I always add a tag of masking tape to the wire with an abbreviation of the item on it, this helps if you have multiple circuits and need to identify them some time in the future.
Equire, am i glad i finally found your video accross this side of the pond, where i can fully understand what you were, doing, in the uk, i am going to have a go at wirering my dashcam and a pair of Day light lights on my vechile, i was a bit perturbed about the ACC wire whwere does it goes and i was wrecking brains out. thank you very much for a calm existing video and very informative vid. cheers Hans.
Mel you absolutely smash these tutorials and I think you need to do more like this . Brilliant stuff I’m convinced you give people the confidence to give it a go . 5 stars and thumbs up . 🤜
All good stuff Mel! I was on Foresty Forest channel and was reviewing an electrical issue which turned out to be a "overheated" piggyback. Of course I'm not sure the draw he was asking it to do but it caused him to breakdown ! Anyway, just thought I'd mention it..... Great idea for a quick install. 👍👍
@@Celt_Downunder that’s ok it means you have plenty of time to plan your build remember your diver training plan your build. Build your plan !! Or something like that 🤣😂😅👍
Always Handy to have A Few in Electrical box, Good Easy Vid for Novice... Assuming Fuse Box is Accesable and Not a Dash Strip .. "Going Right into the Bush" Thats what She Said 😆 Actually she did 😄😃😂
Hey Mel, you’ve cracked it buddy! The image quality seems plenty good enough for in cab vlogging to me. But the real improvement is in the audio from your new microphone. It’s so much better than before mate, top job all round now I’d say. 👍 Regards, Dazza. 🇬🇧
Another great vid Mel, the Mic is certainly a lot better than your previous run out. The Video quality is spot on for adding to vlogs. Look forward to more
Useful bits of kit and have used them myself, makes wiring easy especially in a vehicle that’s leased or under warranty as you are not actually interfering with the original vehicle wiring.
Hi Mel great video good tips and the dash Cam works very well the audio on it is very good as well keep up the good work see you on waffle on Wednesday lol. Ralph
Hi Mel. Just thinking on this - I think it'll matter which way round you have the fuse holder? If you have the unit the wrong way round you'll bypass the fuse completely for the piggyback side. So to fit it you should pull the original fuse out then check which side of the fuse is the live side, then make sure that your new cable from the piggyback unit is coming from the opposite side of that fuse. I know that was explained badly, but hope you get the gist?
This is the question I was going to ask so it always makes sense to read some of the other comments first. Potentially a fire hazard if the fuse is drawing power from a different pin in the fuse box.
@@BigVanSmallWorld Sorry, I meant that after you discovered the bottom row of fuses were always live, was there more than one fuse in that row you could have used or did you have a close look at what that fuse was powering - or does it not matter which 'live' fuse you used? Hope that makes sense, no worries if it doesn't!
Since you care...foresty forest over here had a failure..found piggyback melted blob. Neither fuse blown. My concern is resistance..I know you understand. A lot of Amazon electrical is crap...concerned that the cheap metal, cheap crimps and yes cheap fuses. The contact resistance goes up,heat, melt, fail. A source of brand name USA,UK product with a high qa is not in order. This applies to crimp kits too..got caught....take care
Hi Mel, I Always watch your vlogs and follow them with great interest. Do you know anyone in the Kent area that would be interested in doing some carpentry work on my relay? I need kitchen drawers and doors made and overhead lockers. I have most of the timber, but a knee injury is preventing me from doing this...it nearly finished...a weeks work for someone, should see it done! Cash work obviously 👍
Nice video Mel picture looks great to me! I do have a Little question for you as I know nothing about wiring , am I likely to blow all the fuses by touching something I shouldn’t with the meter probe ? I was once told a little knowledge is dangerous ! Thank you 👍👍👍😎
I am finding my way around my campervan and trying to do work myself (to save money) I went out and located the fuse box on my Vivaro and if I understood this correctly, I can piggyback something to a fuse that is already running something else? So maybe the fuse for the headlights, I could piggyback my front camera to the same fuse so that it will only come on when the headlights are switched on? There are also empty fuse slots. could I just fuse something into one of those without piggybacking? Apologies for what is probably a stupid or obvious question. Thanks for the video, really helpful :)
Mel. You must be storkin me , Only this morning Sunday, I was setting up my dash cam and thinking I need to hard wire this But I only have a cig connector so I think I need to source a new connection. I have a Nextbace cam.?
Beltin video Mel and the footage looks good! I hesitated getting some piggy back fuses as i needed to check what was live etc but now i can thanks to your video 👍 cheers @bettyourcampervan
Really well made video, but unfortunately doesn't cover what I need. You show an example of 'permanent' and 'ignition', I would like to wire in a usb socket (or split into two) NB not a cigarette lighter type style, but just a 'hidden' socket, so I can use any car accessory that connects using a USB-A cable (hidden away, instead of using the usual cigarette lighter adapter). To me, this is an obvious piece of kit. They exist, but they all appear to have two wires, +/-, with instructions to plug directly into a battery. So ... is it possible to terminate the two +/- wires into a piggy back fuse??? Your video shows a single wire from the dash cam going to the fuse, is that a positive (+)? In that case, were does the dashcam get negative (-)? Is what I am after possible?!?!?!
Hi but if an issue,I need help basically my daughter just bought a Vw polo, with after market stereo, there is a red wire crimped to a spade connector which is slotted in to the fuse box, it’s an ignition live circuit, but the spade connector is a poor connection,so I’m thinking of using a piggy back fuse, but as currently r spade connector is plugged into fuse board,so the slot that it’s plugged into has power from back of fuse box,if I fit a piggy back fuse will I have to put a fuse in to piggy back fuse?as all I want to do make the currant connection secure, There isn’t any fuse at the ministry in the slot on fuse box,if you can make out what I’m trying to explain any help or advice will be appreciated
@@BigVanSmallWorld what amp fuse would you recommend, and is that correct about piggy back fuses, there is a right and wrong way of fitting the ,I really need all the help and advice I can get,
Shouldn’t consideration be taken to the size of the fuse you are piggy backing from? You don’t want to be piggy backing from a 10a fuse out the box, with a device with a 20a fuse for example.
