This is a tutorial showing the two common methods of adding soundfonts to a lightsaber using the Proffie 2.2 soundboard. This saber is using ProffieOS 5.7, and these methods are subject to change in the future. This video will not cover changing certain defines in the config file, gesture controls, or any of the sort. This is solely about adding soundfonts that you bought or got from a fontmaker to your saber, and attaching a blade style to it.

I have one ordered, I was going to get a cfx for obvious reasons, but they were sold out for the hilt/saber/whatever you call it. I went with a proffie just to be safe and finally get my hands on one. Do certain fonts not work on proffie boards?

Thank you for this video I've just purchased my first Lightsaber I have gone balls deep and gone straight for a Graflex proffie neopixel, After watching all your and others videos I just had to have one. It's crazy I've been Star Wars mad since 1982 but never really thought about purchasing one until now I can see what they can do. This is going to be SOOOO helpful!!! The driver and flashing of the board is almost EXACTLY the same thing I had to learn to flash my iFlight controllers for the FPV drones I build. I was so worried about having to learn all this and had been told how horrible Proffie was but from the dfu comm connection, to the config flash, to the driver issues; this is all stuff I had to troubleshoot and learn with Betaflight and BLHeli for Flight controller and ESC flashing when I tune my quad!!! The coding part reminds me a lot of the stuff I had to code in Marlin for my 3Dprinter when I built it (All the way down to having a config.h file; which is no shock because my printer's mainboard uses an STM32 processor chipset as well). Its amazing how these hobbies follow so many similar pathways!!! Thank you SOOOO much!!! I cant wait to get my final parts in (Waiting for my TGS Hilt to come in and my Shapeways crystal for my Crystal Chamber) then i can finish up my ANH Graflex.

Just make sure when you go to flash the board, there’s a chance it won’t compile as I had drivers on my computer that tried to use my Proffie, so I had to go in and remove them, select the STM32Bootloader in Zadig and use WinUSB drivers so that my board would be recognized. Stuff like external controllers, racing sim software and hardware, etc. can mess with Proffie boards.

Thanks so much dude, this really helped. Small addition though for anyone having the same issue with the Port in Arduino. In a lot of cases too, The first time you do it, it doesn’t have to say ‘Proffieboard’, it most likely just says ‘COM3’ or ‘COM(X)’. Once you upload it to that the first time, the next time you plug in your board, it will start to say ‘Proffieboard’

Here's where the fun begins...my Heirloom neopixel from Rebel Sabers is a Proffie; I'm not looking to adjust the blade styles for now, I just want to be able to add sound fonts. Glad I saw this to learn how easy it is; found the SD card, just gotta get a reader, and I'll be good to go.

This was the easiest video to follow on this subject so far. It's weird that they designed it in a way that the standard micro USB cable could possible cause damage but I'm really glad you mentioned that. I have a ton of them hanging around but most are probably from phones and Bluetooth headphones for charging so again I'm super glad you mentioned this! I hope you make more like this in the near future.

Thank you Paul! And yeah, it’s kinda sad that the current board does not support micro USB cable charging, but the Proffie V3 board (pending release hopefully this year) should support it, so mess ups with the wrong cable may actually be eliminated and go unpunished there. It makes it very convenient, and eliminates a bit of the risk, so that’s really nice in my opinion. But until then, we all have to be very careful with our cable management around the Proffie 2.2, I keep all of my data cables far away from all of my charging cables.

thank you for making it easier to understand. As a person who had to go off of 4-hour youtube videos and just reading the manual over the course of 16 hours, this helps others avoid the pain I went through. Also I never had an issue with cables, if it wasn't a data cable nothing happened for me. Would avoid using a non-data cable though. Better safe than sorry.

This may be a stupid question, but do you need to still take out your micro SD card and use the card reader if the saber has a micro usb slot (eg. LGT sabers have accessible micro usb port for charging). Can fonts etc be transferred that way with a data cable or is it solely for charging and you still need to change things via the reader and card itself?

Just got my first proffie 6.* saber - last ones were 5.9. Not sure why, but this new one is programmed with 6.5, instead of the latest 6.7. I really like 5.9, and after trying 6.5, I like 5.9 better and want to re-program the new one down to 5.9. I have programmed the 5.9 sabers with both the Easy Proffie and Arduino methods, so i am (somewhat) familiar with those methods. Do you see any issues with downgrading from 6.5 to 5.9? I know that I have to add a "Common" folder onto the SD card for the sound to work properly. What about the blade styles that are currently in place - do you think I will lose them when I go down to 5.9? If so, can i cut and paste those styles into the 5.9 OS, or is their programming for 6.5 different from 5.9? Thx much for your thoughts and help on this!

Nice video. I hold onto a basic text file with my blade profiles by font. If I get a new saber or want to change one up, it’s just a matter of copy/pasting them to the config. Personally, I always have to use Zadig. Not a big deal, but it does make it a build requirement that I have access to the board. Must have access to the boot/reset buttons.

When trying the easy method, I replaced some of the existing .wav files in one of the font folders with one I created and used the exact same file name and extension, but the sound does not play through the related saber action. Is there something particular to do when creating the sound files for them to work when placed in an existing font?

