You should get the heat and bond in the purple package not the red tho cause the red says ‘no sew’ and the purple says you can sew it

Thank you! For the heat-n-bond, you can use either the red heavy or the pink lite. Both will work great but the pink one won't gum up your needle as much as the red. They will be sold right next to each other so you should easily see the difference in the packaging.

Do you add interfacing to the jersey as well?

How come sometimes you use the heat press and other times you use the iron? Is there a reason or just your preference? Thank you for your videos! They are very helpful!
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 5 лет назад
Not really a reason honestly. I think for this project, it just seemed easier to use the iron instead of heating up the press for sure a small project. You could easily use the heat press to apply the Heat N Bond and it would make it faster for sure. :)

Hi Carol. I have a question about ironing the interfacing onto the t shirts. I watched your video where you showed pressing your interfacing on with a heat press. I recently watched someone else’s video where they used a steam press. Do you need steam? I recently purchased a used heat press and want to know if this is ok to press the interfacing on to my T shirts? Thank you so much Allison
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 6 лет назад
Hi! Interesting. I've not seen it done with steam before. When I press my interfacing, I do not use steam. I think using steam might take a bit more time because you'll need to wait for the glue to dry. I don't think it would take much more time, just until the glue cooled a bit. But I'm honestly not sure if that would even be an issue. I never use steam only because the instructions on the interfacing say to use dry heat. Oh yes, the heat press will be fine with the shirts and interfacing. I have mine set at 275 degrees and I press for 13 seconds. Works perfectly each time. Just make sure your shirt logo is always facing down! Might be easy to get mixed up and put the interfacing on the logo itself. Yikes!!
@ped869xe
@ped869xe 2 года назад
great video and very well explained, but after your finished, did you put interfacing on the back of the shirt? If so, what kind did you use?
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 2 года назад
Thank you! And thanks for watching! Because you're putting fabric on the back of the jersey using Heat N Bond, the Heat N Bond will prevent the shirt fabric from stretching like normal so no interfacing is needed in these situations. But, the interfacing that I normally use is Pellon P44F JAS and I purchase it from Joann Fabrics by the bolt. And always with a coupon!!

could you trim away the existing "lining" under the Rogers name before fusing the Heat n Bond and T shirt lining? Would that potentially make that area of the shirt smoother?
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 6 лет назад
I don't think it would a difference unless you took the stitches out. You could trim the lining out but that will just make it thinner since there will no longer be two layers of fabric. But I think the small ripples would still be there. :/

Do you know what setting you would use on your heat press for this?
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 4 года назад
I normally press all my tshirt quilt items at 275 degrees for 13 seconds. I'll adjust the pressing time for different fabrics if I feel like they might scorch or burn if they get too hot. I hope this helps!

When you sew the blocks with your machine do you have any problems. I always heard that heat and bond ultra hold will gum up your needle. Please let me know. I have to make a T shirt quilt for my niece and my brother gave me a bunch of jersey not cotton shirts. Thanks
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 5 лет назад
It does gum it up but not terribly. When the needle goes into the fabric, the "gummy" stuff gets pushed up the needle so eventually you get this little tiny ball on the upper end of the needle. I just pluck it off and keep sewing. Once I'm done sewing through the heat n bond, I'll wipe the needle really quick with some goo be gone and keep right on sewing! :) You can try the heat n bond lite as it's supposed to be less gummy. Oh yikes! Jersey is fine to work with but honestly having to add fabric to back of a bunch of shirts will be slightly time consuming. But if you do a few shirts a day or every other day, you'll get them done in no time. :)

Should we do a tee shirt on all Jerseys! Mine seem to have really tiny holes! If not what kind of bonding would I use!
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 10 месяцев назад
You could for sure do a quilt made completely with jersey's. It would be a bit heavier once it's completed due to the extra fabric on the back to cover up the holes. But because of that, you could forgo using batting. I would still use something such as one layer of cotton fabric between the backing and quilt top layers just to help hold everything together and hide the seams a bit.

