fair play well explained on the new socket and lighting circuits chap..all round band is ideal to cover fire regs,not to hard to make it look decent if u want everything to look symmetrical like most sparks should!?on a price point them metal clips are silly money,hard to cost a job using them as customers wont be 2 happy paying 4 them!keep up the good work 😉👍

Must have been wired up by two sparkies and the one who wired the socket was colour blind! If there was nothing plugged in then the socket end was floating and wouldn't have been an issue. If something was plugged in, then it would have been powered from the neutral pin that was wired to Line, so would have 230V and then back down the earth connection, that was connected to the Live pin, all the way back to the incoming supply where neutral and earth are bonded together. As long as the load was less than 30mA load, no RCD would have operated. Good find though 👏👏

Glad someone figured it out! A landline phone was plugged in 👏🏼

Got there before me 🤣 the landline phone will have an insulated earth pin too luckily

Be interesting to see if it was wired correctly in the plug end

It was wired normally as we found this ext lead during our insulation resistance testing 👍🏼

Nice brick work for a garage! Shame about the block pillars.

If it's normal 30mA RCD, 230V at 30mA gives you 6.9W of power. If the phone doesn't draw more than at (which is quite posssible), the RCD won't trip.

Exactly that , Basic stuff really

is it not easier to install a sensor light?...it goes on when you enter the door, without needing a light switch!
@byardelectrical
@byardelectrical Месяц назад
Yes you could install one, however they're not always as reliable as standard light fittings and can have issues with the sensor. This client, like most, just wanted the standard light switch :)

can you please explain how the wiring was done for the second socket? I see you added an fcu and then connected the 1st socket off of that, but what about the second socket?
@byardelectrical
@byardelectrical Год назад
Second socket wired off the first socket, so FCU > Adjacent socket > Second socket

@@byardelectrical how did you fit 2 x 2.5mm twin and Earth in the conduit? I’ve tried it before and struggled or did you use singles?
@byardelectrical
@byardelectrical Год назад
@@skywalkermahone9219 pretty standard for 2x 2.5 in 20mm conduit, will go in quite easy just got to make sure the cables are straight

No load on the phone that's why it worked
@Ben-gm9lo

The live is correctly wired, just the neutral and earth are swapped. Probably worked as not on an RCD or RCBO. Keep up the good work team! Like your videos.

Hi, you are wrong I'm afraid, looking into a UK 13A socket, the left hand pin is the N and the right hand pin is the Line, the brown should be where the Green/Yel is.

Nice one but you just know someone is going to unplug that garage door supply at some point

Not our install Mike but they are usually wired on plug tops like this
@Mike_5
@Mike_5 Год назад
@@byardelectrical Very good point as a lot of these quick installs are done by people with absolutely no electrical qualifications hence the plug top style
@byardelectrical
@byardelectrical Год назад
@@Mike_5 funny you should say that. But yeah if we try to alter it they’ll probably just void their warranty so best left untouched

me being anal .. conduit saddles gotta line up
@byardelectrical
@byardelectrical Год назад
Yeah unfortunately they’d only put one saddle in on their existing conduit drops which wasn’t enough so when I put two in it didn’t line up 🤣 let me know what you’d have done knowing you don’t get paid for it? 🤔 would you fix just one drop or both or none at all? Would you have levelled the pattress like I did too? Interested to know!
