You may think that creating long nails is hard, but… I beg to differ.
Now, I’m not saying long nails are easy either.
When you are creating long nails, you have a greater surface area to move through. You have more space to comfortably swing your brush across and literally a bigger vision of whatever you’re going to do as far as your final look.
And I’ve noticed that when doing nails, if you mess up at the cuticle area, or you happen to not be as meticulous there, because the rest of the nail is so long it distracts away from it… sometimes at least.
Either way, whether you think long nails or short nails are hard, we can definitely agree that both require technique... I continue this conversation in the video.

First of all, your hair looks gorgeous! Second, I really love the natural look of your apex placement/thickness. Would you consider doing a video on how to keep the thickness of a gel overlay natural looking even when you’re adding nail art that has lots of encapsulation? I love how my overlay looks but then after I add on nail art with many layers (like tortoiseshell or chrome that I have to put more structure gel over top), they look so bulky! But bc I need to file off the color I’m afraid of leaving the overlay too thin 😅

Paola this video was done with perfect timing! I literally did a search that showed me your video a mere hour after it was posted 😅 I’ve just started doing my own nails but I’m struggling with the apex/shape part. I loved your explanation of what length is considered a “short” nail and how the length impacts the apex. I think my issue is I’m not using enough product for the gel to self level which leaves me to do more of the shaping myself. I will try your technique next time. PS: love seeing a fellow Latina thriving! Wishing you continued success 🤗

Ahh.. I think I just had a light bulb moment here.. I've been using IBD hard gel and it's thicker viscosity is great for beginners needing to take their time, but it doesn't self level the way your gel does here. So it's harder to achieve that " created by gravity / self leveling " smoothness on the top. Thanks for this video!

Absolutely, there are different viscosities, and the thinner ones will create more move

Would you suggest doing an infill with the Leafgel Sculpting Gel or should I soak everything off and do a gel manicure from scratch?

Infill is a good choice 👍🏼 to maintain your natural nails.

id love to see this with a thicker viscosity gel because honestly it just looks like you are painting your nails and thats not helpful for learning the apex because its hard to see how you are actually doing it

Thank you for this feedback. For reference, Japanese gel is thinner, and this is the only type of gel I use. If you want more apex, you may be thinking about hard gel.

Try checking out Liz at The Nail Hub. She does overlays with different viscosities, including Luminary, which is a thicker viscosity. Check out her Gel Nail Fundamentals Playlist! Another great source of education, for gels other than Japanese soft gels that Poala specializes in. 😊
