If you have purchased a new or especially a used turntable that has an automatic start button, you may have come across a situation where the tonearm drops the stylus too far into the record or not far enough. This video is a tutorial to help you adjust the automatic start position for perfect placement!
Turntable used in this video is a Technics SL-D3

Ha! So grateful I came across this video. I have an ancient Technics SLQD33 and I treated her to a new stylus for Christmas… needless to say she decided to go “on the wonk” when I started tinkering about and I ended up with this very problem. Thing is when I initially looked under the rubber cover I saw no screws. After a bit of head-scratching and some good lighting I saw what I was looking for - more like a slot than an actual screw head so I got stuck in and fixed it. Thanks so much 👍

Excellent - I've been meaning to search for this since I got my Project/one DR-890 (allegedly identical to the Hitachi HT-561) hooked back up (since years ago 😞) over t-giving to play my late g-ma's xmas and big band albums (and my own of course). Another note - I also needed to adjust the auto start height, as it would slightly scratch during auto stop on non-perfectly flat records. I noticed another plug to the right of the start position adjustment, and sure enough... it adjusts the auto start height. 👍

Awesome video dude. Helped me diagnose this problem quickly with my SL-D3 . However after turning the screw counterclockwise it still did not go to the very start of the record, maybe half way between where it should be and midway through first track. Turns out it was my size selector which was gunked up, even though it was set to 12" it was still at 10" size, and after a clean of that switch all is working perfectly, which may help someone else with same problem. Thank you and keep up the fantastic and helpful videos! 10/10

@@StillSpinning3 Ok thanks. I asked him for further detail and he said that it came with the turntable originally to reduce vibration. He said I can still adjust the antiskate with the dial. I'll email a picture.
@len9518
@len9518 3 года назад
There was an auxiliary weight with the parts, that screwed in to the rear of the arm. It's only needed, if the cartridge is too heavy to balance the arm. That may be what you have. It has nothing to do with the antiskate. If you can balance the arm properly, you don't need it.

Go to vinylengine.com, create a free account, then search to see if they have a service manual for your model turntable. It should give you detailed info on fixing things like this.

Nooooo. You can do that first in the balancing weight to zeroing, then what ever weight your cartridge/stylus specifications needed should do the same with the anti skate dial. Let’s say 1 gram is the required for your stylus tracking weight then you need to put your anti skate dial to 1 as well.

This is true. This video is just a tutorial for when anti-skating doesn’t fix the issue.

So I have this same SL-D3. When I do all that and I set the tonearm and anti-skate to 1.75g (which is required for this TT) the weight seems to heavy now (yes I’ve adjusted many ways) and when the tonearm moves towards the plater/record it doesn’t lift high enough to sit on the vinyl. Please help.

@@06DeuceLet me clarify, your 1.75g does not required to that TT but it is required to your stylus tracking weight. You probably haven’t zeroed it properly, or you might get to buy a stylus weighing scale. The only reason it doesn’t touch your vinyl grove by your stylus is probably the weight you put is too light you just need to add more weight , most stylus tracking weight safe tolerances is up to 3 grams.

@@redbishop71 after a long process of messing with it I finally got it. But I am going to upgrade to a better cartridge. Thank you for the response.
