I places more than 4000 games on a 64GB USB stick (FAT 32 formated), but i could see them all. I think it is also not possbile to make folders under the "THEA500-Games" folder
I think the entire game library counting the CD games is about 25GB, compressed. Probably a lot more when counting different release versions, public domain and countries.
My Amiga mini arrived today😃 and it amazing. I pre-downloaded everything ready. Packed with 300 games and still more to download. Beats paying hundreds of pounds for sweet Nostalgia.
One note I find that you need to download all games you want but won't play from zip I had to Add to (I use 7zip or whatever you have) then zip icon changes to a folder. I've tried only 10 games so far and all work. Tried Sly Spy, Monkey Island, Last Njnja and Shadow of the beast to name a few.
I've considered getting this knowing you can add games, I still have the Amiga folders from the Super Console x and have been playing them on an Emulator with some intriguing results.
@@CrazyBurger - We didn't get the 16-bit console ports here in the States, so for those of us who couldn't afford a PC we had to have a 3DO or Jaguar to play this one or else wait 5-6 years until the GBC handheld port came out...I'm enjoying the Mega Drive port on the Evercade/VS now though!
Great, easy to follow guide. Thank you. I am having a strange problem, slowly copying games I want from WHDLoad. Up to letter L. When I am having a look on the A500 Mini, all games from G to J are missing? Any ideas?
Thanks.. depends how you are copying. There are limits to what you will see on screen. 256 lines apparently. So need to sort your games into A to Z folders.
@@CrazyBurger All good, your first bit of advice worked. You are a star. I don't use youtube much but for what it is worth will subscribe to your channel. Thanks again.
i dont know why not that work i have kingston usb stick and i did the same thing a500 mini say your usb stick does not have a500 WHDL load package installed
Hi, did you get the Amiga Workbench working on it? I have found a lha image of Workbench 1.3. It installs a file, but nothing happens after that. Just a black screen.
Did you try running Cannon Fodder? Another video stated the downloads on the whddownload site are just a wrapper, I'm trying to work out how to embed an adf if so
I was hearing this site just hosted the “wrapper” to, and that you need the actual games?!, I couldn’t even begin to work out how to attach a floppy drive to the a500
@@OpticalChaos no for now I don't think that's the case but legally I believe they expect you to own all the games you download and play already. I'm sure there will be a device out there that will let you play on a floppy drive via usb
I followed the directions in the manual to a T and it does not work. 32MB flash drive, Fat32 format. Moved all the files where it said. Amiga Mini won't recognize flash drive. I'm stuck with the 3 good games out of the initial 25 :(
i made it exactly like this but when i start the game i just get a black screen. you have had this problem or know what i did wrong. i tried some games as giana sisters, dune II
@@CrazyBurger So i got a 8gb usb stick formated fat32 first folder is "THEA500" and then i got some .lha files (in windows they are showed as winRARarchive files is that right?
strange. I tested it with a sandisk usb stick 32 gb and the USB Icon comes up for a second, but then disappears. No matter which usb port I use. On my pc the stick can be found without any problems
Another great video. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately my better half cancelled my A500 mini pre-order due to the delay as she wanted to have something to give me on my Birthday. Bonus is that she got me an Astro City Mini instead #Result I'll probably pick up the A500 mini at a later date but really disappointed that Workbench is not included and that it's a bit of a faff to get it working via a workaround.
Lol ah.. though that's still a cool present. I'd love one of them. I'm sure you will get the A500 at some point. Yeah I noticed workbench is possible but with a bit of work. I'm sure that it'll be easier at some point. I think we will see lots of hacks and additions through the next few months.
@@CrazyBurger Yeah, the Astro City Mini is very cool and with a Mayflash Magic NS you can get most controllers to work with it. I use my modified Venom Universal Fightstick which just required me to rotate the wiring for the four RHS buttons to match the official Astro City Arcade Stick and my wireless Retrobit 8 Button MegaDrive controller works great for when I'm just chillin' :-)
Not thrilled about the prospect of whdload, to be honest, OTOH I guess it is the best way to ensure most of the games are playable on this system. What I am REALLY sad about, is the fact that there seems to be no way to load a proper Workbench where you can install and use productivity programmes. I am sure it will come, after all, the Amiga was an incredibly advanced computer for its time, and even into the 2000s there was no good way of reliably emulate even the A500 at a reliable decent speed throughout, which says something about the complexity of the computer itself. Can't wait to get mine though, I do have an unused pc keyboard in reserve, and also a full Mac keyboard (that keyboard beats even the Amiga, I tell y'all, in how it feels ;) ) that I might have to borrow to see how the Mini handles..... Ahh, the dreams ;)
Great video. I was really agreably surprised at this 26th A500 Mini game. It's something that I was happy to see, it's that Retro Game Ltd know how to put their product forward. Offering a bonus game to encourage people to use the USB and WHDload is a perfect idea. And I was also surprised to see Bonus GAMES with an "s" that which clearly suggest that there will be more. That's awesome.
