Hi Guys, Excellent videos!! Question: Aren't you outside of the safe zone in the height/velocity diagram when air taxiing at 40ft. and 40 kts.? It wouldn't seem that you would have adequate airspeed and inertia to auto-rotate if the engine suddenly quit. Keep up the excellent work. What a great resource for aspiring heli students (like me!)
Thank you. Great question! Different flight schools will have different numbers. The 40' and 40 knots at this flight school is used to help the student learn the 40 foot flare height in an auto (quickstops are similar to the flare). But actual altitude and airspeed is a PIC choice and depends on wind, obstacles etc. Good numbers to use to be outside the shaded area of the HV curve in the R22 would be 25' and 45 knots. Speak to your flight instructor to see what they want you to use.