Hey, Lando.. So, I have an SD Card Reader and I essentially wanna remove some soundfonts on my SD Card, from when I bought it (I haven't gotten 'round to buying and adding any new ones yet), but I have the Anakin Ep.III NeoPixel Proffie 2.2 saber from SabersPro and yeah, I basically wanna remove (i.e straight-up delete so they're no longer on the card and clean-up any stuff left behind so the saber is clean of them) soundfonts like Ultron, Highlander, Stargate and a few others. Am I good to just go into the SD Card folder and just delete those specific folders or is there something extra I need to do? I do intend on replacing/adding NEW soundfonts and such later on, once I've gotten 'round to buying them. Thanks, in advance.

@@blake_1146 I'm not going to lie, I was so happy when I got it. But only a week after, the audio started to crackle, pop, and cut out after a few seconds. I will credit them, their customer support got to me very quick and suggested I ship it back. So we will see how it goes.

@@wombatfour372 for me the audio is only slightly crackly on some of the fonts when you swing it hard, do you have the proffie neopixel version? If you do the one we have is like literally the cheapest proffie neopixel you can buy anywhere, so I wouldn’t expect top notch sound from it. Where are you based by the way?

I do have a neopixel, and what I mean by crackle is it actually had decent audio for the price, but when I turn on my saber it crackles and literally POPS for a few seconds, then turns off. Finally getting around to getting it handles though.

My saber has OS 5.9 on it. I have been using Easy ProffieOS customization to add additional styles. I screwed up and partially damaged the board...it still works, but there is a crackling sound, the button is messed up, and now when I add new styles, the font gets "/common" added to it, which then plays the message "font directory not found" when I select that style. I ordered a new Proffie board to replace the original one. Is there a way to copy the config that has been modified using the Easy ProffieOS method using this method in your video to transfer over to the new board? I've watched several videos of this arduino/zadig method, and they show creating/moving a new config file to the board, but none address copying/modifying the config that is already on the board itself. Is accessing the config that is on the board already simply not possible?

if say I do not own a micro SD card reader, is it okay for me to add both the new soundfont & blade style through micro USB data cable? i.e. the micro SD card remains inside the saber. All tutorial I see tells me to take the micro SD card out and plug it into a computer, but am wondering whether you can do both fine through cable

Hey man. I just downloaded Rescue from Ksith then copied all the individual tracks and sounds and pasted them into the "Ascension" font folder on my sd card. All the blade fx are there, however when I double-click on Proffie I still get old music and not the new tracks. Any help with this?

Hello Lando Sabers, I recently bought a Kylo Ren Proffie board lightsaber and I really want to add soundfonts and stuff. But I asked the person who I bought it from (Sean Solo Sabers) if I can turn off the "Unstable" effect. And long story short, he said it was "hard coded" into my saber. Do you have any idea if I can change that with the ProffieOS?

I went through all the steps on using the micro USB data cable and downloading arduino, copied and pasted the arduino plugin as well as the the 5.9 version download, but for some reason on arduino I go to the tools menu then boards and I do not see the proffie board. I am not sure if arduino is not detecting my proffie board; my computer detects my proffie board but not arduino. I recently got my saber from Crimson Dawn 3 days ago.

Im having a confusing issue. Once i verify my config and plug in my proffieboard it comes up as butterfly-l433cc. I will go to board and select proffieboard v2 and it will show proffieboard v2 on com3 in the bottom right corner of the program. Once the sketch begins to download to the board it will then say proffieboard v2 not connected but yet it will go through the whole download procedure and i will get an alert from the saber once its done but yet i will not have the new sound font and blade style when i go to test it.

So I'm looking to find the config file on my micro sd card but it has a folder on there called 'sd config' and when i open it up it shows me a dozen config files, so I don't know which to pick and to start editing? Also when I'm hooking up my proffieboard 2.2 to my pc with a data micro usb cable it always tells me to connect a compatible device in that specific drive, in my case :H.

Hey Lando, I bought the sound font “chosen one” from Ksith, and bought it so I could use the villain font and have the younglings scream when I deflect blasters. It comes automatically with the normal blaster sound, and I checked the extras file on the font I bought and it does include the screaming sound. When I copy those, and paste it into the blaster file (on the SD card) I have to delete the previous sound (normal blaster sound) after doing that and pasting the scream sound in, it doesn’t make any noise on my saber when I try to deflect blasters. It just hums like the saber is just on, resting. Can you please help me? Thank you

So if I have a character saber and all I want is one font for it, is it just a matter of deleting everything except what I want off of the SD card?

I dont understand. There is no config file on my sd card and you said thats okay they might not put it there so it is flashed onto the proffie borad but how do i get the config file then?

Just got my new saber, was wondering how I would be able to find my config file for my saber. I can't seem to find it and the only config file that shows says "installed=Mar 13 2021 22:32:31 volume=975 end=1" it's labeled "global" do i use this? i see no other config file with all the stuff that you see in the Aniflex file. Every other config file is shown in the fonts themselves but most of them dont have one, only two of the font files show 1-2 config files but match up to nothing like how the video shows. this is a cry for help.

Once you’ve downloaded the latest version at the start, how do you get that to the board, how do you update to the latest version and get it from your computer to saber

hello really a great detailed tutorial congratulations. I'm a novice I'm trying to learn how to configure with Arduino and to start I want to try the first method ... I have a small question the first method you show or go to insert a font in an already existing one on the sd card without connecting the sword to the pc by replacing the two fonts the style of the blade remains that of the old font but all the sounds of the new font change the typical smooth swing sounds or the sound of the character's blade by inserting a new font only does the visual aspect remain the same as the old font?
