal mesh, edit the skeleton and collision, create a child vehicle blueprint, set up the vehicle wheels, reuse the physics asset, adjust the constraints of the physics asset, import and export skeleton from Blender to Unreal Engine, and modify the destructible glass.
This tutorial is ideal for anyone who wants to create their own custom vehicles that can deform. I have included the Blender files for the custom vehicle in the link in the description.

If you have any problem with the weight of your skeletal mesh, you can download the blender project and use it as your sample.

Hey man I have an issue . I am making a speedometer and i used to bo vehicle so that it will act as a common blueprint so that every vehicle will have speedometer without making it for every vehicle but when I used different cars it won't work and when I used the same car agar it won't work on the previous car too. The cast is failing but it's not giving any error that the cast is failing

Thanks for the awesome tutorial, Sir. I have a question. In the "Clean Weight Paint" part You briefly demonstrate how to edit the weights. Could You tell me please what exactly we should export to the UE5? Is the only file for reimport is the SKM_Proxy_vehCar_vehicle00a or we should rebuild all the skeletons and other meshes You demonstrate in the first parts of video? Sorry for a silly question. Thank You in advance.

You need only to reimport SKM_Proxy_vehCar_vehicle00a after you clean the weight.

@@jourverse Thank You, Sir. However, since the Proxy mesh is reimported, UE5 automatically creates two additional files, namely the skeleton and the physical asset. Do we need those new files?

Is it possible to make a vehicle chassis that can physically bend and twist from the middle in bumps, using the skeleton mesh?

Yes, it's possible to bend in the middle of the skeleton mesh. But this system isn't intended to do that.

Do you know how to add the damage to the material? They are using virtual textures and the deformation of the vehicle to apply a damage texture to areas that are deformed. Haven't looked through it yet.

I didn't work on that. because the damage material is related to the UV unwrap. And this vehicle isn't correctly UV unwrapping

Hello! Great tutorial. Is it possible to add weight and inertia? For example, in City Cars sample there is no difference if i hit the wall on 1 km/h or 50. So, that the damage value did it depend on the initial speed?

This is the drawback of this system. I’m not sure we can adjust that inertia. You can go to physics asset of the vehicle then adjust some threshold there. Experiment with the settings.

This is very impressive, I appreciate you a lot for doing these tutorials. However I remember back when I created my own city using the Matrix tools with Houdini there was an issue with the destructible system only working in editor but never working when packaged to an executable. I am wondering, have you checked if it's working in packaged app? We spent weeks trying to figure it out and we couldn't find the issue/solution to make it run in packaged app.

Yes, I am facing the same problem as yours. The deformation only work in the editor, not in the packaged. I try to solve it too, but unfortunately can't get it to work.

I'm getting this error while packaging the project. ERROR: Unable to instantiate module 'UnrealEd': Unable to instantiate UnrealEd module for non-editor targets.However, this module is not in my U project and CS files.

I also get this error. I remove all the cpp files that related to custom anim graph and able to package the project. I can't find the real solution.

It is work in 5.3 with some process to update the project, but it won’t work in packaged build.

@@thenoobdev The deformation of the mesh is only work in editor. Even if I solved the error and package the project, the deformation still not work in packaged build. This is happen for all version. 5$ for all the projects that I made. You can continue support each months or cancel after you download the projects.

Why do my bumpers deform when I press play? -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r38xBQg0uwY.html If you watch the video, you see the skeleton before I press play is correct size and positioned correctly, but the after I press play the skeleton is smaller and the bumpers are deformed. Why is the skeletal mesh changing when I press play? This began happening when I added the data asset for vehicle06. I coped that asset and renamed it into my custom vehicle folder and now this happens. I do not see any reference to the vehicle06 proxy skeletal mesh in the data asset. What could be causing this issue? Thanks.

Fixed Project: www.patreon.com/posts/project-file-how-91805093. I removed the DestructibleVehicleRuntime module from the project and now you can package the project successful. Unfortunately, deformation of the vehicle only works in the editor but not in the packaged project. forums.unrealengine.com/t/niagara-city-sample-vehicle-damage-sensor-grid-not-working-in-standalone-or-packaged-only-in-pie/537456. I hope this might help you a little bit with the problem.

When you drag your vehicle skeleton mesh in the scene, did it appear in copy scale? Sometimes the scale of the vehicle is too small, so you can't see.

@@jourverse If I add animbp to the vehicle, the car distorts, and then when I adjust the physics assets, the vehicle disappears. When I press the play button, it vanishes. Can you help with this?

I never try in UE4 but it may work on UE4. You need to enable the plugin because some plugin is default enable in UE5.

Moving the constraints is not working for me @50:49.

Ok, I know what to do. If you are having problems adjusting the constraints for the front and rear ends, all I did was press the arrow button to reset the constraints position transform for the child and parent. Depending on the original skeletal mesh, for me was vehicle06, there will be several linear constraints in the front, and a couple in the rear. Just select each of these constraints and reset the position with the arrow button next to the box. This worked for me.