I had the same issue. You need to enable Options/ Expert-User Game Settings menu. You can enable this by going to "Options /Advanced settings and enable Expert mode" this will then add the "Expert-User Game Settings" to the menu in "Game Settings". Then go to the usb stick and select the .lha game you want to play, before you load the game click the menu button and choose Mouse as port one (both should originally be set as joystick) then CD32 pad or joystick as port 2 close and load the game. Mouse should now work
I can see you have LZH as file type, when I follow this I have LHA Reference to anywhere around 5:52, Would this make any difference? I see the game is CannonFodder_v2.0_0860.lha
Good spot.. honestly I've no idea why my pc had the file type as that. If you look at the filename it's .lha. This is what it should be. If you see this as the file type then it's good to go.
@@CrazyBurger @Crazy Burger Thank you so much mate! Im preparing a usb. I just purchased this a500 mini online. If I have further issues I will message here. :)
Thanks for the video. Got it today and can't wait to get stuck in. I had an Amiga CD32 when I was younger but didn't fully appreciate the Amiga (this was around the time when PlayStation appeared on the scene!). Question: Which Amiga games can play on A500? Everytime I search for a game, they come under CD32 or A600, so bit confused about which games they can play on the console.
I've just watched a vid b you've been gamed. He downloaded cd32 lha files from whdownload and they worked perfect. So try getting the cd32 lha files from them and hopefully.😀
Hi all I received my new A500-Mini today, loving it with the games installed....:) But I have downloaded the bonus game Citadel to a USB Stick after installing THEA500 WHDLoad Package, but I`m getting an error code when it tries to load. the code is DOS-Error #205 (object not found) on locking SaveDir "Saves:Savegames/" Am I doing something wrong? I would be very grateful if you can point me in the right direction
Hi Guys, I've tried a new 2.0 32gb USB Stick formatting at FAT32, and a factory reset via the menu but every game I try loading off the USB it comes up the same error has above. I`m just getting a bit frustrated with it now :( Is there a solution???????
I'm not sure its a straight forward process sadly. Done some research recently and seems it's complicated. I'm sure we will see more on this in the coming weeks.
Correct, yep. Unfortunately not every game will be there.. some folks will probably have a lot of .adf files.. need to do more digging to see if its possible. I think it can be done buy its complicated.
You can't, you need to be an amiga programmer to make a whdload version of a demo. But adf support is supposedly coming, so this issue should be solved eventually.
Don’t have a PC or Laptop, so borrowed a relative’s. Inserting USB auto named the USB Drive (E:) instead of USB (D:) in file manager right click did not bring up a menu to let me format it to FAT…. Grrrr!
I would like a video on how to get the 2nd mouse to work for Player 2; games like Lemmings and worms on the A500 Mini are unaffected and someone on the Facebook feed told me: "Try cloning the mouse port on both port 0 and port 1 in citadel config. Or load a carasoul game that supports 2 mouses and save the config. Then clone the control settings into your citadel save config." his words not mines
Has anyone got Summer Olympiad working yet? I'm not sure how to configure the controls? I read that the WHDLoad package that you download from RGL has 100's of game controller settings ready for use with your downloaded roms, but I understand you have to have the exact spelling / game title the same as in their list otherwise it won't work?? Has anyone seen a full list of these supported titles?
@@DaapDaap22 yeah.. I noticed a few of the larger channels that got the mini as a freebie barely touched on it. Having had a c64 mini, I know how many people out there need a bit of help to get started.
@@CrazyBurger I think lha is the compressed version of an Amiga game directory. Question then would be can you just use the directory, or does it need to be the lha?
@@CrazyBurger Yep- appears so! I went tothe site you kindly provided and got all the games I wanted, so I'll keep it simple and use the LHA files, since we know they work. They also work great in Retroarch with the Amiga core. Been testing a bunch!
@@rushmore3927 Awesome! They actually work better and far more reliable than adf files. Plus adf files you could have multiple discs.. so not clear how you would load the 2nd disc for example. With .lha we don't need to worry about that.
Yeah it does actually. If you unzip the games they are in alphabetical order each in it's own sub directory. At least it was on the site i got them from that will remain nameless for legal reasons lol.
OK just had a look. You need to change the game settings. Before you start, press menu and change joystick port 1 to mouse. Now you can start. Click the mouse to pass by the menu screen. You can now play with joy pad. You might need to use the virtual keyboard to start a game pressing F1.
@@CrazyBurger Hi again, dragon ninja worked thanks. I am trying to play forgotten world's now but it doesn't go further than choosing to play as player one or two. You have to press F1 but the virtual keyboard doesn't appear when I want to select it.
mine doesnt look like a file folder it looks like the Notepad what im i doing wrong Ive watched this a few times Now please Help my dad wants more games
Mmm take it put the zip file maybe? Make sure it's also named as per the video. TheA500 folder should be at the front or top of the usb folders. Unzipped.
Sometime I envisage a world, where instructions like copying and pasting a f*cking folder to a USB drive doesn't take a 10 minute video. Honestly, i get people want to be informative but around 95% of content these days has literally f*ck all to do with the actual task in hand. And....breathe.....
OK this part is a total pain. Not all USB sticks are compatible. Ideally use a 32gb or less and format to Fat32. Any larger and you'll have issues. Also some type of usb, won't work. I recommend a San Disk Cruzer Glide. All game formats need to be .lha.. get these from whdload.com.
