How to choose volume of playback of audacity itself? Theres a volume slider on the upper right, but it changes master volume of everything. I want to keep listening to YT, while doing something with a very loud track without changing volume of the track. Windows mixer is not convenient.
Adjusting volumes of the app is handled by Windows, or potentially a software like VoiceMeeter (voicemeeter.com) if you dont like the built-in Windows options. Hope that helps a little, it's not something I've ever dealt with in detail. Hope you can find what you're looking for!
Thank you so much. If you have a conversation taking place in one room between several different people, can all the individual voices be normalized? So you don't have to continuously turn volume up and down for each person speaking. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Hey, the only way I know to do this is to have each person with their own recording device (i.e. each person is on their own track in Audacity), that way you can normalise the track to the level you need. If its just one recording (all participants are on one track), I dont know of a cleaver way to normalise each voice - but if you want the entire track to be normalised then that should work.
How do you adjust the audio level before you start to record? For example: I made a recording and the band width was cut off on the top and bottom because it was too loud. So I wanted to adjust the volume lower and record it again. But, I couldn't see how to do this.
If your microphone is recording too loud, you can: 1. Look to see if there are volume controls on the mic itself 2. Move away from the microphone slightly so it isnt as loud 3. Adjust the operating system settings of the device. (On Windows, right click on sound in the taskbar and go to Sound Settings). You're looking for 'Input Volume' on the microphone 4. Adjust the recording levels in post-production, like this video demonstrates Hope that helps! Goodluck with your recordings
@@joe_cullen I’m not recording with a microphone. I’m using a turntable with a USB cable connected to my computer. I have some old vinyl from the 1960s that are not available in a digital format. I’m trying to get the recordings onto my iPhone so I can listen to them while driving.
@@miketennor5684 hey, usb devices like that usually have their own volume controls and software - you'll be best to look into that. If not, Windows should still be able to adjust the volume in, as long as it recognises it as an audio device.
I’m trying to find the volume control within Audacity. Is there one and, if so, where is it? The turntable has NO sound so NO volume control. It relies on external speakers to provide its sound. Each vinyl record comes into Audacity with different levels of volume. So I need to adjust the volume in Audacity. This seems to be an obvious necessity to be provided within Audacity.
@@miketennor5684 the recording device controls the sound coming in. As far as I'm aware you cannot control it in Audacity. The software, or device is responsible (and windows can usually control it too) you'll need something like voicemeter that is a software audio-mixer if none of these are working
That was helpful for lowering volume, but in my case there was a short period at the beginning of my recording that was lower than I wanted. After a couple of seconds, the audio automatically rose a higher level and then remained that way throughout the clip. How can I raise the volume level for the first couple of seconds? The envelope tool didn't help in that case.
If you select the first section of your audio (the bit that is too quiet) and go to Effect -> Amplify. You may need to play around with the settings to get it exact, but I believe that will fix it :) Please let me know how you get on!
