Hope yall enjoy this! Was a special project I designed w/ my editor Ligh1s for the HCS Kansas City broadcast! 1/3 special ~1min breakdown videos (2 more on the way) can't wait to share the others!
Thanks for another great vid Shyway. Would be great to have a similar tutorial for the Commando. That weapon remains a significant skill gap, with many players unable to master it yet. Either way, keen to see your future projects
@@jackcolson4745 100%, found myself landing shots a lot more once I stopped adjusting my reticle with my mouse way too often. Place reticle neck level, strafe, slightly adjust as needed for jumps or crouchs.
@@omaarnukles072603 Yup, I'd add though to aim at the center of mass and then flick up for the final headshot. You land your shots more often when you're aiming at a larger target.
a lot of these same aiming philosophies come from older arena shooters such as quake and unreal tournament. Lightning Gun fights in Quake, while still require good aim, also require good movement because you are trying to match your strafing pattern to your enemy's so you barely have to aim with your mouse. its a 2 part technique where you aim with your movement to make it easier to aim with your mouse which greatly improves accuracy and Halo is one of the few games running today that still use it.
Still waiting for a quake pro to come across to infinite and break into the pro scene on kbm, as an old console player who switched to PC after reach came out it's all I wanna see in HCS lol. Might even inspire me to return to ranked
@@4bidn1not gonna happen. aim assist which controller is way too worth it to even bother with keyboard and mouse especially since halo isn’t necessarily a twitch shooter and relies mostly on tracking.
I was thinking the exact same thing if I was an organization owner before infinite came out I would have been trying to get a player or two from Quake on my roster.
@@Areeb118 The aim assist wasn't stupid strong in Halo 5, and the bullet magnetism was not exceptionally heavy compared to even some older Halos (H2 was pretty egregious, H3 is not far off H5 although projectile bullets makes hitting shots harder in practice). Everyone parrots this because the Sniper was ridiculous in H5.
@@Flygonial the reasoning behind flick shooting on h5 is that the magnum is a single shot weapon so, just like the HR DMR, it allowed for that. The BR on the other hand requires consistency because of the burst fire mechanic. That and the auto aim and magnetism values on infinite are completely different from previous halos. Someone made a video on it, if you want to learn more.
@@operative168 I watched it between my last comment and now, and considering that aiming was changed somewhat in H5 as well I wonder what could have happened in between.
Ive literally been doing everything to work on my BR. I go into solo duo win or lose just practicing my aim. I panic shoot too much. Trying to learn to relax
@@Wickedroonz he means over correcting or whipping the reticle around the target. Happens a lot when people realize the opponent is one shot and end up coating them the gunfight
Loved this. Really wish there were more in-depth videos on Halo aiming. It definitely seems to me that it's one of the biggest 'unknowns' in the game, because there are infinite variables to factor in
Thanks for this video I’ve been trying to teach a lot of lower ranked players how to aim better and been trying to explain this to them. I’ll be showing them this video when explaining the strafe helps micro movements for aiming
Man Shyway you are the GOAT! if only more people watch your videos to understand how much thought process/ teamwork goes into this game. Thanks for these dope breakdowns.
training the brain to move the R stick little as possible while engaging still is my biggest issue. *Every Halo before this has required constant adjusting the stick to aim or counter strafe. But now your priority is to move into your shots with L stick.*
@@AMPStorm I appreciate that Storm. I haven’t found the drive and passion to grind Infinite like I did every other halo. I’ve taken a back seat on competing, but I’ve recently started to play again. Here’s hoping I’ll find the fire to get back to a high level. Look forward to seeing ya!
This video is so amazing w the editing and commentary! Please keep these in video format and not in RU-vid Shorts! The best thing about this is that u can provide these little tad bits of information and make them into a cool minute video while also doing ur traditional longer format videos. Amazing all around!
I like the video, and I am always trying to improve my BR by left stick aiming, but even other pros aren't shooting like Formal lol, dude is on another level with his shots.
Yooooo if you strafe to “fade” mid-air, it lowers your profile? Ok then. 1:00 Also just love how aiming comes down to movement so much in Halo, man I love this game.
Basically, since br vertical recoil and a spread that follow your movements, stand still and follow your target while shooting instead of strafe like in other halos.
Awesome tips. Would you apply these same principles to a M&K user? I play M&K and it feels so hard to win duels. The strafe is so fast in this game I feel like I'm just guessing where to shoot when people strafe side to side so rapidly.
it applies in a similar way but m&k is fucked. watch these kills at .25 speed you'll see half of these kills where the reticle isn't centered on the head - kills we would never get with a mouse. also at 1:16 he's getting hit markers on a guy who isn't even in his reticle. the magnetism is so strong we don't stand a chance against good controller players.
