This is probably the most straight forward and concise video on this I’ve seen yet, so thank you. I also feel better knowing that it isn’t necessarily me, comparing the classes I’ve had to what I saw in this video, my classes have been dogwater (three drafts, only seen one player from all 30 teams’ picks with potential higher than 92 that wasn’t a 50 OVR)

I disagree a little about scouting whole positions. It gives you a good broad amount of players scouted for those later rounds. And having to do it yourself by looking at their birthplace is kind of the point. It's not supposed to be as easy as it's been in previous years.
@drakkula_87

These are some great strategies…I’ve basically been doing all of the same except I still do 3 weeks of discovery and primarily focus on high school players as I’ve found that this is the best way to find those “generational” 99+ talents
@TheEru88
@TheEru88 Год назад
Hey man in interested to know cause I did some discovery and found some good guys high rank that were not rank by MLB so they drop. The first three weeks so you get high efficiency high discovery and do all three scouts for discovery? Then grab High efficiency, positional and pitching?
@JD-fl4dz
@JD-fl4dz Год назад
@@TheEru88 Yeah I've refined it over the past week to just using two of my high discovery high-efficiency scouts on finding new talent, the key for me has been focusing on international prospects as that talent pool seems the largest from all regions so you get that bang for your buck - I usually get around 5-7 new prospects on the books each week that way then I pick from the best of that crop - you're right to mention the MLB normally sleeps on the guys you discover so you can load up on great talent late since they seem to always slide

@@JD-fl4dz This is interesting. I buy this game every year but I never make it through a season so I just sim the draft and stuff but this year I want to try to make it through a few years and sim a bit. So I'm focusing in on the draft a lot more. There is a lot that goes into it that seems fun that I had no idea about.

I think discovery is better for those mid 70 overall players with C potential, which can be useful early on in a rebuild like the athletics in the middle rounds.

Still playing 23 and after wearing myself out on DD, and now I’m trying franchise for the first time. Thanks for the great vid! I’m finding it hard to sign all of the prospects I’m able to draft. I had drafted a great SP with the #2 pick as the Nats and then got another SP in the second round that my org scouted as the #4 overall pick. I wasn’t able to sign him even after offering the max bonus that I could with like 78% interest. I find it hard to balance scouting a variety of players vs finding your key guys around your draft position, building interest while scouting, and then praying they aren’t taken.

Usually International Pitcher is a good bet to scout 30-40 players minimum. Also the 18 year olds are volatile but there is the potential for them to be generational the way you scout essentially writes off that whole age group. Sometimes there are 81 99 players in the 18 year old section. The positional interest thing though complete life saver.
@JacobReid
@JacobReid Год назад
The issue I’ve had is I’ve yet to see a generational player. I’ve been through 10+ classes now and the best player I’ve seen was a 75A in the entire league. Typically with my method I’m the one grabbing those players too, and other teams pick up the scraps

This is a good strategy. I normally draft by plugging prospects into an formula: (potential - overall)/(29-age). If the number is a 4 or larger, I'm pretty much not drafting this player unless they are nearly a 70 overall. What this formula tells you is the average amount of overall you need your prospect to increase year to reach their potential number by age 29. By this age, I expect potential to be reached and the prospect to be near free agency. For example your last picks may look good on paper however they would have to increase around 4.5 overall every year to reach potential at 29. I also tend to shy away from prospects who can't hit or don't have good per 9 metrics as a pitcher. These players tend to struggle more with their development
@JohnM-sw4sc
@JohnM-sw4sc Год назад
How do you know their potential and overall tho with the possible ranges being so wide
@FiggyColaBru
@FiggyColaBru Год назад
@@JohnM-sw4sc I dont but the difference between the lowest potential - lowest overall and highest potential - highest overall is the same. So I use that number and assume that I when I draft the player, his actual Potential - Overall will be the same difference between the hi or low potential minus actual numbers. So if I draft a 22 yr old that is has a difference of 30 in potential - overall, I assume he has to increase by an average of 4.29 each year (30/(29-22)) to reach his potential. If they have not reached their potential by 29, I assume they will not continuously increase to make it unless they are really close. Basically I am trying to measure how much work has to be done to reach potential by age 29 if a draft a given prospect

I find scouting starting pitchers “international” and finding the next largest region for 2 weeks to start is a great way to get guys later in draft that are Not Rated on MLB prospect list, but can get as high as 50 on team scouting list. These players don’t need to be scouted more as that number doesn’t change much and they are available still in rounds 5 and 6 when the pickings are slim. Also can mean finding a guy the league ranks as a 3rd round type guy that can be a top ten pitcher for a solid second round pick.

