All that does is increase pressure but doesn't take up slack from wear. You have to turn the other adjuster on the top where the steering rod connects. Best to take the whole thing out to adjust it.
. . . . . . There is a ring around the top. Some have holes some have notches for either a punch of chisel and you bump around and it will push it tighter together. Honestly I have only had to do it once many moons ago but I remember that and the nut and screw part is pressure relief and will blow your pump if it's turned to much

All hydraulics have to have them and are set with a gauge from the factory with minimal tolerance for increase. If steering is taking more effort to turn then a slight turn of the screw will increase pressure to make it easier to much then boom go the pump. Slack is on top the screws everything down tighter also minimal tolerance but a little goes a long way and if it doesn't help then it's time to look for another one as it is already to far gone but it will buy a little more time.