Formal plays about as close to perfect fundamentals as it comes. Instead of trying to copy flashy pros every ladder player should be learning from this guy.
I feel like I’ve been working on this but still die waaaaay too often sometimes I’ll be on fire and hit 4 perfects in a game and go 31-28 but my problem is… that 28… I feel like if I could get that number down my kills would go waaaaayyyy higher
Is there ANY form of leading shots with this BR as compared to the Halo 3 BR? I just always feel like, granted there is basic aiming skill as far as tracking, that’s it- no finesse, lots of cross-map braindeading.
no. I would assume because there's an element of rng to projectiles like that which reduces skill gap in gunplay. trying to guess where and when somebody is strafing takes focus away from aiming. especially in this game where players can accelerate so fast even in strafing.
None of this matters if you can’t consistently play on low ping. This game is heavily connection based. Oftentimes I find my final head shots once shield is broken not registering correctly with the game. I’ll usually have pretty high damage and accuracy but cannot finish kills consistently or die leaving the enemy absolutely one shot. This is often because the game just isn’t as good as detecting hits sometimes. Also, the high ping during certain matches doesn’t help I’m sure.
I'm play w/ mouse and keyboard so this doesn't really help but now I see why people beat me easily on 1v1 shoot outs with the battle rifle online. I think mouse and keyboard should have at least an option for aim assist. Edit: You know what the strafing techniques works with mouse and keyboard as well
not aim assist. we need magnetism comparable to controllers. watch the kills in .25 speed you'll see a lot don't even have the head centered in reticle like we need. even worse watch 1:16 at .25 speed. he's getting hit markers as the guy is leaving window without even having his reticle on the target. we can't compete with this shit lol
Thank you for this video Shyway. Can you please make a video in regards to aim assist vs mouse and keyboard? It's wickedly unfair and it's sad to see mouse and keyboard players will never have a shot at competing because of aim assist being too strong. Thank you
Please help me Shyway, I don’t care if you have to break down a clip of my gameplay to tell me where my weak points are I just want to get even more cracked
as a m&k player, seeing the magnetism on controller aim is infuriating. it's impossible to win 1v1 br fights against a controller player at onyx. half of these kills, the reticle isn't centered on the head - which is fine but wouldn't net a kill with a mouse. also, at 1:16 if you slow the video down to .25 you'll see he's getting hit markers while his reticle is entirely off his target as theyre leaving window. same thing with the first stalker shot at 1:22. how am I supposed to compete using a mouse? aaaarrrrgh
Tbh while I do agree M&k is a different hurdle for sure (and not my expertise), I believe the fundamentals behind using your strafe to direct your aim in gunfights and help limit your mouse to tiny, decisive movements - could be a helpful process on m&k as well!
@@scout9936 yeah aim assist isn’t holding your hand movement is very quick in this game and micro adjustments are just impossible for m&k someone with a controller will always have a higher hit rating than you even if they are bad which just says everything.
@@scout9936 not with every weapon imo but with the BR, you definitely do. I think a single shot precision more like the stalker would suit the mnk playstyle better
this is another area where controller has advantage over mnk that no one talks about lol, you have a lot more control left-stick aiming than you do WASD aiming
Still the easiest BR in any Halo. For me it really just ruins the fun of the game when In ranked it’s just 8 people essentially running around with near power weapons.
I tend to agree. I enjoy the BR as a pick up, and that's why ranked drives me crazy. Getting mapped with such an easy to use gun. They should think about commando-starts to increase the skill gap. 🔫 💵
@@Shyway Genuine question, wouldn't that be easier to use than the current BR? No bullet spread to worry about makes me think that a 5 shot precision weapon, hit scan with say 1.4x zoom would allow more cross map. It would be fun in my opinion and I would love to see it, but doesn't strike me as increasingly skill gap, rather reducing randomness. One could argue that dealing with the bullet spread is a skill in of itself. I feel like this was the case in the original H2/H3, but could be remembering this with rose tinted glasses.
Does anyone else get days where it feels like the aim assist is either not working, or weaker? And then some days the game basically just aims for you?
Honestly I feel like I'm going insane. I get this across multiple games. H5, cod, apex and now infinite... At one point I believed Devs put in code to help keep struggling players interested in the game. In the end I've just accepted that the simplest explanation is that I'm not consistent enough.
Why is M&K even a thing? Did they anticipate the game to be played this way? Relying on aim assist to literally do everything? Is this skill or abusing a system that requires you to do nothing but mobility?
