How do you protect the SDR from overload or RF when transmitting? I have something similar for the older FT-950, and @ 100 watts, the SDR shuts down. I presume, too much RF.

Thanks for the information. I wouldn't have thought to add additional waterfalls to the 10, but as broad as the second output provides that can easily become the primary screen.

I performed the upgrade to the FTDX10 and works as described but it doesn't work on the lower bands below 160 meters. It does not send the RF through on the AM and LW bands. Any ideas?

Sent away for and received the PAT board a few days ago. Tonight, I opened up the FTDX-10, excited to install the board and get it going.... until I saw and realized how SMALL the components and landing sites for the wires are! Things look MUCH bigger in the video. I'm decent at soldering and have a good digital electronics soldering iron with fine tip, but I'm not about to attempt soldering to something that small to get to the +8V supply. (The RF output lead looks small, but doable, and the ground can be easily picked up as shown in the video.) I read in the comments below that there is an alternate site to pick up +13V that would work. I would like to know where that tap is (or any more-accessible spot for +v suitable for the PAT board). Taking the +8v from the side of a surface mount micro-resistor requires a microscope, extremely small tools, and an impossibly steady hand!

Updating my own post a couple of days later... This mod is not for the faint of heart, but I finally worked up the courage to attempt it and did successfully install the PAT70 board in the FTDX-10 using the method and connect points described in the video. It works great. So great, in fact, that I just ordered another PAT70 board for my FT-911a.

Great, but I have a question: if this modification introduces an attenuation of the signal received by the FTDX10. Have you noticed if installing the kit at the tap point leads to a decrease in the signal level received by FTDX10? Thanks

I ordered a kit for my FT-991 yesterday. The screen is too small and I wanted a full-time waterfall/panadapter. Yaesu wants FAR too much to upgrade my 991 to a 991A and I would still have a small screen. It's nice to know this same adapter can be used on the FTDX10...which is the next HF radio I'll be purchasing. I was hunting for install video's and here I am.

Thanks for sharing your project. I wonder, why you take the signal after attenuation and preamps (after the SCP AMP) and not the RX signal before RL3001. So the SDR would be independent from the radio settings? 73 de HB9HDG Daniel

I've found the FTdx10's native display to be good enough for operating, though I too sure wish they'd put a proper bandscope output connector on it. I hope someday they do a firmware update to allow more control over the display. But in the meantime, the "Full" and "center" display options are fine for my operating needs. Maybe when my rig is eventually out of warranty I might try this mod, but it's not high on my list. I do have SDRPlay's RSP1A, connected to an MFJ-1708B RF switch, triggered by the FTdx10's linear activation line (bought a cable from someone on ebay). I also made a small power switch so I can click the SDR in and out. If the power's off, the RF switch is just a passthrough. So if I want to use the SDR, I just turn it on. It has complete access to the antenna's feed. Clicking on the SDR display will tune the FTdx10, and with the RF switch it will also be controlled by the FTdx10's transmit status. Basically, the same net result, but I didn't need to solder anything into my shiny, new, under-warranty, rig. I did a similar mod to my Icom IC-7100, but just a straight tap without an isolator board. It worked ok, but I prefer the RF switch solution.

@Tech Minds Hi,when I took the bottom black cover off I noticed the Gray fluffy Insulation type material by the Fan just over the USB inputs before I pulled the grey/shielding cover off it was sticking out just as yours in the video was at 2:11. In the next frame you can clearly see it sticking up over the USB Inputs next to the DVi interface. And you see it again at 3:42. I noticed at 4:46 when you reinstalled the shielding cover the Gray insulation in tucked under the shielding cover over the USB connections. I noticed the same thing when I did this. The gray insulation was sicking up before I pulled the gray shielding cover off and thought it didn't look right sticking out like it was, so I folded it over when I reinstall the shielding cover and it seem to be a perfect fit. My FTdx10 was made at the end of 2022. Do you think it should be left sticking out or folded over like you & I did.???

Not having the board layout or schematics, I am wondering where there is a more-accessible +V (13V or other suitable level) located? Where did you pick up the +13V tap? (I'm not about to attempt to pick up +8V from the side of a surface mount capacitor that small.) Also, in the location of the original +8V tap in the video, are those two resistors connected back-to-back in such a way that a solder bridge between them would be usable for the +v tap? I couldn't tell, looking at my board, whether they are both connected to the +8V line or not. It would be a lot easier to tap there if one does not have to worry about bridging the two resistors with solder. In fact, just visually looking at the board, it appears that they might be bridged by the PCB traces? And it looks in the video like that might have happened when the example board was installed? Follow-up: I was able to locate the Technical Reference Manual with board layouts and schematics, and it looks like those two resistors are connected to the same PCB traces, so a solder bridge between the two surface-mount resistors should be acceptable. I may still choose an alternate site to pick off +V.

just ordered the FTDX-10 so are you saying that although it has the DVI-D output it still does not allow for clicking on frequencies on the external monitor?. (would need a toutch monitor obviously). What about if you have a USB Mouse and Keyboard fitted to the radio via it's USB ports, would that then allow clicking on frequencies from the external monitor? Also could you answer a question for jme please, I have a Pat70 board in my FT-857D however it seems to be playing up, I am wondering if L3 on the PAT70 board should read a beep on a DVM set to continuity MODE? if you could check for me I would apreciate it as the other 2 inductors on the board do not register a beep. Nice one Mat. It's a shame that manufacturers deliberately leave off hardware/software features where there is room for. Its all about getting you to upgrade to the next model up. For this reason I'm back to using my 590s over my 7300. If the 7300 or DX10 had 2 x ants & 1 x rx as well as an IF tap it would be heaven.

why do I need a panadapter when the ftdx has the spectrum and the waterfall...so what would this device give that the radio does not
@TechMindsOfficial

Personally, it’s all about control and how much of a band I can see at the same time. With the pan adapter, or software, I can quickly tune to a station at the click of a mouse, I can also see the entire selected band on my 4K monitor. Of course, you could connect a mouse and keyboard to the FTDX10 and use an external monitor, but it’s down to personal preference I guess. One other added bonus is you can use the pan adapter as a second receiver, which the FTDX10 does not have.

@RobB_VK6ES
@RobB_VK6ES 2 года назад
@@gabrielsansar6187 That is not quite how it works. If you sample at the IF of a superhet radio then the RX bandpass filter will greatly attenuate frequencies other than those of the currently selected band. If you sample at the signal frequency (antenna) prior to any bandpass filtering or frequency mixing then it would be possible to monitor two widely spaced signals. The sampling board used here is optimised for IF operation but there is a sister board, the PAT-V which has no filtering and is designed to directly sample the signal at the antenna port.

Yaesu is again falling back - They should just release public their command set for USB port so people can adjust SW like SDR Connect and others for communicating with it. I guess they are not allowing it because of few buck they would lose some $ from LAN10 remote control sales. Yaesu has all in place for us to have full size panadapter and control of FTDX10 over USB but do not want to put it in public domain. Pity. On that USB port on FTDX10 and FTDX101 there is audio "sink", spectrum "sink", command and CAT "sink"- you can see it with TCP UDP streaming ports 50000,50001 etc... That data is taken from USB and transformed to UDP stream in SCU LAN10 control box. Same job can easily be done with Raspberry Pi + lot more ... Let us hope someone from Yaesu will realize what mistake they are making just to keep profit from few sold SCU LAN10 modules.