I used the ultra hold heat and bond for my jersey and I can't sew through it. Any suggestions?
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 4 года назад
Hi Carol! I think I sent you an email to hopefully assist but I'll go ahead and post the reply here just in case that wasn't you. :) That's very interesting that it won't sew through it. I've never heard of a machine that couldn't do it. Well, once it's on there's really no 100% way to remove it. But, if you reheat it, you should be able to peel the jersey fabric away from the fabric you bonded to the back of it. You will still need to add something back to the jersey before adding it to your project though. But, by replacing the bonded fabric with fresh fabric, it should make it easier for the machine to sew through. So, reheat it, peel the jersey away from the bonded fabric, then add a fresh piece of fabric to the back of the jersey. There will still be a little heat n bond residue on the jersey so use that little bit that's left to bond the new fabric. There should still be just enough to bond the two pieces of fabric together but not so much that your machine won't be able to sew through all the layers. I really hope this works for you.

Should heat and bond be used on sports jerseys that don't have the holes?
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 2 года назад
There's no need to use it on jerseys that do not have the holes. The purpose of the heat n bond for jerseys with holes is to adhere fabric to back to prevent the batting in the quilt from poking out through the holes. If there are no holes, there's no chance of the batting poking out. 🙂 for those jerseys with no holes, you can just add the interfacing to the back like you do for tshirts. You'll still want to add the interfacing to keep the fabric from stretching while sewing.

@@SegoviaQuilts Unfortunately I have used heat n bond on the other slinky type numbered sports shirts. Have I ruined the quilt?
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 2 года назад
Not to worry, nothing is ruined. It's alright if you used it already as it will still stabilize the fabric and keep it from stretching while you sew. You might have to keep an eye on your needle while sewing everything together as that much heat n bond could build up on the top of your needle. Just pick it off and keep on sewing. 👍

Thank you so much. Do you think you might do some videos on cutting material for pattens. I get confused as to how to orient the fabric to cut. I don’t understand how to cut the backing out of yardage.

Hi there! That's a great question. I can for sure do a video showing how I determine how much backing fabric is needed. I'm working on a quilt right now actually so I'll be needing to figure out backing fabric in a few days. I'll post something soon showing that for you!

Which type of HEAT AND BOND do you use for sport jersey quilts?
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 2 года назад
Hi there! In this video I used Heat N Bond Ultra Hold but really any of the Heat N Bonds would work just fine. I've also recently been using basting spray instead of the Heat N Bond. I got into Embroidery and for that you use basting spray and while working on an embroidery project I thought, I could use this for the back of jerseys instead of the Heat N Bond. The up side of using basting spray is that you don't see the shine through the jersey like you would see the Heat N Bond shine through the jersey.

What do you do with the parts of the t-shirts that you don't use? I'm making three t-shirt quilts and have a trash bag full of backs and sleeves. It seems like such a waste to just throw them away.
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 6 лет назад
Well, I used to save them so I could piece them into scrappy quilts to donate to the homeless. But, my quilting waiting list got so long I had to stop doing that as I didn't have time. You could also post it on Craigslist, either free tshirt scraps or you could charge like $10-$20 for a whole trash bag full of scraps. Someone in your area is bound to want them. :)

Since I used Heat n Bond Ultra on a lot of the shirts in the quilt I'm making, it feels stiff like canvas. Will it soften up after it's washed? Also, will I be able to quilt it? Did not have any problems with glue build up while sewing the Ultra bonded blocks together.
@SegoviaQuilts
@SegoviaQuilts 2 года назад
Hi Naomi! After a few washes, it will soften up a bit, yes. But, there will be that stiffness there for a while as it will take some time. You can try washing and drying in hot water and high heat to help break down the heat n bond just make sure the fabric you used can handle higher temps. And be mindful of color bleed from the fabric as well. If you should have any color bleed, DO NOT DRY IT! Keep washing until the bleed comes out. It might take 1 or 2 washes but so long as you dont dry it, the bleed wont set and it will come out. Yes, quilting won't be an issue so you can quilt it like normal. 👍
