Thank you so much for the tutorial! Your content is so, so good. I struggle to listen to more than 60 seconds at a time, due to your elocution/modulation. I'm ND, so probably a "me" thing (sensory) -- but it would be way easier to take in your excellent content if your speech/communication was better modulated. I don't mean to criticize; your work is AMAZING. It's just that the recording is, to me, extremely shrill and harsh on the ears, which means I can only take in a minute or two at a time. Probably a me thing; feedback meant well :)

Great tutorial! Psychedelic squirrels are never a wrong choice! ❤️🐿 Your advice to understitch the neckline is spot on. I love how neat and tidy the top of the zipper, self fabric, and lining all look. I personally have a really hard time getting the lining at the bottom of the zipper to lay right and line up all tidy. My solution is to sew the center back seam of the lining from the hem up to the bottom of the zipper before I attach it to the zipper. Then I do what you did to stitch it to the zipper tape.

This tutorial is fabulous! So happy I found your channel and have subscribed. I do have a question/request. Could you please do a tutorial about lining fabrics? I have some gorgeous voiles and lightweight linens that I want to sew up but they need linings. Since they are 100% cotton, is it essential that I use 100% cotton lining? If I prewash/preshrink both fabrics, can I use an Imperial Batiste to line dresses made with translucent or sheer fabrics that are 100% natural fibers? I can find imperial batiste at a local shop but it is a poly/cotton blend. The only other thing that I have found nearby is the Symphony broadcloth at JoAnn which is also an appropriate weight but also poly/cotton blend.

This is incredibly helpful! I have made lined dresses before, but I had a really hard time with the commercial pattern instructions around the zipper/outside fabric/lining fabric (I ended up hand-stitching the lining to the zipper tape, which actually worked fine, but was REALLY SLOW). THIS is awesome! Question: what are your thoughts on assembling the lining FIRST as sort of a "muslin" for a garment?
@SewAnastasia
@SewAnastasia Год назад
Thank you for watching. 💕 Why not assemble the self pattern pieces as your muslin sample ? I mean if the lining is the same sure but sometimes the lining is bigger so I wouldn’t suggest doing that for a test fit.

Thanks for the helpful video! When you attach the neckline of the dress to the lining, you sew at a 1/4” seam allowance. So you basically lose a 1/4” at the neckline of your dress? Would you recommend adding a 1/4” to the neckline if you’re starting from a pattern vs. an existing dress? Thanks again!
@LaurenTakitch
@LaurenTakitch 2 месяца назад
One more thing - how would you recommend sewing a lining in a dress with ruched sides? The pattern uses the side seam allowances for the channels of the ruching. I considered leaving the sides open prior to connecting the necklines, but then I end up with my fashion fabric on the inside of my garment. If I add the channels on both pieces separately first, then I need two sets of straps and the seams are bulky. I thought about using the inside of the lining/fashion fabric as the ruching channel, eliminating the need for the single fold. but I’m not sure how to do that cleanly. What’s the best option here? Any advice would be much appreciated!! Thanks again!

@SewAnastasia
@SewAnastasia Год назад
There are many different ways you can attach a lining. If you want it to be finished by the edge of the zipper how I did it then you will need to add an invisible zipper first. You can sew the lining to the dress 1st then treat the back like it is one piece of fabric and not two. The downside is that is you can see the seam in the inside. That way is a more fast fashion approach to it but hey they both work and there is a time and a place for all techniques. Thank you for watching.

Anastasia, thank Y💖U very much for this beautifully & fun essenced detailed guide. I really needed to see a quality review so I can start lining my own dresses. I’m sure you already know this & assume it’s a given, but for any newbie sewers; if could just make 1 suggestion that I learned that REALLY makes the difference for a finely tailored outcome. It is so important to get in the habit of PRESSING (not ironing back & forth) the seams after EACH time you sew them. For two reasons. 1.) It heals or closes back the holes made from the needle in the fabric. 2.) It leaves all your seams NICELY flat & smooth for a beautiful couture like finish. The result is a beautiful drape with no bulkiness or puckers.👗🪡🧵✨🎉💞🥰🎶 P.S. If your fabric is mid to high end buy 1/4 yrd of white organza fabric or pressing fabric & place it on top of your fabric, then press it. This ensures your beautiful fabric is not altered by the heat in any way (i.e. makes it shiney or dull.) Also, use the correct heat setting for that specific fabric. Thank you again & HAPPY SEWING✨💞✨

So happy to find your video, it was easy to follow how to add a lining to a dress with an invisible zipper. Thank you! Also, where did you find your squirrel pattern fabric? I love the fabric and such a beautiful dress. I will be dancing rock and roll on stage in a few months and your dress and the fabric would be perfect.

Your videos are so fun, and inspiring to watch, but also frustrating at the same time. I would LOVE to do that, but would NEVER be allowed to wear something like that! I get enough harassment for wearing a skirt, but WOW, if I tried to get away with that, .................... 😭😭😭😭😭

Thank you :) Huh sounds like you need to move to a new community. I am sorry to hear people are harassing you. That is so not cool. Maybe just ignore them and you be you.

@@SewAnastasia If it was only that easy, but it seems, If a guy likes skirts, and/or dresses, MOST people make assumptions about his sexuality! I just think we should ALL have equal freedom to express ourselves!

@@freakygardener8033 I'm a woman and my boyfriend is a beautiful androgynous man who wears make-up and dreamy fashion everyday. He needed to build up his confidence to get there though. Homophobic comments mostly don't bother him anymore. If it's actually dangerous where you live, you could at least start to wear your dream clothes at home if it brings you joy. You deserve to wear what you want and be who you are, it sucks that people are giving you a hard time. They're in the wrong. I hope you find a way to live your dreams 💖

@@veve7349 Thank you, for your kindness, and support. I appreciate it VERY much! Unfortunately, my family is is not supportive of my interests, and feelings, so I really can't do much at home. I have made myself a couple skirts, (which I no longer have), and I have a couple store bought as well. I have a project skirt, I'm trying to finish, but can't find the time to get back to. It's SO nice, to find kind, supportive people like you, but unfortunately you are RARE! Thanks again, and I wish you both the best.

What kind of fabric is best for lining?
@SewAnastasia
@SewAnastasia 2 года назад
Anything light weight. It could be thin cotton or a satin or a china silk or a rayon bamberg.

Sure. What exactly do you mean by a collar band ?

I am sewing Butterick Pattern B6852 and the collar band instructions are not clear. The collar band attaches to the collar and then shirt. I save ALL your instructions and refer them them often. Love, love, love your tutorials. Thank you

Is this the same dress that you put in bra cups into in a previous video? I am assuming they would be sandwiched in between the finish fabric and the lining? Great video. Clear instructions.
@SewAnastasia
@SewAnastasia 2 года назад
Yes it is! You are so right. The bra cups are in between the layers.

Question, for that blue dress, what’s the sheer fabric called that you use for the straps? I’ve been looking for something like that and I don’t know what it’s called!!
@SewAnastasia
@SewAnastasia Год назад
It is an organza ribbon! Thank you for watching.
