In episode 10 of the #AskVinh Q&A series, I will be sharing my favourite tips when it comes to learning how to speak impromptu or on the spot. Most people can't do this, yet at any point in your life whether it's a conversation with your boss or being called upon in a special occasion, you will be asked to answer a question on the spot.
I'll also be covering how to respond in common challenges whilst in a presentation such as having technical difficulties and audience management.
Finally I'll be talking about how to interject into a conversation or interrupt someone who is an over-talker or doesn't let anyone speak.
This is by far my favourite episode released so far in this series because it's jam packed with value.
TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 - How to answer questions under pressure
3:42 - Dealing with unexpected challenges during a speech
6:40 - 3 ways to interrupt a never ending talker

I know you’re mucking around but for real (anyone who struggles with maths) watch the khan academy maths for your grade. Will learn more I. 20 minutes than you would from your maths teacher in a month.

You’re the first RU-vidr whose commercials convinced me to watch and subscribe. I like how you’re spitting real applications to use right away.

Maube thats a stupid request but can you make a video on how to speak on a date ? I know , I know 😂 but this is a context and we want to be charming , mesmerising , be prepared for a stupid questions like what’s most stupid thing you did (where we can laugh and have fun) but how about questions about past relationships or having children or some 5 year plan ? When you have to be more serious, it’s important topic and you have to stress out your opinion which might not be liked by the other side but be respectful and gentle but confident ?

Thanks for giving me the tools to deal with passionate unaware people that lack social skills !! 7:05 I’ve got a story that still pisses me off as I wish I knew how to deal with it. I was talking to a talent acquisition hirer and actual getting to know the person at a talk and was connecting with them as they were very interesting ! A guy butts in and asked the most surface level dumb question as if they were trying to perform and show off!! So that’s takes the hirer’s attention off me and the guy is tone deaf proceeds to sit down and crosses his leg as the hirer was standing and listening as politely as they could . I stared daggers into the guy, as I am in awe and pissed at how oblivious you can be . I now know how to intersect the guy and call them out for beginning disrespectful politely with this final piece of information. If a similar situation were to ever occur again I’ll be able to politely point out and defend the other party from an awfully awkward situation . Your advice overlaps with Chis Voss advice of the last impression is the lasting impression !

In the beginning of the hackeling story you were acting a 1-on-1 conversation with a support person. But I couldn't understand your narrative. What did you say? What was the advice?

Hi Vinh, I like your content and bought your STAGE Academy course but I have been trying to reach out to you or your team to get a refund. Shortly after buying it, I faced an upsetting family situation that went on for months and left me feeling depressed and unable to do things I planned to like your course. I have wanted to work on it this year, but I've realized I need to focus on more basic needs first such as finding an adequate income. What's more, over the past several weeks I have been experiencing dental problems that I think have been affecting my health. I'm not sure how it is in Australia, but here in Canada dental work is not covered by Medicare. I understand your 30-day rule about refunds but I am asking if you could make an exception given my circumstances as it would help me address these issues and hopefully be in a better position to repurchase and do your course later. I have been particularly worried that these dental problems are affecting my ability to pronounce and articulate sounds clearly. That of course would not be good for my communication, especially in the work I'm trying to do like creating easy-to-understand content for beginning English learners on this channel I'm commenting from. -Kristian
