Rafiki is a supporting character in Disney's 1994 animated feature film, The Lion King. This is one of the best animated scenes in the movie where he
Kung Fu fights acting like Bruce Lee.
The Lion King is one of the best Disney movies in my advice,
We relate to the characters in a very strong and personal way. They’re instantly recognizable and relatable to a lot of people.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial as this action is amazing when viewed frame by frame.

The fact that that the stretch, twist and smear make the animation so fluid is the best, I always wonder how they're made the animations in TLK so smooth Awesome tutorial

This was far better than what they did for Mulan. You really can see in this clip how james baxter used references from shaw bothers kung fu movies and how Bruce Lee's moves inspired him, on the other hand, the Mulan crew didn't know anything about Kung Fu and made really poor fighting scenes. Thanks as always for this deep analysis of a iconic scene.

Hello Madjid, I am glad you like this animation! The scene is very inspiring, so much research and work! On Mulan the exploration was mostly about the visual style, they could have searched the culture and martial arts on a deeper level.

@@PixiGags Hello Pixi ! I feel they'd better study the chinese acting from the classical comedy kung fu movies to give the audience a sence of exotism. In Mulan, the acting is a bit to " on formula ". You can clearly see that the crew was american and, even if they did their best to respect the chinese culture, it was something too unfamiliar to them to suceed at giving convincing experience. Maybe they didn't had enough time to study another acting style or maybe the producers pushed for something more casual ? Because I love Liu Chia Liang movies, I felt quite disapointed when watching Mulan, not only for the acting, but for the message too : there was no subtlety in the way they depicted the women. Everything was like :" oh, of course, you're a woman so you can't do this, you can't do that " and so on... Unfortunately, it was the starting point of what disney is now doing : movies which look more of propaganda than stories. You can certainly add some positive messages within a film, book etc... but if your purpose is to force your beliefs into society, then you'd better write an essay instead of producing movies. The bad box office results Disney faces for some years are proof that the audience doesn't adhere to this vision anymore. Have a good day Master !

Hi Pixi-Gags! long time no see! 👋🏻 Ever since I’ve been interested in animation I find it funny sometimes when you watch a 2d animation movie then pause to see the smear or stretch frames of the animation 😂 but I find it smart how it makes the animation motion look smoother in flow 🧐

Very nice and informative tutorial. In my opinion, to make believable and at the same time breathtaking and tense fight scene is much harder in animated films with G or PG (PG-13) rating than in animated films for more mature audience (we're talking about most part of USA cartoons for kids), because censorship seriously limits animators and writers in showing blood and wounds. So the main focusing is on characters and their advantages and disadvantages, where their strong and weak sides, where it's better to defeat a villain, using either own sharp mind or his own weapon (magical weapon or simply own arrogance and power-hungry nature) against him/her, as well as the death of characters has strong emotional shade. On the opposite, very often animated films for adults simply show brutal killings for brutal killings, forgetting about tense, context, characters and etc I mentioned earlier. But for me it is really weird to not show blood. Blood and wounds make characters more real, hence the threat and danger toward them becomes more real, and we care about them even more. It doesn't mean that we have to show brutal killings in all details (although, as a kid I watched such type of animated movies and enjoyed them), just to not fear to show exactly blood and wounds. I mean, almost every kids had wounds on their knees, for example.

Hello Solira, that's a very interesting topic. Today it would be brave to show that type of imagery as the rules for distribution are very strict. Think that many movies and shorts ( like the old Warner Brother ones ) have been banned for having cigarettes, dynamite etc! Even Pepe le Pew ( the skunk ) has been removed for his suggested violation towards another gender. It was very different a few decades ago for some reasons, I guess because a broader age group watched animated movies back then.
@solirablack5934
@solirablack5934 10 месяцев назад
@@PixiGags Fair argument. From another side, I'd say it's also a problem of parents, who can not (or doesn't want) explain to their kids, why using dynamite and smoking cigarettes is a very bad idea for kid and a pretty risking choice for adult. I.e. instead of normal explanation they prefer to ban animated films and throw own responsibility on cartoons. I heard about the situation with Pepe le Pew. In my opinion, they should simply re-conceptualize this character, either making him a lady's man or making him a guy, who is ready to love a lady of every species, i.e. he has no prejustice or whatever. Maybe even some kind of a character arc. I.e. there's lots of ways, how to make this character relatable in modern iterations of Loony Tunes.

That "Nooo!" at the end was the best. Not sure that's what he was saying, but that's how I always heard it. Nice breakdown. Do you have any breakdowns of the characters getting hit yet? It looks like they spend multiple frames in a daze. Would be interesting to see a breakdown of the other side of the fight scene, the side that loses.
@PixiGags
@PixiGags 10 месяцев назад
Yes 101 this is a particular fight, the hits are very sudden with very little anticipation to mimic the Kung Fu fights in some of those cult movies. I a more natural fight the hits and reactions would be more noticeable. I will post some of those.
