Yes you can determine the age of a fruit tree, and many other trees as well. Easy by looking at the branching pattern and locating past terminal bud points.

Great information! Thank you we just planted 17 fruit and nut trees on our desert property. We had to have an excavator come in to dig the holes some of which were 16 and 1/2 ft deep because of caliche clay. We then fill the holes with native soil, compost mulch, and microryza. After we planted our trees we put down wood chips and straw. Can hardly wait for spring to see how many survive.

Needed a close up view of the trunk. I see ur hand moving and pointing to specific interest. However the perspective is diminished by leaves in the way or the camera is not close enough.

Not as obvious to age an old tree unless it’s never been pruned.

@@StefanSobkowiak do you age apple trees the same way? I know it says fruit trees, I'll have to look at my new apple trees I just bought, the tallest point on them is about 8' tall and both have 1 apple a piece on them at the moment, I've been wondering how to age them, and only thing I've seen says they grow 13"-24" a year and just divide height to get max and minimum age, I'll have to check my trees this way next time I go out

I have 2 apple trees so tall they're taller than the house they must be at least 60 years old

Thanks! You mentioned, 5 years since the seed was put in the ground. Was that peach tree grown from seed, or seed planted and then cultivar grafted onto it? Either way, what kind of seed was used? Thanks! D

David Simpson it was a peach farm seed. Peaches are close to varieties, they tend to give similar fruit to the fruit the seed came from.

Do you guys really have a peach tree inside Quebec frontier? If so, is it a lucky surviver or it is something common in that part of the country? I live in Saguenay, so definetely not a place where peaches grow but I was just curious!

Play tree peach all the others have died. Try peaches from seed for Québec. You never know we may extend the hardiness to the Saguenay.
