The appeal for Evercade Is being able to expand you're classic library with cartridges We got the street fighter cabinet which Is cool but also means I can't play them handheld or on the VS same thing here, I love Atari and If I was going to get a pocket this Is the one I'd get but It still sucks having them stuck on there I love the idea of a wooden looking game boy that plays Atari games
The irony is that it is probably cheaper to buy a retro handheld like the ds or psp and purchase the compilation games for still cheaper than the evercade plus you get access to tons of other games
This just doesn't make sense you have a system which is designed to just add new cartridges but choose to keep making new consoles that do the same thing, also this must be incredibly bad for the environment churning out more plastic.
I only found out about these right now (22 hours after the announcement) but the Atari woodgrain edition (with the carrying case) is already *SOLD OUT* ! ☹️😭
@@tedcruz1774 no idea.. time will tell. I'd suspect that they've perhaps been able to do something as they previously didn't add it to the carts due to those issues
My concerns are this could be a template for future Super Pockets. Take legacy collections and licenses and release them as super pockets rather than new Evercade cartridge collections.
that technos one is very nice! would you recommend any covers that work for the super pocket outside of the ones blaze have brought out? i had bad consumer experiences with funstock and game :(
This is an absolute no from me. I really don't see the point of this. Almost all of these games are already available on the cartridges. Yes I know some have gone legacy. But this is the most blatant form of a cash grab. This pretty much confirms we won't be getting any more techno's cartridges. And they have the audacity to show the limited to a certain number on the wood grain edition Just to trigger the OCD for those worrying about missing out. Oooh 70s Atari woodgrain nostalgia. It's Just an outer shell. After I got the taito edition at the end of last year. I haven't touched it since then. Blaze really are pushing it's luck with the constant hardware. Just focus on more cartridges.
I would have loved to have been able to preorder the woodgrain, but I just can't afford it this month. If the website had accepted Paypal I would have been able to scrape the pay in 3 payments option, but I just can't, so I'll have to settle for the normal red and black one later on, which also looks good. I do like how they have mixed up arcade, 2600, 5200 and 7800 games, rather than just filling it with fifty 2600 games, it shows they care more about the actual selection. The Technos one looks good too, I'll put that on the list as well, although I was pretty lucky to get the Technos 1 and Duke Nuken 1 collections together second hand for 30 euros, and the Technos cart was still sealed!! At the way the prices are going, I think I was actually very lucky. At least I have the VS-R preordered so I can enjoy some Evercade on the big screen all of August... who needs the beach when you can have big screen retro?
This is not looking good. At the beginning this seemed to be a Capcom thing about their game licensing philosophies or something and that Taito followed suit. But all is pointing at decisions from Blaze and how the Evercade future is not looking good. Let’s see, we had great games at the beginning and then the Arcade collections stopped and it was all Cloanto, Embracer, PIKO and indies, then we started to lose licenses from Atari and Technos. But then, all of a sudden we get two bartop cashgrabs with Capcom, then we finally get to more arcade releases which showed that Blaze could have done them before with a company like G-Mode that keeps selling their games to anyone for pennies and another who seems very interested in selling their asset excess, Blaze just didn’t want it. And now, this. Two more impulse buy handhelds with licenses Blaze was glad to get for these but not for new carts or to release the existing ones. All this is pointing at very possible big losses for Blaze in cart sales, big enough to stuck with PIKO and Cloanto for their very low cost on licensing at the expense of having quality releases and keep the big names for the impulse buys, which are secured sales. I think that Blaze will be changing their strategy on the Evercade and their products soon. They will be shifting to the impulse buy handhelds and collectible mini arcade replicas with built in games like those other companies and they’ll be saying good bye to the Evercade with an announcement at the end of this year. Carts are simply not as profitable as gimmicky impulse buy collectibles.
I love this as a way of getting most of the Atari and Technos legacy cart games back in circulation in a roundabout way. I massively missed out on the Technos collection and love most Double Dragon titles so I’m definitely biased towards that one.
It’s really strange they included the Atari 2600 version of “Tempest” (which is an unfinished prototype) yet they didn’t include the excellent arcade version of that game. 🤷♂️
Let's just hope the button mapping is good this time. The Capcom edition is atrocious: the jump and action buttons are reversed with no way to correct that. And the customer service is incredibly bad.
@@8bitNLThanks for the heads up. 🙏 I was finally able to purchase the woodgrain by itself. For an extra €5 I would have chosen the one with the carrying case, but at least I was still able to get the handheld itself.
@@nikopro6462Yes, I saw that later. I wanted the one with the carrying case, especially for just an extra €5, but at least I was able to get the actual woodgrain handheld.
Brain Bender is a great puzzler, but my stars, the slowdowns!! i suppose it's limited by the Gameboy architecture but holy moly they could have removed the throttle to let it shine on the Evercade. it's almost unplayable :(
i would be happy with a Gremlin 2 cart. i haven't played all those Actua sports games, but consider my interest piqued! also since we have the first Zool, they kind of owe it to us to release Zool 2 (which i do have for the Jaguar, but could really use those save states!)
i'd like to hear from Super Pocket owners what your opinion is on the unit. i just received the Taito Super Pocket and the games are a great fit for the portable console. i find that some games just aren't ideal for it, for instance Cathedral. Big2Small and other puzzle games, and some platformers, seem ideal. i'm still deciding on how much i like the Super Pocket. it's great to have the portability, but i would rather have spent money on the EXP-R were it out now.
I think it's a really good handheld. I many ways better than the EXP. But not great for every game. Especially those that use the shoulder buttons a lot.
I’m ok with this. Obviously SNK would have been awesome, but the Atari (and Lynx) collections are some of the things that got me into Evercade in the first place. And I really enjoy the Taito HyperMegaTech. Between this and Toaplan 3, I’m very happy. And to piggy back on another commenter…Neo Geo Pocket and Atari Lynx seem like great ideas for future carts.
Nice one getting your vid out quick CB. Yes, these look good. I’m not a huge fan of the Technos Arcade cart but never got the console version, so will make my mind up nearer the time. The Atari special is on order already… wouldn’t be surprised to see that sold out this week. Out of interest, what Super Pockets were you expecting? I was sure you mentioned Technos before, but maybe I’m over-crediting you!
They're really blazing ahead with the Super Pocket program. Note to self: Don't get sucked in Darth, you gave up collecting several years ago. These are nice again, both very temping for the games and the aesthetics. Shame there's no SNK, I would 100% have bought a Neo-Geo one day one. The only thing that's a bit disappointing baring in mind we have N64 and PS1 games is no Atari Jaguar games, I would buy it day one if it had Tempest 2000 on it, bang the cans on me ears and go full Jeff Minter.
