I feel like we have come full circle. I found this channel in 2015 while looking for information on adjusting my derailure for my hybrid bike. after watching Clint's mtb videos and other RU-vidrs, I got hooked on MTB in 2016, This new video is better than the original, better camera angles and clearer sound.

Sir, did you find the this sram rival 22 mech has a yaw on the cage when in high gears, I’m looking at my unit and I see that it has a definite cage lower jockey wheel out as if to try and improve the chain line onto the front rings ? Or is my unit fault. I’ve been noting a little more noisy lately from the drive chain. Thanks you

superb video. cleared almost all ma doubts. I hv a Raleigh moonraker bike( < 1 month old). it has a 3*7 gear system. it has a barrel adjustment screw on the derailer side and on the handle gear side.. ma bike initially had shifting problems while tryin to shift from 5-6. it wont go and sometimes it wud jump to 7.so as I ws a beginner in cycling I approached a cycle shop and the guy over ter did something, and I left frm ter but ten every gear shifting ws affected. he tightened the cable from the derailer end very hard sayn tat the cable ws very loose& he did some adjustments on the barrel adjustment screw on both sides. nw the gear shiftin has prob in almost every shift ( not at all smooth)& it has some click sound in mainly 5th gear pls help me with tis issue. TIA Show less

When adjusting both limit screws, do you screw in both barrel adjusters on the shifter and rear derailleur? If you have 3 front chainrings (24 speed) which front gear, do you shift it in when adjusting the limit screws?
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 3 месяца назад
Shift into the large front chain ring for shifting the smallest cog and vice versa. I like to set the limit screws before adding any cable tension. You can push the derailer over with your hand towards the large cog. Or set the limit screw for the smallest cog and make sure it’s shifting well. Then set the limit screw for the largest cog

If you have three cogs on the front sprocket does it matter what gear it is in when you do this adjustment? Also, if the front derailleur is out of adjustment will that affect the adjustment of the rear?

Very nicely done as usual. Question, do you. or others, have any experience with the "Sprint" or "Euro" style bike stands. I am in the market for a collapsible as I live in an apartment and do my bike cleaning in one of the two parking spaces I have. Looking at the Feedback's both clamp and Euro. Thanks

@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs Год назад
Having a barrel adjuster on both just makes it a bit easier. If that’s the case, try to leave the barrel adjuster most of the way in on the shifter so it gives you more room to make adjustments while you were riding.

Sometimes it is advised that you adjust the highest gear sprocket, so that the jockey wheel is slightly on the outside of it rather than in perfect alignment.

For the front derailleur, backing out the barrel screw will of course put tension on the cable which moves the derailleur out.

the issue that I have is going from the largest cog(easiest gear) to the next cog down and vice versa, during climbing. I find that the gear shifts up to the largest then drops back to the second down from that. My question after watching this couple of times, is it necessary to adjust the limit screws if there are no other gears affected? Can I just make adjustments to the tension?
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 5 лет назад
first make sure the tension is proper on the cable. the best way to do this is to put it in your smallest cog, hardest gear, and then make sure when the cable is all the way relaxed and you shift to the next biggest cog that it shifts. And then keep shifting up the gears properly. If that's the case then it sounds like your low limit screw needs to be backed out slightly

Really enjoy your videos! My 10 speed Shimano XT shifts fine but when I back pedal in the 2 largest cogs the chain drops down to the 3rd or 4th cog, even if I am only back pedaling 1/2 a rev. How do I fix this?
@th_js
@th_js 6 лет назад
It's because of the chain line. And you don't fix it, that's normal for 1x drivetrains. Or adjust the chainline somehow
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 6 лет назад
I've had that problem with other Shimano Drive trains too and there was nothing I could do about it. Go through all of these adjustments and if it still does it that means it's kind of inherent with that drive train.

There are loud noises coming from the rear wheel cassette itself; it appears that the inner link of chain on smallest cog (high gear) was rubbing against the bigger cog's teeth when the pedal was being applied. Please your advice If I intend to adjust my rear derailleur, do I still need to slack the cable?
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 10 месяцев назад
It sounds like the cable needs to be slackened just a bit. Turn the barrel adjuster clockwise half a turn and see if that helps.

Great video on this! What would be a symptom of the b screw needing adjustment? Why is it more crucial with a larger low gear?
@ClintGibbs

Really the symptom will just be poor shifting. If you've done everything you can and it's still not shifting right just check the gap of the b screw