I respectfully disagree on the discovery trait. I have found that is usually 1-2 generational talent hidden somewhere in the discovery mechanic. My strategy has been to have all 3 scouts on discover for the month of April. That way I have close to the full player pool the remaining months when I scout by position. Doing discovery piecemeal throughout the year is where players usually go wrong. If the are scouting an entire position and there are players still not discovered, those undiscovered players are not getting scouted at all. I’ve used this to pick up several 88-99 potential players. And the kicker is, since most of the other teams don’t do much discovery, you can draft these guys in later rounds giving you more room to draft the “known quantities” in the earlier rounds. Just my two cents. 😊

Overall potential isnt everything now. you also need to look at individual potential for stats. I've seen 90+ potential guys have sub 60 potential for each hitting stat and are busts.
@Nuschler22
@Nuschler22 Месяц назад
Discovery of pitchers international is invaluable. Usually get 10 or so and half are good. Scouting 40 international starting pitchers by positions and other areas of starting pitchers is also invaluable. Six weeks of 15 percent gets 40 players to 100 percent. Who wouldn't do that?
@JacobReid
@JacobReid Месяц назад
I don’t know, I’ve seen so many people comment about going so hard on pitchers. It just doesn’t seem necessary to me. I can get A potential 18 year olds across the board at positions I need. I could do the pitchers thing, but then you just have extra leg work because you have too many pitchers you need to move for other prospects. Then you get into a conversation about realism

Hey Jacob, A few draft questions...do you feel like the AI will pretty much stick to their rankings when drafting, or will they reach for players? Also, how do you feel about reaching for players? If you have a player that is rated 150th on the board but looks like an absolute monster, do you allow him to fall that far in the draft or will you reach for him. So players typically fall to somewhere around their projected ranking? How about NR?
@JacobReid
@JacobReid Год назад
The AI will reach for players based on their true talent. I haven’t seen many players fall, so I just take the best player I know about in any given scenario
@jprivera406
@jprivera406 Год назад
Also, I have realized that scouting not ranked prospects with high potential is broken. You can get playera with 88-99 potential like that and other teams don’t rank
@trevorsalzman6528
@trevorsalzman6528 Год назад
Other teams could have those players ranked within there system tho. I have had players taken in front of me that were not ranked by MLB but were top talents in the draft according to my scouts. It’s hit or miss but other teams will take your number 1 guy even if he isn’t ranked by MLB he could be ranked number 1 on their board to just depends. I hope this helps you.
@cialnorthall8796
@cialnorthall8796 9 месяцев назад

@brendonbuffaloe8830
@brendonbuffaloe8830 Год назад
THIS! I only played MyGM like 1 time, but I remember the progression and regression sliders being a thing. You could even adjust the ages a player’s prime would be between. My number 1 issue with MLB the Show is the exact opposite of Madden. In Madden, it’s fun to draft and develop players, but the gameplay sucks. In MLB, the players take 2-6 years to develop into true stars, and while the variance and bust potential are very realistic, they will only be their max overall for like 3-4 seasons before they start to regress. I personally wish you could make it so that players only regress in the offseason like Madden does even though the slow decline over the course of the season is more realistic. To me, MLB franchise just takes too long to get interesting if you’re doing a realistic rebuild unless you are a team with a big budget. Players do take a long time to develop in many cases, but they are good for 7-10 years sometimes as opposed to 2-3.
@Heat_Hoops_Basketball_League
I think drafting has became easier because now u don’t have to scout 200+ players and it was so t tedious now I literally didn’t scout anyone just took the highest ranked player and had two 90+ potential players

My opinion is that most 40 to 50 rated players are useless. I would rather have someone at 70 with C potential that can bump his potential then an A rated 45 to 50 player. By the time they are useful, they are making more money than they should and are subject to the Rule 5, and usually out of options. An 18 year old A prospect rated 50 might be 28 by the time he's 70 to 75 rated. They aren't guarneteed to make it to their potential, I don't believe. And he might be in his early 30s by the time he gets there.
